When i used to work in a pro shop and members that lived on a course would call at like 7pm and complain kids are fishing the ponds. like mother fucker i don’t give a shit unless they are fucking up the course with some golf cart with road grade tires.
I live about 7 minutes from the course I play the most and less than 2 minutes from the town goat track. I definitely have a favortism and appreciation for the finer things in life but I probably have more fun at the goat track with all the riff raff. Reminds me how I grew up. It's a small, tight track so you can buzz around quick and it's easy to play if you ignore hitting off dead pans, shitty greenside lies and awful bunkering. Have a friend that only breaks 100 on really good days and he likes playing there because it's the least pretentious thing ever so we entertain him usually if he's playing with us. Usually the type of round where I try not to let my wife see how much alcohol I'm putting in the cooler.
Funny thing is I just spent $650 on a driver fitting with the pro that was asked to tell me. He was super apologetic and offered to pick up the 30ish balls i'd chipped. Of course I told him id clean up and apologized too. He insisted on helping but part of me thinks it was to get me out of there quicker...
I just bought a set of Ping g400 irons and realize that the pw is the loft that my old 9 iron was so I'll have to get a 50 degree. Until I do I'll probably just keep my ping eye 2 PW in the bag.
I was gonna say the top thing. We are all pretty good friends with our pro and the amount of shit he gets from some members is absurd. Rough is too thick. Rough is too cut. Greens too fast/slow. Could keep going but you get the point
Local 9 hole course isn’t challenging but is fun. Scrambles every Wednesday and Friday after work and is maybe too laid back. Folks wearing sleeveless shirts and one guy play bare foot.
Yeah I have the 410s. The PW on my old irons was 49° so I figured these were the same. Had no idea the PW was a 45° on the 410s.
Do y'all have a PVC "rake" deal to push them to the side, or did you collect them back into a basket?
Not at the moment. Think somehow covid related. We have those bag collectors with the metal shoot on the bottom but both were used by two other guys at the time. I just grabbed a small basket and was chipping those balls. I just tapped all the balls back towards the basket and helped put them in.
I spent most my time in a pro shop at a club in South Texas. Imagine if you bitched about someone not wearing a collared shirt you’d be the one with the problem. Jeans, boots, etc you name it people wore it. Probably my most enjoyable time in the business. Just a super laid back membership and a pretty dang good course that’s now a housing development I think.
I get annoyed that when I got to other clubs they meet me in the parking lot with a cart, yet at mine the cunts sit there and just offer me a wet towel outside the pro shop
Do you guys ever have problems with people fishing on the course? Twice this month people have been fishing on a bridge going from fairway to green. I'm wildly inconsistent and they are standing right between me and the green. The other day I skulled a 6 iron right between two of them head high.
What kind of deal? What didn't you like? I got a deal on this one or I wouldn't have jumped on it. I used this one for 3 rounds before buying. I wasn't making anything, hitting bad putts, but made nothing for 5ish rounds. Borrowed this to look down at something different and loved it immediately. I've struggled a little with speed due to it being significantly heavier than my previous gamer. The positive is that every putt is starting on my line
With so many brands for rangefinders on the market now, is the recommendation still Bushnell? Looking for one with a slope on/off feature but that’s about it. Any recommendations and/or sites I should look at for the best deal?
I was a cart guy in college at a private club. Easily one of favorite jobs. Nice chunk of cash income on top of minimum wage, free unlimited golf, cheap clubs from the dipshit members who bought new gear every week and the pros would call around to other private clubs and get us on.
Always had Bushnell and have never had a reason to look at other brands. I'm considering trading it in and upgrading since I've had mine for 6ish years.
I went discount and bought a brand off amazon called lazerworks. It was ok to get me in, but it didn’t have directions on how to use it to the fullest. It sometimes just like won’t work, it’ll be fully charged but it will be like nah, go use your gps, I’m busy.
8 of us going on a golf trip to the Poconos this wknd. Tropical storm like conditions Friday, and heavy rain Saturday. Awesome.
We started selling precision pro rangefinders in the shop. Cheap price point, excellent customer service. Slight downgrade from Bushnell but 220 vs. 4-500. Something goes wrong with bushnell it is send it in and wait 6 weeks. With precision pro you get a new one no questions asked.
They’ll also replace batteries for life. Only thing I’m not sure of is if you can turn slope off on the pro version
Been eyeing a precision pro for awhile. Just never pull the trigger because the app on my phone works pretty well.
I used to let a few guys I knew fish on the course I was at. The stipulation was they they were off the course by the time they saw first tee time. They were usually there at 5:00AM and off before 8:30AM. Never had a problem and they were super respectful. The owner’s husband, however, was an absolute maniac. Would bring guns on the course and shoot stuff just to kill it. Would find ammo casings all the time.
Same here, but 36 holes (18 public, 18 private). Nothing like playing 1, 8, and 9 on the private side after everyone in the shop has gone home, while you wait for the last cart that is with some gypsy, out on the public course, getting their money's worth.
I got one in May and really like it. It’s my first one so I don’t have a lot to compare it to but no complaints so far.
