Was on the FlightScope today to try to zero in my distances. Below is a (good) 5 shot average of carry D 242 (rpm: 3,000 but height only 75, pga pro thinks my driver is shit) 3W 221 3h 215 4h 196 5h 179 6 168 7 159 8 147 9 131 PW 122 SW 101 LW 73 Big takeaways for me: 1, still shorter off the tee than I'd like to be 2, need to get a gap wedge 3, hitting a full lob wedge is weird
Thats really encouraging to hear. Its super weird that I haven't gotten a new driver. I've had it for about 10 years, its a POS, and I've never hit it particularly well, and I'm not adverse to spending the money. Its almost like I am slut shaming myself into not getting a new driver until I hit this club better. I started working with a new pro who said hes going to fit me for a driver next time I'm out. Looking forward to it.
My smash avg on the 5 ones i counted was 1.19 for 9. My 8 and PW respectively were 1.24 and 1.25. So maybe just not the best contact? I didn't notice that at first but you are right that's a little bigger gap than it should be.
I believe on the earnings call they also said California as well. Not Sure if anyone else got a sleeve but titleist sent a bunch of test sleeves out and I got sent one. The earnings call yesterday they said they’re looking to release new versions of their velocity and NXT tour balls so I’m thinking it’s a sleeve of the latter.
You'll pick up good distance with a new driver. It just doesn't fit you at all. Looking for 12-13 launch and spin around 2500 or lower.
You don't have to post but I would also look at launch angle and spin on your irons. Not exact but good rule of thumb is you want to launch it at half of the clubs loft (48 degree wedge, launch at 24) and you want to spin # to match the club you are hitting, for instance 7 iron spins around 7000.
Its unreal the distance/control gains you get when you're properly fitted for clubs. That started a real resurgence in my interest in the game. I've hit a wall with my short game though. The only thing thats going to make me break through the 8-9 hcp range is cleaning that stuff up significantly. Gonna have to get lessons but Im not totally sure what direction I want to go. I almost never get up and down.
My last hour lesson was all spent pitching the ball around a practice hole. Short sided, bump and runs, pitch shots with longer clubs, etc, etc. Shots I didn't have in my arsenal before. Helped a lot. Now if I could just putt.
I need everything from 120 yds and in. I'd like a more controlled/lower ball flight with approach wedges. Im pretty bad around the greens, and my lag putting is below average. I've never had any help with any of that, so hopefully Ive got a lot of potential for improvement there. Ive heard Tom Watson's book is really good, but I want to get with a pro first.
It isn't glamorous, but you need to keep the ball low to the ground with the shortest swing possible. That may mean putt from off the green, generally it will be bump and runs with a 7-8-9 iron. Technique for the bump and run.... grip down so that thumb is at the bottom of the grip, feet close together (makes you less powerful), weight 60/40 on the left side (assuming right handed). From there just use your putting stroke with the butt of the grip remaining between your forearms for the entire shot. Length of swing controls the distance the ball goes. Even if you hit it thin it won't go screaming by because your length of swing is controlled.
Yea Im all for it. I putt from off the green all the time (probably too much.) i just haven't used that shot bc Ive never practiced it, mostly bc I don't really know what Im trying to do technique wise.
I would always recommend a lesson, but I think the bump and run is a good starting point. If you can hit that shot you can build off it with bigger swings and more loft.
Doing a mini Ryder cup this weekend with some buds 2v2 Playing 36 holes tomorrow near Greenville SC (Bonnie Brae in AM playing Best Ball, Legacy Pines in PM playing Alternate Shot) Clemson vs Fl St on Saturday 18 holes on Sunday before flying home (Southern Oaks playing singles match play) Going to be a good weekend.
That’s pretty unusual. I’ve played without a glove before and I can tell a difference for sure. Of course if your grips are good to go and you don’t have any issues, i don’t think it’s gonna make you play worse.
yeah, at some point in time I just stopped wearing a glove but would always wear a blister on my left index finger if I wasn't playing often enough. now I just tape it every time and call it good.
Biggest thing for me is glove off after every shot and I always have an extra that I rotate with when they get too sweaty. Definitely no glove around/on the green
I rarely notice someone taking their glove off for a chip beside the green. In fact I cant think of anyone Ive played with in our Saturday morning money game doing this. Doesn't mean anything, in fact it actually makes sense to have your glove off for shots around the green. Then again, Im pretty sure pros leave their gloves on around the greens for the most part. But they're also playing with the leather equivalent of an ultra thin condom on their hand so I don't think that counts.
I’ve never experienced this. I take mine off after every shot but my gloves just don’t get that sweaty I guess
Thought I ruined my gap wedge today and was pretty pissed at first. Had a ball go just inside a hazard line but it was sitting up nicely on some thick looking grass so I figured I could advance it pretty well. As soon as I made contact I let go of the club because apparently the ball was sitting on grass that was covering up some good sized rocks. Scuffed up the leading edge a bit but overall it's not in too terrible of shape. May just go ahead and convince myself it's time for new irons like I've been wanting
Do you have some sort of connection that you've been holding out on disclosing? You're the one that's been gallivanting to Bandon and Florida and SoCal so I assume you can set it up
I just might put out then. I also could possibly get us on at The Patriot but not sure how likely that would be. Forest Ridge would be a good fall back, it's just a little further out in Broken Arrow. I also still have a Bourbon Maple Even More Jesus with your name on it
