Had my fitting at club champion in Atlanta this morning. I was hitting the ball poorly to say the least (I hate mats). Want to do another fitting outdoors. Biggest take away was that I am coming in too steep on my woods. Wanted to re shaft my irons, wedge, driver and 4 hybrid. Add a 3 hybrid, new 3 wood, and new putter. Quoted $3,200. Was an enjoyable process but would like to break up and do it in two sessions.
$3,200 to re-shaft 11 clubs and purchase 3 new? Glad to see we have a member of the PXG troops in here
If any of you are looking for a fitting rob at club champion in Atlanta was great to work with. Feel inclined to mention that since his name is on the sheet. I have looked online and some of the club shaft combos aren’t available upgrades. Any help on the best way to get this is welcomed and will be rewarded with likes.
Curious how this experience went. Did you get paired up with people? Wife enjoy tagging along? Gf is fine with walking with me in February but I just wanted to make sure she’d be welcome
I’d recommend walking. We rode a cart but it was path only and was more a hassle than anything. She’ll enjoy the walk. Are you playing after the Farmers? Rough should be brutal. We were paired with a family from Boston. Rough is so thick they tell you to take a free drop if you can’t find it within a minute. It was a breathtaking experience. Prettiest golf course I’ve ever played. I can see why some don’t love the layout but it’s a gem of a muni.
The caddies and everyone out there are really chill and it’s not a stuffy environment. She’ll be welcomed
Awesome. I’m playing a few weeks after the Farmers, during a time of year when I can’t play much at home. Should be humbling. I have read that carts are kind of pointless because it’s generally a slower pace of play
To my southern golf bros itt... In the very early stages of planning a ~4 day golf trip in mid-March to play some of the Robert Trent Jones trail courses. We're thinking of flying direct to ATL and getting a rental car which we'll use for our travels between courses each day. Ideally would like to get a centrally located Airbnb/VRBO that we would have the whole time. Before we get too far into the planning, what do I need to know? Are there any "must play" courses or are they all good in their own ways? Any to avoid? Any courses not on the trail that we should play instead?
So there are a few rtj courses around Birmingham that are gorgeous. If flying southwest it is reasonably cheap to fly directly there and avoid the drive. You could base there and cover the surrounding courses and with only a 90ish minute drive you could hit the rtj in Prattville. The course in mobile is nice but wouldn’t be worth the drive down. Heard the Greenville course was having some issues. It was nice when I played it a long while ago. The auburn course would be a 3ish hour drive. You could spend all four days playing great rtj courses all within 45 minutes of Birmingham.
Don't live in Birmingham anymore but I have played most of the sites (Lacking dothan and mobile). I don't know how the travel schedule is going to work and if you are going to have four full days or some partial travel days. Make Birmingham your home base. Ross Bridge is the trail's premiere course and will cost you a few more bucks to play. They used to play a senior tour event there. IMO it is worth it but some may disagree. The oxmoore valley course is okay but nothing spectacular. It is worth it because you get to stay in Birmingham. I would then head down to Auburn. They play the PGA Barbasol classic the same week as the British Open there. Good courses and plenty to do in a college town. Follow that up with a short drive to over to Montgomery to play 36 at the Judge and the Senator. I wouldn't waste my time playing the legislator. It is pretty similar to what you will see at the other sites. From there head back up to Birmingham and hit which ever course you didn't play the first time through. You could add a stop at silver lakes on the trip over from Atlanta or dip down to Greenville after you playing Montgomery if you are looking for more golf.
