Would they have not played tomorrow if we got to 15.5 today? I know it would've been unnecessary to play, but because if tv would it have forced them to?
Okay, I was watching I'm mute most of the day so I never really heard them say. No matter what the decision was, it would be silly. I'm glad there's still "a chance" for the international team so they're not just out there playing to play
A perfect example of where my issues are at the moment. Played 9 at a par 3 course today. 7 hit it to 5 feet, 2 putt 8 hit it to 10 feet 2 putt 9 hit the pin, bounced off to 15 feet, made bogey.
Didn't you say you're planning on trying to get on the Old Course? Should be in nice tournament condition after hosting the Dunhill Links this weekend
Yup, doing the whole Dunhill loop of the Old, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. Would be cool if all the grandstands are still up. 2 nights in Dornoch then 4 in St Andrews
Kingsbarns is absolutely breathtaking. Any idea if they’ll ever be in line to host an Open? Missed an ace on 13 by an inch when I was there 3 years ago....
Just hosted the women's British this year. With the current rotation for the men's championship, I'd guess it's another 15-20 years before Kingsbarns is in the mix
R&A is pretty crazy about their rota, but they are adding Portrush back so that’s nice. Everything I’ve heard is that the men would tear Kingsbarns apart unless they really tightened it up though.
Got my first eagle on Friday, drivable par 4 with a 10 foot putt; last three rounds set new personal best of 84, 82, and 81. Feels good to improve and have breaking 80 realistically within reach.
Anyone have any recs for courses in the Destin/Panama City Beach region for later this month? Preferably under $100.
For PCB I’d recommend the Nicklaus course at Bay Point. Not too familiar with Destin courses but there are plenty of nice ones there. Windswept dunes is a nice track just north of Destin/30a on the north side of the intercostal
I didn't know it was private. My buddy set it up. I assumed that it was public or semi-private. We played it and a couple of others on a guys trip.
They do allow unaccompanied guest play but usually a pro has to call and set it up unless you know a member.
I will say I was very disappointed with the viewing experience at the Presidents Cup. I went Saturday and it was a very mixed bag. In the morning, very few people were there so you could follow the groups around leisurely and see a little bit of golf. Only 4 groups out at a time though, so it’s limited. The first tee in the afternoon was awesome. Watching golf in the afternoon once everyone showed up was near impossible. Instead of the entire crowd spread out across the whole course watching like at a normal event, you have everyone around the 4 holes that are currently being played. It’s impossible to actually see any golf unless you wait hours at a certain grandstand for them to reach your hole. The scoreboards around the place showed very limited live video in the afternoon for some reason too. Liberty National also didn’t help in that there were very few places where you could stand and watch multiple holes at once. Everything was super bottle necked. I’ll still be going to the Ryder Cup once it gets to Bethpage, but more so for the experience. Also would pay up for some sort of club seats just so you can actually watch some golf.
Watching golf live sucks. You basically have to get lucky with who you follow or where you park your ass for a good seat and hope you see action. I want to go to Paris more for the experience. Go to maybe a day of the matches and sit in the bars and yuck it up with the Euros the rest of the time. Spoiler and try to avoid terrorists
Agreed 100%. Point being is that the viewing is somehow even worse in these team events. It’s like having field passes in the end zone for a football game. Incredible experience, but you’re not seeing much.
That was my plan a couple years ago prior to going to the RC at Hazeltine. Now I'm not going. As Irish said, the actual golf viewing is awful. Now it's still awesome because of the atmosphere but if I ever go again I would just go for 1 day then watch the rest on TV. Don't get me wrong...it's still Paris and would still be an awesome trip though.
Yeah, I've been Oakland HIlls and Hazeltine for the RC and want to go on their soil. Plan was to do a guys trip every two years and go, but struggling.
Also, because of this ^^^ the actual ability to watch golf should be better. The Euros definitely don't get near the amount people to attend that we do. It's legit hard to get a ticket to the RC here....they don't do the lottery there because there isn't the demand. You just have to register and then go online to buy if you want.
The girlfriend and I are going to Paris for the Ryder cup. It falls on my 30th bday. Only have tickets right now for Thursday practice round and opening ceremony. We want to go Friday and Sunday but have to find tickets because they sold out as we were trying to buy them last week when they went on sale. We're going to do a 2 week trip and hit Italy while we're there as well.
I remember going to Riviera in the 90's to watch the pros play. First year I thought "This kind of blows, I can't see shit." As a short dude, it was even worse for me than some of my taller buddies. Friends talked me into going again the following year and that cemented it for me. Never going to another tournament (with Augusta being the exception, of course).
Practice rounds > Tourney rounds. Also, the Dell Matchplay is a great spectator event. I followed Jason Day for 18 holes with a group of about 12 other people.
Costco ball is back in stock. https://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Sig...ver-Golf-Ball,-2-dozen.product.100310467.html
Currently rolling with a GHIN of 9.3. Played a round from the white tees at this course on Friday http://www.arborlinks.com/golf/proto/arborlinks/index.htm and was getting 15 strokes. First time I've played a game against a plus handicap.
Heading down to ATL to play Ansley and Settindown the rest of the wk. Heard I am going to get my ass kicked at Settindown.
We've always started it where the first event is the Tournament of Champions in Kapalua so the first weekend of January
Anyone here knowledgeable about southern Oklahoma/northern Texas golf courses? Not so much ones in/around the major cities, more rural ideally. Maybe * J Y * or tjosu or NineteenNine ?
