As long as they’re not intentionally holding up play or intentionally destroying the course I don’t give a shit what anyone does.
Yeah the only argument I could see as far as Good Good being "bad" for golf is just that maybe some bros will see them playing 6 to 8 people deep on the same hole and emulate that on their own courses not knowing GG probably blocks out 3-4 tee times in a row or play at the end of the day so they don't hold up the course
they're literally giving mini-tour golfers access to career sustaining funds. what are we doing here? GG is not the drunk bros on the tees.
Who is arguing with who here? I want to say that the only reason I have avoided Good Good is a saturation perspective. I have NLU video content and Fried Egg/ SGS for my podcasts and I don't have time for something new. Even when Homa and Bacon were doing their pod that was a chore to try to fit in (partially because they went on for two hours all the time)
I mean to be fair, these dudes are definitely upholding and profiting from golf fashion norms, which I’ve always found super dorky Really enjoy a lot of the content though
I’m not arguing with anyone. I stated an opinion that I don’t like YouTube golf content. Damn near a non sequitur Wasn’t even about good good specifically but since it was on the heels of good good talk, some apparent fanboys took offense.
This game is maddening. As a baseball coach, my golf season pretty much starts now. I did get out once about 2 weeks ago when we had an off day of practice which was the first time I picked up a club since last September. I basically shanked my way around the course and quit after 13 holes. Was so disgusted that I told my buddy who I play in our 3 day with that he may need to find a new partner as I wasn't going to embarrass myself playing like that. Our season finally ended on Wednesday and we set up a tee time for Friday. I thought I may have figured out what I was doing wrong after the first round after mentally replaying all the bad shots but Friday was the first time I would get to test out my theory. I hit a few balls on the range before we headed out and was able to get the ball airborne, which was something I couldn't do in my first round. Went out on the course and shot an 82 like the first round never happened. Such a stupid game.
Thank you for this. Good Good has gotten to a point they could probably block out 4 hours of tee times to film and happily pay top dollar for each and every tee time. If I remember correctly, when they made their first trip to the UK to film with Rick Shields they booked the whole course for the entire week to film as much content as they wanted. Plus a lot of these courses would not mind the exposure, 500K - 1M views for a course vlog. Also, Good Good is about to come out with another Major, which they played at Pebble Beach a week or two ago.
I mean that’s just rust my dude. I’ve been quitting every other week for 30 years. Took root for real for a decade plus, and it’s my biggest regret. Nice recovery and keep swinging
If you don't mind me asking, in your hay day what did you normally shoot or what was your hdc? If you were able to shoot an 82 off of rust, you were probably close to scratch at one point.
Making our annual trip over in Tulsa in two weeks with a group of 16 friends to play in a tourney and then we play 3 more courses in the area the rest of the weekend.
What are y’all playing. Going to be out there late June. Used to know the area well but it’s been forever. Formerly known as Sand Springs but now Blackjack Canyon is my only must play. Names I remember liking are Page Belcher, Forrest Ridge, La Fortune, Broken Arrow Athletic Club (so easy)
We are playing Blackjack Canyon and La Fortune for sure. La Fortune is right next to the dudes house we are all staying at (it’s massive). I’ll post the list when I know for sure. Battlecreek too I believe
Battlecreek was good too. Look into Golf Club of Oklahoma. 99% sure you can play as a non-member. Gem
The game doesn't seem that maddening to you. Just practice more. Every one who ever got good at the game basically realized you have to practice... a lot. Practice counts more than playing in terms of trying to improve.
Ok, now I understand what you meant. Still find it super odd...like YT is an enormous place with what, probably, 50+ decent sized channels specific to golf in some form and you're a golf fan (I assume?) but there's no one on there you've ever found that you like?
Folks, allow me. Blackjack lost their greens a few weeks back so you may want to look into that. Forest Ridge is nowhere near worth the price tag and is going private sometime soon due to people overload. Page Belcher was bought by Troon so hopefully that helps the maintenance, but it has been overrun the last couple years as well. I’m happy to host at Hillcrest if you can make a drive 40 minutes north of Tulsa; I’ve had several guests tell me it’s their favorite Tulsa area track (Southern Hills excluded). It’s a great Perry Maxwell and well worth it
Yeah I actually watched a lot of the video and I haven’t watched much of GG stuff in quite awhile. Golf content is tough, it’s hard to put out a lot of stuff without it getting really repetitive quick
I don’t really consume much golf YouTube content. But I do absolutely love the Chasing Scratch podcast.
