Was thinking it would make sense to see Tiger sit tomorrow to rest and captain but how does he justify that at this point? Best player out there for the US today
Don't think anyone is complaining about the golf or event or course. Seems to me they are complaining about the coverage or lack thereof
It's so much more entertaining watching guys deal with short grass and runoff areas as opposed to Target golf and letting the rough keep misses close.
and the broadcast spoiled it by coming back from commercial to show the internationals with a birdie putt
Yes. I've been watching golf on TV since 1982. Whatever they show on a Wednesday night in December is gonna work for me. Plus, it's day 1 of the President's Cup. Lotta golf to go.
yeah i’m retarded. got home and turned it on and someone was talking about all the vineyards in the area and it sounded like him
This is essentially the same as the whole “well back in the day The Masters didn’t show anything on Thursday or Friday so even the little coverage we get is great.” Prime time coverage on a Wednesday night is a great time to really take advantage of the window and show a lot of golf plus an amazing course. Cutting to commercial after every few shots doesn’t keep anyone’s attention, much less when Tiger is what, 5 under on his own
The abbreviated club twirl because I’m not actually 100% sure where this approach will end up is just great
Little stuff like this is a huge opportunity for the coverage. Help explain the features on a course that the overwhelming majority of people are never going to see in their life
Howeva, both NBC and Fox have a tendency to overload commercials early and build towards the weekend. Hopefully Friday/Saturday nights will be better
Interesting that as the matches move closer to completion, the coverage is better. Maybe they frontload the commercials early in the broadcast when they can get away with it?
This was exactly how they presented the last Ryder Cup as well. Was hoping it wouldn’t happen again, but oh well. At least they got the venue right.
I get that there is less golf happening, but it would be nice if they filled time with some hole flyovers showcasing the course.
Bryson should have sat as much as possible. He only plays well in target golf. He's sucked in British opens and complained about run-out on a soft Pebble Beach last year.
DJPie makes a living watching golf and commenting on it with his pals. He wants every shot from every player to be shown. The average viewer, myself included, has a couple hours to watch while dealing with all the rest of things life has to offer. Golf is on in the background while I deal with those things. Of course, the back nine of a Major gets my full attention but even then, I'm fucking around on a message board and flipping to other sporting events in commercial. Point being, I'm gonna see what needs to be seen. Not once have I felt that I missed a huge memory lasting moment in a tournament. Can the commercials be tedious? Hell yes, they can. But that's when I'm checking out other stuff. The network knows what it can get away with, and will continue to do so.
Not a huge fan of this guy's writing but this thread is wild. Going to try to pay attention to this tonight as I don't quite buy it that some of them didn't speak English
They did this at the last Presidents Cup too. Those “fans” got the prime seats behind the opening tee box. They had roped off seats in the first few rows. It was all for show/TV.
Weird. I guess I've never thought of Australia as a big sporting community (other than rugby) so I suppose I can believe it.
Australia has a massive sporting culture. It’s just really far from anywhere so I doubt many fans from other countries are traveling there.
