And the only player that I hope they let back with little fuss is Gooch. He seems like he just fucked it and knows it. The others knew what they were getting into
Talor fucked around and found out. He played LIV tournaments without a contract and thought they would say sure come back? Not a surprise he is a MAGA idiot
not likely, just given who they are hanging out with in their spare time. Koepka I could see now that he realizes his brother will be treated like garbage after all.
The only reason the players would want him back is the Fuck You it would send to LIV. Same with someone like Brooks. But I don’t think any of them actually care to play alongside those guys any longer.
I feel like several guys that are currently PGA Tour loyal have voiced that DJ is still a friend and the guy they miss the most
good stuff I’m a little skeptical of tour players being deep enough thinkers to be upset about the 911 protests.
What do you suggest? Honestly curious I’ll typically watch a featured group Thu/Fri, play Sat, and watch normal coverage Sunday for big events. Enjoy the more natural flow and seeing the whole course rather than the ADD check out this random shot or 40ft putt-fest in the first three rounds on regular coverage. By Sunday, they’ve usually managed to focus in on a story, because one has developed
Probably depends player to player. The one I’m hearing this through isn’t one of the younger guys that is connected to DJ in any way. He also mentioned the animosity really only started with the lawsuits. Before then, it was seen as guys simply making business decisions. But once the lawsuits started, it meant war.
less commercials, less of the “play through”. I’m with you, I tend to watch the featured groups until the last half of Sunday. maybe not realistic? Given the the money involved
Im with you there on both fronts. Playing Through is the worst thing that ever happened to coverage. “And just moments ago” is far superior to watching what should be a dramatic moment unfold with a Rolex commercial blasting over my speakers instead of contextual commentary and crowd noise
The whole economics of it are going to be very interesting to see play out. There’s going to need to be a ton more sponsorship to pay for these new events and higher payouts. On the other side of it, you’re going to ostracize the sponsors of the smaller events as the subset of better players that used to play in them now schedules around the bigger events instead. So the Tour may lose some of their smaller event sponsors as they try to figure it out. It’s a juggling act Monahan got himself into and needs to dig himself out of. The ideal for everyone is creating Masters-like sponsorships where you just have title sponsors handling the entire events with limited commercial interruption. But the PGA Tour is in a very different financial position than ANGC is. Jay is going to (finally) have to earn his keep here figuring it all out.
I mean playing through and commercials is how a lot of the bills are paid unfortunately no? It sucks but at some point PGA is going to have to find a lot more money or what we watch is only gonna get worse
The agents pushing taking the bag for their own benefit is the piece of this that isn't talked about enough. They aren't seen as the ones sports washing, but they are probably the biggest beneficiaries of this. The old dudes that left would have been taken care of by Champion's tour, pension, sponsorship, etc - but the crumbs left don't move the needle for agents. They want the bag up front from LIV.
Let everyone back except Reed, Bryson, Brooks, Poulter. Only way they are allowed back is if the four of them all live together in a duplex built in 90's suburbia and they work at a muni course doing shit work (cleaning bathrooms, shagging range balls, running the Tuesday night ladies league, etc) for a year. This will all be filmed as a show streaming on Golf Pass.
After thinking about this... If that is all that the FedEx Cup was ever advertised as, we would all be on board and say yes this is good. It was when they over-sensationalized it that everyone just cringed. Nobody understood it enough to give a shit. Not In a sport that you put majors on a pedestal.
Played with a guy yesterday who had: copper ping eye 2’s 2-p A 6* greatest big Bertha And rotated between a warbird and Tuttle putter. I had an erection for 18 holes.
Playing through is a failed experiment. It’s the worst. As for your bigger point, yeah true. But at some point Im going to stop watching. I care way more about my own game than I do about theirs. I’ll choose playing over getting sledgehammered by excessive marketing so people I don’t give a shit about can pocket a few extra mil with schemes developed by business analytic types any day
Your characterization of the 9/11 family organization is not only offensive but disgusting. I feel bad for whoever told you that at the club.
I'm home on Sunday afternoons, for the most part. I'm always going to watch golf in whatever form is being broadcast.
Team playing through benefits no one If something of consequence happens I'd rather see it on delay with the setting portrayed than half screen no sound no context.
The only way the PGA tour survives this is allowing LIV golfers back in to play their events. I don't see it happening for another year or two, but eventually that is what will have to happen.
The PGA your can't survive without Brooks, DJ, a couple of pretty good but not great golfers and a bunch of nobodies?
These PGA tour players should be kissing Phil's ass. Started a movement that is going to get them paid substantially more money. I always knew Phil was a man of his peers and the people, but damn. Sticking his neck out on the line for his fellow brothers and taking one for the team like this. Thank you, Phil!!
I guess, I still dont understand the money. So there are like 15 elevated tournaments that only the top guys will commit to work their schedule around and play. Then all the regular tournaments as well that will have a lot weaker fields, but their purses will stay the same or be higher as well? And this new TV deal can pay for all of it? Sponsors for these lesser events are going to pay the same amount or more even with a weaker field? We think TV ratings are going to stay the same for these lesser events with weaker fields too? Also, lol at LIV/PGL not being the catalyst for all this change. Jay and the boys wouldve ramped up purse money even more with the new TV deal, but not changed a damn thing other than that.
Yeah the sponsors of the “mid major” events are going to be interesting. Events like the Wells Fargo, Schwab are the sponsors going to stick around if their event looks more like the John Deere?
I’ve heard Varner is the guy still up in the air. He’s leaning PGA Tour, but everyone around him is pushing LIV hard. This is where someone like Cantlay or Xander going makes it easy for some lesser guys to also bite the bullet and leave. The Tour is full of cliques, and if the head of the clique goes, others from said clique may also go too.
Anyone know of any free apps or websites to set handicaps and manage a golf league? My department at work is starting a small one, just like 8 or 10 of us playing 9 holes once a week so we aren't going to be able to pay for one which seems to be all I've found online so far.