Yeah I know you have to practice more to get better but with the obligations I have in my life, playing to a 10-12 is just fine for me. My golf season spans about 4 months and with little to no serious range time. What was maddening was the ability to go out and look like I never played golf before and then in a span of 10 days and with no practice, go out and hit the ball real well and shoot 82. I know I had to knock the rust off during my first round but I've never played that many holes without figuring it out.
That really sucks to hear. Those were my happy places when I visited my dad as a kid, especially Blackjack. I was already bummed out over my home course when I lived up there for a couple years getting shut down (White Hawk). Thanks for the tip and invite though. Would be cool if the timing works out
With my time I am able to get out once or twice a week mostly at my home club. If I have time in my schedule to play, I play. During the summer months I at best hit the range once a month. On top of that I might practice my short game and putting about once a month. My practice is on the course. Over the past 2 years I have gone from a 12 to an 8.2 by just playing. During the winter I'll hit the range more and the simulator a couple times a month. I have aspirations to get to 4-5 cap and the only way to get there is more practice on the short game. I'm sure when I finally retire I'll spend more time practicing, but for now, I just love playing.
Read some of the last page and a half but recently stumbled upon a YouTube channel of a guy that built a par 4 or 5 hole in his back yard. Guy had to own some equipment rental company or construction company with all the machinery he had available.
I also now get suggested reels or posts from backyard green groups or simulators. just a lot of jealousy usually
So it looks like I'm headed to Bandon in less than a month, a spot just opened up and I said fuck it. Any tips/recs would be appreciated since I never really paid attention to them when others would solicit help. Seems like flying in to Eugene is the play?
Eat the meatloaf. Eat the Korean breakfast bowl. Try and play a round at Sheep’s Ranch in the afternoon so you get the sunset. Place is magical.
Eugene is an easy 2.5 hour drive and a small airport so easy in/out. Portland has more direct options but is a 4 hour drive. I’ve never tried North Bend but it does have multiple options this time of year. Can also look into Medford, I did that my first trip and it’s 3ish hours The itinerary must already be set for you since you’re joining a trip, but hopefully you’re playing all the courses. Caddies are expensive but worth it, I can send you some names if needed (again guessing these might already be arranged). I’d start going for long walks to prepare for 10+ miles per day assuming you’re playing 36. Also, stretching/rolling your feet and legs at the end of the day can help a lot
Just booked the Bend flight, trip is actually from scratch rn, what opened up was the cottage and they clued in my buddy so he grabbed it
Playing in my first Memorial Day tournament at my course tomorrow. Not sure if others do it this way but thought this was pretty cool. Whatever your handicap is you add that to the par. I’m a 4 so my goal is 76 shots. I have that many shots to complete the course. We’re all given a flag. Wherever our last shot of your goal is, you put the flag in the ground. I saw pictures from last year and it’s an awesome site to see all the flags in the ground on the final holes.
I don't know anything about Grillo, but him bringing the 2 kids down to hit balls after he blew this lead is pretty cool.
Anyone have any personal launch monitors? After reading the mygolfspy review I’m between the Rapsodo and the PRGR. Don’t need anything crazy just something that can give me accurate feedback on the range.
Got a prgr. For the price point, it’s tough to beat. It’s also great to use if you ever decide to do the stack or speed sticks to track your speed.
That’s pretty much exactly why I need it. My driver is going no where right now so I’m on a mission to get to 115mph swing speed.
I don’t think so anymore. Iron distance is fine, haven’t really lost any distance there but driver is 20 yards shorter than where I normally am. Only hitting it 265 when I hit a good one. I don’t swing it hard right now (105 mph) but driver is just really disappointing especially after I finally got fit and paid $1400 for a new driver. Not hitting it the numbers I hit it at the fitting I can tell you that
