Good afternoon gents. I have been taking some lessons and really working on my irons this year. I've seen my striking and distance increase drastically and I'm hitting a push draw pretty consistently now. Feels damn good to have a pretty good idea of where the ball is going to end up now. My question is this. I've been playing with Ping G10's. I know the ultimate answer is to play with what I'm comfortable with, but should I just continue to roll with my GI irons or is it time to take a bump up? I'm losing a little distance playing GI's right?
Those irons aren't going to cost you distance. The shafts might, but not the heads. If you're concerned about distance, go get your shafts tested
I'm really worried that I'm eventually going to do this and find out I need different shaft flexes for everything and it'll end up costing more than getting a new set.
I'd go let a pro look at your swing and tell you about the shafts. PING stock shafts are typically weak compared to other shafts. The quality is fine, but a Pings S shaft is pretty whippy, compared to others
I don't really keep up with equipment so I have a question. I have a tour ad di 7 shaft in my 4 wood (910f) and it's my favorite club. That shaft is incredible. So my question is, how much has driver head technology changed the past 5 years? I have a ping i20 that I really don't like. I'm tempted to scoop up a used Tour AD DI 7s and put it with my 909D2 head that was my previous driver, but is still in good shape. Should I shell out more for a newer driver head or is the 909D2 technology still good?
So I went and played 9 yesterday and I am drawing the ball now on purpose. It's a little harder for me to control than the cut I was playing but the distances are SO SEXY. It's weird for me missing targets left but I probably hit more greens yesterday in nine holes than my previous two 18 hole rounds combined. And I don't think I missed a fairway yesterday..just an awesome feeling. My putting is still dick, don't wanna talk about it.
No worries man. I just knew it had been a week since I shipped it and wanted to make sure it made it.
I was going to say something last week about how the Masters hangover really overshadows the RBC and how no one really cares about it. That's not true. I actually enjoy watching them play Harbor Town. This New Orleans tourney though, seriously, no one cares about it. Sandwiched between the Masters and the Players, it's just a forgettable speed bump.
i won my first scramble yesterday. The school i work for was hosting a fundraising event. I was working the registration table and a group came through looking for a fourth. I told them I would look out for a fourth and a little bit later the head of registration came up and asked if i played golf. Of course I volunteered to play. Had no clubs and was in my tennis shoes but the guys were cool and let me pull whatever from their bags. Felt good to take home the trophy. Can't wait to call maintenance to hang my plaque in my office. During the afternoon session I was driving the beer cart and one of the players in a group had to leave because his wife was headed to the ER. So I offered to join them and my beer cart girl drove him to the clubhouse. Thank God I did because they were struggling. Ended up getting them a few birdies to finish at E for a scramble... What a great day of 'volunteering'
I'm hoping to get on one this week if nothing else to swing a club before I play for the 1st time since October and I'll post if I do
Swung a club for the first time in more than a year.Thought I hit it pretty well, but I was hitting it off a mat, so who knows. New irons felt kinda meh. I did hit fattmante's Calloways, and those things felt sweet.
I know we only had like 4 players to choose from in the A group, but no one has an A player left in the tournament.
Picked up a new bag for my birthday today. Looked a little funny being 28 still using my high school bag but somehow it is still in good shape after 12 years of use. Playing Monday at the course I grew up on. They're building a new course on Hartwell Lake probably opening in 2018 that'll just be a few miles away I'm looking forward to opening. I'm hoping they don't cheap out on it and make it something nice. It'll be about 10 minutes from Clemson.
Need a rec on some athletic golf spikes. I want to go spikeless sneakers when I go to just the range or for practice, but I am getting new Dryjoys for realsies. My adidas shoes are toast.
Been hitting my irons pretty solid for a while, but couldn't get rid of the nasty slice with my driver. Went to the range with nothing but my driver today, and think I have it figured out. My scores should drop significantly if I can keep that thing in the fairway with the added distance I'm getting. Just hoping I can actually take it from the range to the teebox.
Did Brandel Chamblee and Charlie Rymer get in a spat on TV this morning? Saw on Twitter Rymer was saying that they are friends and just got in a heated discussion. Wasn't sure what it was about
Just got finished on a launch monitor and apparently I need to quit. Only swung 105 and my best shot went 300 dead ass straight. I'll chalk it up to being sick and not playing since October but still a long way to go to catch gritzy
I battle the same issue. Worked it out pretty good and got it straight or with a slight draw but developed another problem in the process. Spoiler Righty. Middle finger right hand, neutral to weak grip. Opens up every time I go out.
I get a couple nasty blister spots on my bottom hand as well. I've started going with gloves on both hands. Looks stupid but feels good.
It's not a blister though. It's just a spilt in the skin. Bleeds like a bitch. I have to clean all my grips when I'm done.
