Blows my mind some of the stories Ive heard about guys being dickheads to their pro. Some people are so awful they even act like dicks at the golf course.
Without reading the article I am just going to assume Steve Elkington was arrested for this since he's in the video at the top.
Yeah, our club pro is great about getting us onto pretty exclusive places. In turn, he is really welcoming to guests from other clubs. It's a big part of being a good/reputable club pro.
This is all news to me but awesome. I haven't been a member at a club since my mid teens, but when I can settle down for a few years I am definitely looking to join one.
Spieth just putted it off the green. Might be the worst putt Ive ever seen him hit. Said it in here before, but that dude's brain isnt working right on the greens.
Adam Scott just had to step off his approach bc Jerry buzzed the course in his helicopter. You cant make this shit up.
Shot an 80 the other day on a shitty farm course (par 71). Had an 8 on a par 5 and 2 other doubles on par 4's. No birdies all day, the rest of the score card was filled with pars and 1 boggy. Missed 2, 4 footers on the day for birdie and boggy. My mid irons were solid and my chipping and lag putting were great. Driver was average and my short putting was dog shit. Made it a goal this year to break 80 again. I shot 79 twice, when I was 21 back in the early 2000's. In the past couple weeks, I've shot an 86, 82, 89 and now an 80. Playing this morning, Lets Go 70's!
Not sure what he said, but it's expected, especially from American pros (Jordan is a notable exception). Adam Scott said something along the lines of "guys don't like what makes them uncomfortable or what seems unfamiliar, but that is how we should be tested." I kinda hope Leishman wins because Australian and European guys can appreciate the place for what it is. For example, how much cooler was McDowell's shot on 17 using that backstop to get close to the hole and get up and down for par compared to wedging something close and stopping it on a dime? It's way more exciting to watch that kind of creative golf. I do wish they would dry it out a bit, but the Tour can't help themselves. They want the players to be "comfortable".
Something along the lines of "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." It wasn't as severe as JY made it sound. He doesn't like the course, but in no way did he sound like a "bleeding vag"
One article I saw had Kuchar saying that he just really liked the old spot. I am sure all these pros have their favorite tracks that just fit their eye and they play well at regardless of their current form. Seeing one of those fall of the calendar probably sucks for selfish reasons.
He was caught on mic bitching about it multiple times during his round which is why they asked him about it. Hitting his shot and turning to his caddie and loudly saying did o tell you how much I hate this course? On another hole he whined about how “this course just doesn’t let you lay up” bc he misplaced his wedge approach onto the side slope of the green and it ran off. That’s why the media asked him about it. Was pretty off putting when it’s not like the course was in bad shape or anything. You don’t like the layout? Don’t schedule that week.
As a guy who hadn’t been to many golf tournaments I’m curious how this works. Can you see any of the holes from the suite? Assume the rest you watch on TV? Seems like a pretty good idea considering the temps this weekend, just wondering.
It really depends on the tournament and how the boxes/course is set up. The only time I've sat in one in Houston it was right behind the 18th green and that was the only action you could actually see. Sometimes you can get one that's right between holes so you can see a little more but they do usually have TVs for you to see other stuff around the course. It's definitely a nice way to escape the heat and get food/drinks but if you're there to really watch the golf it's not very conducive to that
I have no idea now because it is at a new site. I know at the previous site it was kind of a box structure set up around the 17th green. Great views, but only of that one hole. Obviously, you can come and go and follow people around if you want. Never had the passes before, but I imagine that it will be good towards the end when some of the leaders are coming through
Speaking of Srixon irons, TGW just put new 545s and 745s on clearance. They’re 3-4 years old but I can get a 3-PW for $360. I’ve got Ping G30s that I like, but I’ve been wanting to try some forged irons more than just in a simulator and this seems like a relatively cheap way to do it for a new set that is quality made. Thoughts?
From what Ive seen the only difference between the 45s and 65s is the cosmetics and toe shape. If you like a more squared off look then the 45s are the way to go, rounded look 65s. 65s may be slightly more toe weighted but I don't think much. Ive seen a lot of people on wrx that didnt make the switch bc they liked the look of the 45s better at address.
88 today, golf always humbles you. Played a very tight course today and last week we got dumped on for 4 days straight. Course was still very wet, with 0 roll off the tee. Just couldn't find a grove. Played the course with the 3 other friends I'll be playing a scramble with tomorrow at the same place. We wanted to see the course a day before.
This might be my least favorite set of conditions. You’re having to hit longer irons out of worse reacting turf. I putt worse with these conditions too.
Great point, we were all hitting long irons into the green yesterday. You start hitting less greens, i.e. boggies start happening. All the par 3's were 185+ as well. Come on, give me one at 145, please. Really looking forward to today's scramble. Haven't played one in 15 years, need to drop some putts to have a chance to win.
Faxon and Daly at $5 are the most out of place to me. Edit, in scramble format drafting their skill might make sense. Daly off of the tee and Faxon putting would be quite valuable. I am guessing it is the same logic for Bubba off the tee.
