For those that have been to the Master's before, would you fuck with flying into any airports that week near there or would you just drive the 8.5hrs from cincy to augusta?
Savannah and Columbia may be cheaper. Not much further of a drive. When I went, flights to Savannah were half as much as Atlanta, and it's an extra 20 min driving.
columbia is actually a shorter drive, i'm keeping my options open. my dad and brother are flying into ATL, so prob makes sense to just fly into there though and get a rental car together. hell, maybe we will just stay in columbia and drive over. fuck $400 a night for a hotel in augusta. it's only an hour and a half drive to augusta from there right?
When I go for the weekend I usually get a cheap hotel between Augusta and Atlanta for Friday night, then suck it up and stay in Augusta Saturday night. You can find hotels for 80ish in Covington or Conyers and you only have a 1.5 hour drive over.
Used the app golf sight to measure two drives yesterday that I got on the screws and everyone in my group agreed that I bombed it. One was with the wind and one was neutral wind. Both 275 on the dot. It's a little humbling but the numbers don't lie.
That's my home. I've mowed every blade of grass on the course. But I hit it well today and left several out there
I have 18 birdies, but I track my score with my scorecard and score/distance with My garmin watch. Hard to run 3 aps.
I've never tracked score with anything. My phone stays in my bag while playing. I won't use it during rounds but will put in my rounds afterward
GolfLogix is 100% part of my shot process now. It's accurate and it takes any course management questions out of my head pre shot. Sometimes I don't like having my phone in my hands all round but but I like the app too much to put it away.
I only use a laser if I have a scoring club in my hands and even then I don't play the stick. The front and back of the green yardages are way more helpful for someone that plays at my level.
Columbia is the easiest if you actually can get a cheap flight into there. Its like 50 miles from Augusta, all interstate. Savannah/Hilton Head if you get a good price is solid, but its not a direct drive on interstate. Atlanta is the easiest, most hotel and rental car options.
Is 18birdies better than The Grint? I've been using that to track my score/GPS this year. Guess I could re-enter my rounds into 18birdies to not lose my stats
All you guys who are saying that you want something to keep track of your rounds need to register for a GHIN. Not only will it do the basics of keeping track of your scores but it's actually useful when you have a buddy who asks you to play in a member-guest sometime. In almost every member-guest you have to have a GHIN.
I use USHandicap. It's $30 per year. It doesn't give me a GHIN but it does give me a USGA handicap index. It uses Golfnet system instead of GHIN which is still USGA compliant. Can I get a GHIN without being a member of a club? Is it better to have a GHIN than a Golfnet index? https://www.ushandicap.com//usgahandicap.asp
Just looked around and I think I should join the Texas Golf Association to get a GHIN number. My handicap is still compliant but GHIN seems more widely used. http://www.txga.org/JoinTGAGolfers.html
Thank you for this. Took it to the course with me this morning and shot the round off my life, 78! Clubed up on all my approaches and found myself 2 putting for par so many times. Even par on the back 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
Its crazy right? I think it mentally helps you put a better swing on the ball for some reason too. Hitting one chunky and watching the ball land on the front edge of the green is a real confidence builder.
I did something similar last summer, although for different reasons, and it has really improved my game. I hammered it into my mind to think I can hit things 5 yards shorter than I can. (ie. Really hit an 8 150, but now think of it as the 145 max club). It has let me swing much easier on all approach shots and I have been hitting more greens. Sadly, my putting has been abysmal this year. Played 4 rounds in the past month. 81-79-79-82 with atleast 5 three putts each round. It didn't help going from bent grass in Nashville to Bermuda and slow in Sea Island. Back to bent and fast as shit in Nashville. Could never get a grasp of the speeds
Im still a horrible lag putter. Im definitely ready to break through the 80 barrier if it weren't for the three jacks. Im especially bad at uphill putts on slow greens. I just cant mentally make myself whack it hard enough, then I get pissed and smoke one by the hole.
I know this all too well. Some of it probably stems from people telling me not to hit it with my purse that time. Then I end up blowing one 15 feet by
Just about any golf course should be able to get you a GHIN number. I got my from the closest course to me that I rarely play.
I was going to tell him to aim for the back of the green since analytics show most people leave their first putt short.
I got rid of my Scotty Cameron Studio 1 I've been using for 15 years and got a 2 ball and it has helped tremendously.
ColeTrickle the initiation fee is about to go up at Lost Creek. Pretty easy way to get a ghin hcp iyam.
I had a little loop at the top of my swing last fall that was causing me to come in too steep and over the top. My miss was a bad hosel rocket that was brutal on me mentally. My take away was great and the club was inside where it needed to be but my transition to the downswing was out of whack. My guy I see had me shorten my back swing anf that's all it took. Lost about a club and a half on my irons but gained a lot of accuracy. Ended up basically losing two clubs since I decided to play everything shorter too. 150 is 8i now where before my pw was 145. Just shot back to back 81's after having a 25 handicap 2 summers ago. Confidence level is maxed out right now.
I just read a deal that says hitting the ball on the sweet spot of the club is worth 12mph in club head speed. Thats a lot. In the beginning I was swinging too easy at it. I wanted a swing like Ernie Els. After playing for a while, I started going much harder at it and my striking improved for sure. Then I started having joint problems in my left ring finger and right shoulder (was clearly overgripping and over swinging). I was forced to shorten my swing but I was still compressing the ball and my distance stayed the same. I was getting the sweet spot more consistently. Thats what gave me the confidence to move from GI to a players cavity.
If you spent half as much time swinging clubs as you do reading every golf instructional under the sun you'd be scratch. (I say this with love)
