It’s 40° and I’m about to go play. It also rained all day and night yesterday so I’m sure the course is soaked. I’m an idiot.
Best time to play. If you have the gear, cold and wet is my favorite as it keeps people away. Surfing, backpacking, golf, hell almost everything is better with less people around.
I play in a league on Sundays. $10 points buy in an $10 skins. Only 4 people here today because of the weather so a really small pot. Normally 15-20 guys here.
thats what I like about playing when it gets 100+. There will be like one or two other assholes like me on the course.
I'm generally out on cart path only unless I'm intending to walk. Only walk one of the courses I play.
I'm a runner so I actually enjoy running back and forth. I know I look like an idiot but it keeps me loose. Had one of the best days ever on a course earlier this winter. Cold and breezy but I literally had it to myself. Had Sturgill playing as loud as I wanted and all kinds of warm accessories.
I guess but I enjoyed NLU - Scotland and EAL's travel stuff better than Ginella. All his stuff felt overly sponsor produced. I haven't seen his golf advisor show and maybe that's better.
Yeah he basically started that entire profession of getting paid to review golf destinations. Really awesome gig, albeit with a ton of travel involved so probably tough once you start a family like he has.
Getting more into following golf tournaments since it's super important for my girlfriend's family. Random q - who would you say are the five most liked guys on the tour (e.g. who everyone wants to see win) and five most disliked guys (nobody wants to see win)?
but for real, most liked is tough because even the most popular guys like Tiger and Phil have people who absolutely hate their guts. Plus golfers are so bland that one bad decision can be enough sometimes for people to totally turn on you (i.e. Kuchar stiffing the caddie or JT having the fan ejected)
I think this is correct. I feel like Rory has plenty of haters or at least people who don't really cheer for him although I like him. I'd say Adam Scott has a better percentage of likers vs haters so he's the only one I think I'd change on your list.
Also Bubba is pretty polarizing because I think he's generally liked and has a lot of fans but those people are super casual fans that only watch the Masters or maybe just the majors. Whereas he's definitely not liked by the vast majority of "hardcore" golf fans that consume the tour in lots of ways.
I want to know more about why we dislike certain people. Is it because they are known jerks or did something to deserve it? Just known as being crappy guys? It's probably an easy sport to root again people since you have a ~99% chance that person doesn't win.
Patrick Reed - habitual cheater and total asshole Bubba Watson - asshole phony who hides behind religion when anybody calls him on it Bryson Dechambeau - arrogant douchebag who thinks he's discovered all the answers to golf Ian Poulter - arrogant but mostly disliked due to USA! USA! reasons from the Ryder Cup Sergio Garcia - still throws temper tantrums like a fucking child and then claims he's a new man, rinse and repeat
If you're asking these questions because you don't want to be viewed as a douche because you like the wrong player or you want to be able to watch golf with your gf's family then just make sure you're disgusted when either Patrick Reed or Poulter are shown. Also, below is a short breakdown of some of the current up and coming younger players to act like you're familiar with so you can impress them. Xander Schauffele - He's currently ranked 9th in the world so not really "up and coming" but he still isn't a household name yet. He's young and just a damn good all around player. Sungjae Im - Was a rookie last year. Played damn good in President's Cup a couple months ago. Will likely win a good number of tour events in his career. Cameron Champ - Drives the ball WAY further than anyone on tour so that's all most people talk about with him. He has already won on tour even though he's just in his second year. Will see on commercials and promos for years to come because he's half black, young, hits it far, and has a catchy name. Matthew Wolff, Colin Morikawa, and Victor Hovland - They're the next overall superstars. Think of them as the next Spieth, Fowler, JT. Wolff has the craziest looking swing that a high level PGA Tour player has ever had. That's a good start for you.
CTownND just be aware you’re taking advice from the poster currently in 3rd to last place in the fantasy league
Reed - has a long history going back to college of no one liking him. Very punchable face. Caught cheating, and suspected of several instances of cheating. Bryson - thinks he's smarter than everyone, but is full of shit. Says asinine things like he's the best only one to figure out how shafts work. Real scientists have called out his bullshit. Posterboy for slow play. TBC
Poulter - asshole Brit. Often plays over his head and kills us in the Ryder Cup. I actually don't mind him. Sergio - whiny bitch, racist, pouts all the time, damaged the course on a few occasions when he wasn't playing well
Definitely my favorite golfer. Started at the Ryder cup. I remember he was out for the morning and was just walking with the fans watching. He was across the creek from the green. He found a walking stick and was just banging out a cigar.
To stay up to date with what's going I like the Shotgun Start podcast. It's three times a week (m, w, f) and covers all of the current events. (Results, news, etc) I like No Laying Up too but Shotgun takes themselves less seriously and keeps it simpler. Both are funny and entertaining.
Lol please. Dude...there's been 3 tourneys this year and ALL of last year you finished dead last. Gtfo
Phil chasing bombs is the exact opposite of what he should be doing. Blasting it all over the course has negated his biggest strength of his approach game.
