Name another golfer to make 11 birdies in a round at Augusta. Kim wasn't always consistent but he was extremely explosive and had a knack for going real low
Larry Mize might be your paradigm given its the Masters and that storyline. But 100 wins is a ton. Thats like Westwood, Kuchar, Donald, Casey, and Stricker combined. Im not trading that for a Rich Beem.
It’s 18 more than 2nd place. It’s a huge number. And in today’s world $100 million in just those events. Not counting sponsor money or events you didn’t win. I could see an argument at 1 major being better than x number of wins but x is far less than 100
Jack is the benchmark for most accomplished but Tiger was easily the most talented player to play. In their prime (regardless of equipment), Tiger takes Jack's money 7/8 out of 10 times.
omg he had a good round. Cant wait to listen to him talk about himself on NBC for the next 40 years. I already complemented his 2008 season. But, a shit ton of people can go low.
I just wanted to give Johnny Miller shit. It was obviously a good round. Also, I was sort of belittling Walker when I mentioned him at first. Although I would argue he is pretty underrated - pre-lyme disease, anyway.
Completely understand why you brought up Walker. He’s nothing spectacular, but still better than Kim was. This isn’t your fault
Hitting out of a chute? Horrible design, blah blah blah /that poster who complained about 18 at Augusta.
Since yesterday went so well and a little entertainment is always fun. Pick 1 golfer for each part of the game at their prime and you can only use a golfer one time Driving - Rory Long irons - Tiger Mid irons - Spieth Wedges - Phil Putting - Faxon
It’s a lot more fun from the whites, where you can try to sling a draw around the corner (in front of the trap), execute it perfectly, and still make 7 with a short iron. Not that I’ve done that recently or anything.
His feast/famine short iron game was perfectly displayed at Merion. Hole out for eagle from the rough to get himself back into the tournament. Miss green on 105 yard par 3 to basically choke it away.
In other news, got to stay and play at Olympia Fields this past weekend. That place is a treat. It has the old school US Open-type club vibe, but with injected new blood because the South Side of Chicago has hit tough times. They have a train stop 50 yards from the first tee, so they’re attracting a ton of young members that live in Chicago. North Course reminded me a bit of WF West, though a bit more cookie cutter off the tee and much calmer green complexes. South Course was a ton of fun with a handful of absolutely fantastic holes. Just a really cool vibe to the place though. Convertible carts with music blaring, strip club owned by member two blocks away, etc. It was a fun mix of Winged Foot and Bushwood.
Driving - Jimmy Walker Long irons - Tiger Mid irons - Rory Wedges - Dufner Putting - Spieth Spoiler Give me DJ with the driver
Driving - Norman Long irons - Tiger Mid irons - Furyk (not sure who to pick) Wedges - Seve Putting - Crenshaw
Eddie, why'd you shoot Jimmy Walker in his lips? I like Good Times! You took a shot in your lips and you look like Jimmy Walker.... Oh, that'll do it.
I would try to find a spot for Stricker for either the putter or short irons/wedges. Plus if you use Tiger for long irons he could be his Tiger's putting coach in this scramble situation.
Other than the two trees off the tee (which only come into play from the backs), it’s a fairly open hole. You just need to hit a ball that starts pretty straight off the tee from the blacks to make it work.
And you're not completely dead if you don't hit the fairway (although I'm not sure what the rough situation is like there)
With the rough and that green complex, you’re staring at bogey from the rough. But it’s also not insurmountable to make par. Really depends on conditions and the golfer. Regardless, 18 at Augusta is much more of a chute. Sad news, Phil’s tree on that hole from the 2006 Open came down in Hurricane Sandy.
Holly is overrated IMO. Put the ball in the front bunker, easy wedge into the middle slope, funnels down to the hole.
Web event is at a course I’ve played a million times in Nashville. Really looking forward to seeing it this weekend.
