Anyone here been to the waste management open before? Booked a flight out there and will be crashing at an Airbnb with some buddies. Looking for any tips/tricks/recs. I went to Scottsdale last year, so don’t really need recs on stuff outside of the tournament.
We got to the tournament first thing Thursday last year and it was great for a few hours. Sat in the stands at 16 for the first few groups that came through and it’s way less crowded. Those bleachers aren’t worth it later in the day, there is a long line and it’s just a disaster up there; we went to the bleachers to end the day Friday around 5 or so and the port-a-potties were overflowing and the whole thing rank of stale beer. We bought bracelets to get into certain tents on Thursday for something like $80 and it included food and drink. That was well worth it compared to not having them Friday. Lastly, getting an Uber home at the end of the day is a nightmare. We left when a lot of people did and It was like a taxi line for Uber that was over an hour wait. We ended up walking a good ways away from there until we could finally get picked up
I'll be there for a bachelor party! This will be my 2nd time going. Should be a blast. Where did you purchase the bracelets for the tents?
They're called Member's Club tents. You have to buy the bracelets for the whole day, so people sell them on StubHub and that's where we got them. We bought them well in advance, looks like the cheapest for Thursday now is over $150. The food that was served was just ok but for all the snacks/water/alcohol we got they were well over over $100. DuffandMuff a couple more thoughts. There was a MC tent on top of a hill that sits above 6 green, 7 tee, and 12 tee. We hung around this area quite a bit, even on Friday when we didn't have the bracelets because there's a regular concession near there too. Lots of viewing angles. There's a "craft beer" tent area down 7 that has a lot of options but you really can't watch anything from there. However, back behind this area is 5 green/6 tee then further back is 13 green/14 tee. These areas stayed pretty empty as there's not much else out there so you could get close. Another similar spot is between 1 green/2 tee, we would just move back and forth and were basically standing on 2 tee for some pretty good groups. The last area we spent a lot of time was up by 17 green. JT blocked one out to the right over our heads so you either want to be far enough up by the green or a little down the fairway to stay out of the landing zone.
Great information. Thanks. I'm hoping to head out to the Farmers either next Saturday or Sunday, so hopefully I get my golf watching in then. I don't think much of the group I'm going to the WM with cares if they see any golf. They really just want to party.
Members Club tickets tend to be the cheapest for the tent tickets. Another solid one is Greenskeeper, which is to the left of the players on 18. The other ones like Bay Club are too expensive and pretentious for my taste. I agree with tjosu - if you want to go to 16, go early and avoid it later in the day. It’s a pretty seamless experience getting in and out of the course and the tournament committee does a great job with the event.
Went for a bachelor party. Went Saturday, extremely hungover. The people watching is better than the golf. The uh, scenery, is worth the price of admission. So much scenery. The Thunderbirds thing at night with concerts was decent. Old Town Scottsdale at night is a total shit show but fun at least once. If it’s a group of guys, you are going to have to buy a table or VIP to get in the best spots without waiting an hour in line. we rented a compound for 20+ guys, two weeks before the trip we find out the dude who owns it is in jail on money laundering and child porn charges. House has been seized. Somehow scrambled and got two adjacent condos walking distance from the tournament but at least 6 people slept on floors. It was not ideal.
The best advice is to befriend a member of the Thunderbirds that then has the authority to take you anywhere at the WMO for free. Top level of the grandstands on 16 with unlimited everything was a good Saturday!
There’s seven of us so far. Apparently there were plenty of Airbnb’s to choose from. Got a couple guys driving in from LA with all the party and performance enhancers. I partied in old town in the middle of summer last year and it was crazy. Can’t imagine what it’s like WM weekend. I’m expecting an overcrowded shit show.
I hate all those bars in the Entertainment District - there are plenty of other good spots in Old Town that won’t be as mobbed.
I've lost count of the number of times PGA Tour Live has mentioned that Max Homa is very active on social media. Find a new angle guys
Anyone been itching to tryout those Arccos golf sensors? I got my free trial ones back when that Ping promo started but don’t want them. Just pay for shipping and we’re good
After deciding this year would be my first without buying new clubs I ended up with a new driver, putter, and all new wedges
Pretty interesting video. I would be willing to bet that outcome would be similar for a lot of younger Americans as well
I agree, it's just funny that you get a tour promoting players by showing them looking like hacks when they don't have their hot drivers. They probably felt like they had to keep up with the PGA promoting backstopping today.
Basically being willing to try anything new or different. In this case, making videos that make their players look bad, granted they very likely had some financial incentive from Callaway to do it. All the 14 club challenge videos are great. They have also been more open to alternative formats of play beyond 72 hole stroke play
Players and most courses on the pga tour are better. The actual tour management on the euro tour is light years ahead
