His content - by and large - is pretty decent. And he does videos on courses nobody else has, which is a huge value add to the golf community as a whole. For that reason, I think he’s a net positive. That said, he comes off as a hipster douche. He pretends his mini poodle is a service dog so she can go everywhere with him. He also asks clubs to get him early morning premium tee times and then shows up hours late without giving any notice. And then he brags about both of those things in his videos.
He comes across as a golf grifter, masking a made-up profound love for the game as an in to make money.
I think they let him play Pebble Beach the week before the US openast hear and he was playing from tees that were were clearly roped off. I saw people saying he wasn't supposed to be playing from there. He just seems rude to me at times.
This is how I feel about EAL. I got into him last year and really liked his approach to the game, but, over time, his true colors as a Hollywood type just using golf as his vehicle bubbled to the top. While I don’t hate the guy for trying to get his, the whole shtick comes off as unauthentic. Compare his attitude/excitement during AIG season 1 to the content he puts out now. It’s like night and day. With that said, I actually enjoy the shot by shot course vlogs he’s put out recently.
Has he actually bragged about lying that is dog is a service animal in a video? I’ve watched the vast majority of his videos and can’t recall ever hearing him say that but it could’ve been in one I didn’t watch.
Haven’t seen the video myself, but there was a huge discussion about it on The Refuse on the NLU site. So I’m guessing it happened in one of them.
Say what you want about the NLU guys, at least they have the respect for the people that run the golf courses, the tournaments, etc. Their interviews are great and they genuinely care. EAL and some others have zero respect and it’s all about the content. Makes me worried what the PGA tour will fuck up going forward.
John Deere is a no go. I don't know what the Tour was thinking even attempting to host an event in Illinois, let alone with fans.
Wonder if this is the first domino of a few more cancellations, or a standalone cancellation. Michigan and CT don't exactly seem like ideal locations for the first months of new tournaments as well.
So it appears that on Paige’s recent podcast they talked about push carts and whether or not they’re acceptable. Just saw that she made shirts and one says Push Cart Mafia but has a different logo. Wonder if NLU will say anything
Illinois has the tightest restrictions of any state if I'm not mistaken and a slow path set for opening. It was never going to happen. The state seems to be also going out of their way to shut down well to do white people recreation given the disparity in infection rates. (Moreso the city) They don't want to highlight the well off having a good time while the poor folk are still sick, bussing to their jobs every day, or out of work.
I saw she had Chris Long on as a guest. Good pull by her, but she hasn’t talked to anyone that actually golfs for a living.
Sheesh. I don't know how I would have got tend through all of this without playing a massive amount of golf.
I've played 26 rounds since April 1 and about to play the today, Sat, and Sun as well. It's been a great outlet.
Just went back and looked.. Played 37 times since school closed mid March. Most of those are walking 9.
Courses are open as of the beginning of May, but one example last s they are blocking off the "Playpen", this small Bay downtown where all the boaters go park their boats in the summer. It's optics like that they seem paranoid about.
Could that be due to social distancing? I know they've been breaking up boat parties in the south for months.
So this Tiger Slam doc... I feel like they burned this opportunity with a half assed cobbled together clip show. You can't put this out when The Last Dance just happened. This story deserved more.
42 yesterday afternoon. Playing 18 at 10:30 this morning, will see if the old man back can hold up. I get pretty damn tight after 9 holes that sounds sexual so I’m gonna leave it
I’m in the market for a new driver. I have this but it’s a stiff shaft and I have low club speed so it’s dumb Anyone have any recs? I don’t want something that’s $1k but it doesn’t have to be dirt cheap
I’m in the same boat. I’ve been looking at M4, cobra F9, and ping g400. Just need to try one out and pick one.
Cannot recommend the Cobra F9 enough. It was a top-notch rated driver last year and you can get it for cheap. Also, don't think they changed much in the new model. I had a Ping G400 max, switched to F9 and like it way more.
An even cheaper option.. My buddy just got a Tommy Armour driver. That's dicks house brand now. He got it on eBay for less than a hundred bucks. He's coming from an even older Taylor made and it's completely changed his game.
PGA Superstore gives you like 90 days to return something if you don't like it. If you aren't able to get to a place to try out clubs you can just buy one of them for relatively low risk.
I've used several cobras and I have one I switch up my titleist with occasionally now. I've always liked them
If you have a pga superstore nearby go hit as many different drivers as you can. It's amazing how much results can vary from club to club
Speaking of drivers I’ve had the same Callaway big bertha FT-3 fusion since like 2006, that thing might last forever
Couple years ago I went to Dick's to get fit for a driver. The store near me has a super knowledgeable golf lead that I go to for everything. I asked her to pull all the newest top of the line drivers. She watched me shank a couple and then recommended I buy an older, cheaper, driver and get some lessons. Tough scene.
When I went to buy my last driver I went to Edwin Watts and was very scared I was going to shank a couple, luckily I didn’t but I know those feels.
I shanked the ball so badly the other day, it went over this fucking net on the right. I was about 10 bays to the left of it.
I played 36 holes yesterday. First 18 was terrible, I’ve never played more balls above my feet in my life. But then went back to my home course, out a 39 and back 41...might have been better back had I not played the back as a single and all the foursome were letting me play through, always feel rushed when it happens.
