probably gets his TM shit for free but doubt he has an actual sponsor deal but can’t remember the poster that is an instructor would know better
The euphoria after the hole-in-one was so cool That crowd was full of idiots, but man everyone went ape shit when that happened
The dude never loses control of the script. His closing remark in the video... "I look forward to hopefully, making that exemption a huge value to your tournament." That's a PGA Professional.
That was about as good/entertaining of a pga as I can remember. Often forgotten as the ‘4th major’ but the leaderboard was stacked and the storylines were incredible. Read where Brooks isn’t far off from probably earning enough Ryder Cup points to already make it, plays decent in other majors and he will be a lock. Pretty nuts.
Played Sawgrass again this weekend for a St. Jude charity tournament. 3rd time now 1/3 on hitting the green on 17
I was talking with some Oak Hill board folks yesterday and they weren’t very confident that the PGA will be held there again anytime soon with it happening in May now. There’s some talk that they may pivot and try to do what it takes with the USGA to get in contention for a future US Open.
if frost delays occur regularly in may, then it makes sense. It’s too bad. I enjoyed watching it. And I like the run off areas from the greens
The course was not as tough as billed. Maybe the rain completely neutered the greens but idk. It’s truly a par 71, they don’t really let you get to either par 5 in 2, rough is way up and yet it still took 272 to win. Feels like besides holes 6/7 the rest of the course didn’t have a lot of teeth. Could also just be “these guys are good”.
I think you’re underselling the performance of three guys. 11 people finished under par. And fourth place was 3 under. Course played tough in my opinion. You just had three guys finish and 7 and 9. But I think we need to look at those performances as pretty extraordinary
This is the kind of major I enjoy. Definitely tough to where you see the players out of their comfort zones, but not the circus the USGA tries to create. I want to see good, challenging golf, not guys being made to struggle to make bogey.
It was hard enough to get a tee time there in the first place, they are one of the only local courses whose membership card has a waitlist. There’s an old Bob Does Sports vid of them playing Beau Hossler there
I agree that a golf tournament in Rochester during May is a massive gamble Course was in amazing shape though
All the PGA tour radio guys were blown away by the course and town. They are saying it has to keep hosting majors.
Started Bogey, Par, Par, Par yesterday which is incredible for me and thought I was in for something. Posted a 10 on the next hole Par 5. Not sure why I started playing this stupid ass game during COVID
I tried to caveat it with the rain really taking out the sting of the greens and closely mown areas. But I was just underwhelmed by the lack of penalty for being short sided out there. It was a good test no doubt and perhaps I’m overselling how “difficult” it was being portrayed leading up to the tournament. Make it a par 71 with 17 as a par 5 and I imagine you get another 8-10 golfers under par.
(M is my 69 year old dad. Yes I choked on 17 again, can’t blame it on the bunker this time. Carried my 3 wood over water 230 out to get on in 2 at 18, if I would’ve made the eagle putt I would’ve jumped into the water without hesitation. Pending handicap is the lowest of my career so far)
I saw him talk about this on Live last night. If by some crazy chance, he won either of his next 3 events (Colonial, RBC, PGA) he has to try the 2 year exemption, right? Even if it's to do a limited schedule
He's a retired PGA club pro so in his prime he was scratch. He's a 5 these days, still playing from the blue tees (much to his chagrin at sea level) Watching the Michael Block show with him this weekend was a treat
Me and my buddies like to gamble and play different “golf games” when we get together and play. Are there any apps out there where it has the golf games and you record the scores/shots and it calculates who won based on the game?
I haven't used it in a couple years but I know 18Birdies did/does. iirc it's got a lot (too much imo) of functions and tracking type stuff you can choose to use or not.
Watching that, it appears to me that Brandel is considering it in the moment and realizing that Faxon is correct.
Yeah, I watched it live and that was my reaction. Talk about how he took money from Saudi's and shouldnt be able to play for his country because of that or some shit. Trying to say it is a PGA tour vs LIV vs Euro Tour thing is dumb.,
