I think the only other option is the next manliest thing you can do; tell the GM, head pro, and anyone else you know about how much of a disrespectful asshole the guy was. I’d absolutely mention it to our GM, especially if you have designated smoking/non-smoking areas
I’m thinking of planning a golf trip to Scottsdale over the summer. Anyone ever put a trip together in that area or know the best way to book it?
I emailed him tonight, and he already emailed back. Its one of like 6 outside tables. I’ve seen people smoking there before. There aren’t any signs anywhere, but it is known as the smoker’s table. That doesn’t even matter here. I was sitting there...with my family. But if they want to make it a smoking only area, whatever. Just put signs up.
Seems like the guy over reacted for sure. But club probably to blame as well if there's a weird gray area between smoking and dining tables.
If the guy had come over and even politely asked us to move, I would have considered it. He wanted a confrontation and he got it. If he’s not punished I’ll take my equity elsewhere.
That’s also fair. But it was beyond overreaction. To sit down at our table, without asking, ready to light up a cigar...grounds for suspension or termination.
How big is the table? If a stranger sat down at the type of table I am picturing, regardless of cigar, I would have gone hulk during a pandemic.
I'd guess maybe half the regulars itt have. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of booking a trip down there. Book your flight, find a good Airbnb then figure out which courses you want to play and book the tee times. The amount of quality courses in the PHX metro area is absurd so it's hard to go wrong. Everyone has their favorite(s)...mine is Quintero of the ones I've played. Edit: also summer is their "off season" so be prepared for stupid hot desert temps.
Old guy trying to take something that doesn’t belong to him bc he feels entitled to it. Stop me if you’ve heard this before.
You made the right call. I am a hot head when it comes to personal space especially during covid. It’s not a good trait, I’m not trying to be a badass.
tigr2ndbase missed your post about Scottsdale earlier. Like was just said, during the summer is off season but you can play the best courses for a huge discount. I’ve played at Troon North and it’s great; I was out there for the WM Open and we paid a steep premium but the summer it’s very cheap. They, along with several other places, have 36 hole specials where you can get an additional discount if you play both of their courses. Pretty sure Troon North and We-Ko-Pa (sp?) are the best options for this. Also, Talking Stick was decent for the price (way cheaper than the others)
God damnit I'm relying on the golf channel replay to watch and the snow is fucking up my DirecTV reception.
Thanks. I used to go to Scottsdale all the time for work but only got the chance to play golf once while I was there. I would stay at the fairmont right on TPC so played it once. Looking forward to taking a trip to play a few of the courses there.
I've got Quintero, We-ko-pa, Talking Stick, and Whisper Rock on the books for next week. Staying at an aribnb in Old Town. Will let you know how the courses are.
A member at my club is in the Thunderbirds and has been the 16th hope marshal since the late 90’s. He’s a member at Whisper Rock and is very open to any of us coming down to play out there. I really need to make that trip happen so would love to hear what you think.
UPDATE: there is video of the incident. They are forwarding to the board for punishment. They comped my dinner (LOL).
I guess I did not know that when I had gone to find anyone on staff to help, the guy stood up as my family was leaving for another table to confront my father in law. The GM mentioned this after he watched the video.
FIL should have fucked him up. No law against an old dude putting a beating on another old dude if they step out of line.
Assuming it's Texas, I'm relieved it didn't end with cigar guy pulling out a firearm. He sounds like a complete whackjob.
10k fans per day at Kiawah, selecting based on type of ticket and when purchased. Think I have a decent shot at keeping mine.
Yea I did the presale and bought mine pretty early on...plus I have Thursday, so hopeful I can keep them. Will actually be pretty nice to only have 10k fans at a major tbh.
It’s a private resort island with a one lane road going in and out of a main security gate. There also happens to be a second security gate on the island before you reach the Ocean Course. Additionally, the roads directly leading to the island from Charleston (or elsewhere) are mostly single lane roads. It’s about 45-50 minutes away from a major highway. So yeah, I love Kiawah but it’s a logistical nightmare for moving a bunch of people onto and off of. I imagine they’ll have to ferry people from off-site shuttles, and those shuttles could be 45+ minute drives.
