Heading to Myrtle Beach for a guys golfing weekend. Apparently we have 2 teams (I’m on Team Morning Wood) and are doing a Ryder Cup format. I am excite.
That’s literally exactly where it is. There’s nothing here. Was talking with one of the high ups and told him they need another 18 to make it a viable trip for golf groups to make. They were already talking to a couple architects about possibly doing another course here
Looking for a rain jacket recommendation. Going to be wet and in the 40s at Cabot next week. Was trying to save some money but starting to think if I don't get a gore-tex jacket, I will really regret it by Friday.
Can usually find really good GoreTex deals on eBay. Kjus is probably the best, but now the most expensive. But anything Zero Restriction, Galvin Green, or Sunice will be good. Under Armour makes some good GoreTex stuff too.
Bandon Dunes has a similar package I've been doing the last 6 years. 3 nights stay + 2 Breakfasts + 2 Dinners + 3 rounds of golf for $785. It runs from Mid November through February. Since it is southern Oregon coast it is basically northern California so weather has been pretty good when I go. This reminds me that I'm going back out there in 4 weeks.
Everybody playing scratch or is it handicapped. If handicapped, how do they work the foursomes and fourballs?
I would've assumed the weather is pretty lousy that time frame unless you go when the deal first starts in November. Do you always go around then? I'm really wanting to make a trip up there
I go same weekend every year, weekend before thanksgiving when the deal kicks off. It’s a crap shoot on weather, Oregon coast often sucks regardless of time of year. In 6 years I only left the course once when I had to stop and take my shoes off to pour the water out of them on 13 on Bandon. I’ve only worn a rain coat about 5 times in 24 rounds, which isn’t half bad. Deal extends through April, just gets a little more expensive.
Update. Played one of my worst rounds in the past 5 yrs yesterday. Thankfully I had a couple decent holes and my partner carried me so we took the point for the team.
Played Turnberry today. Absolutely incredible what they did bring 4 or 5 holes right on the water. Top 3 course I’ve played.
Played Fazio, Love, and Dye courses at Barefoot landing. Fazio was mediocre. I enjoyed the Love. And the Dye course was lots of fun and gorgeous though difficult.
Just saw TaylorMade said they won't be at the PGA show next year so they can focus on their players. Only other time this has happened was Nike Golf shortly before they announced they were getting out of the equipment game. I wouldn't think this announcement means anything as ominous as that but it seems very odd
Thanks for posting. I want to bid on one of the lots...also keeping my eye on another so I registered. They have to "approve my registration" yet before I can even bid so I guess we'll see. Not sure what all that entails.
Here to confirm everything that DistantFactor is saying about going to Bandon that time of year. I go on two trips each year down there. One at the end of January and the other is the first weekend in March. You can get some really good weather during the time frame For the deal DF was talking about. Usually we get one shitty day and 3 absolutely perfect days. January trip last year was 4 straight days of 65-70 degrees and hardly a breath of wind.
just got back from scottsdale. played talking stick, greyhawk and troon. all of the courses were cart path only because of recent overseeding. 16 of us in an airbnb. greyhawk is badass. i think our 4some lost about 18-20 balls combined at troon.
Gaddam! That must have been one hell of a huge ass house! Unless you had half the guys sleeping on the floor?
$20 is too much. They should let you bet $10 of your $20 on the match and if you win you get that $10 back. Would generate way more viewers.
Have they given any details about the coverage, like are they 100% micd up and what they plan to do between shots?
i mean it is technically on a friday but you’re making it sound like it’s on a normal friday which is obviously wrong
195 ball speed That and he can actually play. Led the field in strokes gained putting this week in his victory. The new age of top players coming through the ranks are another level above DJ, Rory, etc when it comes to speed/power. Cameron is the first of those to make the tour.
He said on an OSU podcast a couple months ago that he doesn't plan on it for a while, but if he keeps up this level of dominance then I'd guess there's a decent chance he goes after this year
I don't know what they can do about it, but it sucks how golf is turning into just pounding driver and basically wedging it unless you have just massive golf courses on huge pieces of property. The strategy and precision of hitting iron shots is pretty much a thing of the past. The obvious answer would be to tone down the golf ball or the drivers, but I just don't see that happening. It's difficult and expensive for these really good golf courses to change their bunkering, etc to keep up with the game. And often times, you just don't have the real estate, especially on the older school Donald Ross type courses.
Easy answer is to make the rough penalizing. I’m also of the minority that enjoys tournaments where the pros don’t go super low.
Played last Monday while on a work trip. Shot a career best 63. Had shot 64 on 2 different times as a junior golfer. Definitely didn't think I'd ever break it. Great day. Then watched my handicap drop an entire shot. Not so great day.
Agree with this and also more plentiful in areas of longer drives...i.e. fairway pinches severely or runs out at 300+.
