Was a single teeing off this morning. Just behind a group of old folks. They let me play through on hole 3. Drove the green for the first time (white tees) lipped out a 6 footer on 17 that would have led me to break 90 for the first time.
Had 5 penalty shots. 3 back to back off a side hill lie way above my feet that went straight into the creek with my 5 wood on a par 5. I have no idea how to hit those shots. Airmailed a drive that veered right onto a busy street. Didn’t hit a car. chunked an iron into the drink on a par 3
Bought a LAB. Surely I will now make a ton of putts. I see PXG and now Odyssey jumping on the zero torque bandwagon. I’ll probably own the Jailbird version by the end of August
Lab is a putter brand that makes putters that essentially force the face to stay flat to keep more putts on line. Aka zero torque. The other two companies are making their own version A few pros who otherwise struggle with putting have gone to this but since pros are pros not many more will. But many amateurs feel that there are three things to think about with putting and this essentially eliminates one and turns it into only two things to think about (line and distance) and thus is helpful
Good stuff. Pretty good video explanation here. https://golfweek.usatoday.com/lists...e-odd-looking-clubs-help-you-hole-more-putts/
Anyone get Ryder Cup tickets yet? Dad is getting older bucket list So pulled the trigger on Citi presale lottery No idea what to expect but should be a shit show with an 18 hole continuous course and a bunch of Trumpers he’s excited and I’m in my feels and not looking forward to rah rah USA propaganda weird paradox of emotions
Round of my life last week. I hover in the 8-12 handicap range, currently an 11.5. Been stuck in a rut this year shooting 85ish like every time, hadn’t broken 80 in a while. Go out and shoot a 39-34(!!!) for a 1-over 73. Was wild. Didn’t really do anything spectacular. Played the same ball all round. No doubles. No penalties. Steady all day. What a fun game. Shot an 86 today like last week never happened. Ah well, still a fun game.
Yep. 28 putts when I’m usually more like 32. Made a few 10-15 footers. But honestly, just every part of my game was very solid. Never got into trouble. Putting numbers are good but largely because approach and short game gave me good looks.
it feels like the pros who have moved to LAB putters (Ben An, Zalatoris, etc) almost all use the long broomstick version. I know Mickelson has a standard DF3 now that he's gaming and I think I've seen Wesley Bryan using it too. I mentioned in here however many months back that I bought the DF2, my home course has very fast greens with a lot of slopes that can ruin you if you don't have the right pace. Plus I'm someone who has typically struggled inside 6 feet. Before I bought the DF2 I was primarily using the Scotty Phantom 5.5 and Newport 2 (with a brief flirtation with the counterbalanced Odyssey that Rickie Fowler used) with at least a couple 3-putts per round. on 5/29 I was a 5.9 handicap, I bought the LAB the next month and by 8/29 I was down to a 1.9. And i've been playing half as much golf in that span too with 0 practice time.
You dropped 4 full shots off your handicap in 3 months, without practice? How fucking terrible was your putting previously? Your ball striking has to be incredible if those 4 shots all came from a new putter
I was a total head case inside 10 feet, I wasn't good at all at cashing in on the prime birdie looks I'd get, plus I'd let at least 1 or 2 routine pars become bogeys as well. Rounds that probably should've been 74 or 75 would be 79 and 80. My iron play and especially my wedge play are the biggest strengths of my game by far. I had maybe a half dozen hour long simulator sessions in that time span but I've only been to the actual driving range once in the last 6 months and I never warm up before my rounds other than 15 mins on the putting green.
Played SageValley in SC this week. It was stunning and such a badass experience all around. Drinks, hanging out, 10 course meal with new wine pairing for each course while down in the wine cellar, then late night Par 3 course, then amazing breakfast and 18 gorgeous holes.
Absolutely get out there if you can. It was a pretty amazing experience all around. Eye-opening to see how the top % live and enjoy golf.
Is anyone watching this BMW Australian? The hole where they have truly awful music blaring with 50 people at best in attendance is something else
But Cam Smith told us he joined LIV because professional golf never does anything in Australia and LIV would and the fans are hyped for it.
