Friend of mine goes to Scottish Open most years. Says the access to the players is incredible. Super low key for a tournament with pretty high caliber golfers.
Shot a personal best 74 today. Went bogey-double on 8 and 9 to make the turn at 2 over and almost dropped a bird from the fringe of 18 for 35 on the back. Don't care, super pumped. Not like it's going to stick, but pretty good ad opportunity as I picked up a dozen of the TP5's at 20% off just to try out and had a solid first round with them
Did some iron testing on trackman today. The new Ping i500's are ridiculously long. I hit some 7 irons that flew 183.
people on Twitter are getting after Wyoming alum David Hearn and claiming that he is trying to anchor his putter while wearing a baggy shirt and having that long putter
Same has been said about Langer on the Senior Tour. Most of the time, he makes a concerted effort to take the butt of the putter off his chest. But sometimes he doesn’t, and people (rightfully) freak out.
Won 4 tickets for Tuesday in the raffle. Looking at hotels in Columbia SC seems reasonably priced. Is this a smart move?
Swing was still feeling good today so got a couple vids. Not a good angle and couldn't get a good one from the side
I've heard plenty of variations of "you have a little Matsuyama pause in your swing". I've tried making some changes and speeding it up but never feel comfortable with it and distance isn't a problem so I figure I'll let it ride
Columbia is about 1hr 15 min to Augusta. I think it’s a pretty good call. If you are flying in you might want to be closer to ATL though.
I'm in Columbus, OH so it's not like some crazy drive. We will probably come down Monday, drive over to Augusta Tuesday and leave right from there to head home.
It is though. The guys that were forced in to putting like everyone else after the ban made by people smarter than you and me on this topic have almost universally had much worse results.
That's not true. Webb Simpson might have his best year ever this year. Bernhard Langher is still killing it on the senior tour like he has for damn near a decade now. It's like changing the style of your putter. If you take 100 guys who play blade putters and make them all use mallets there are some who won't get used to it and just always be a worse putter, then there are those who will eventually get used to it and be just as good as they were if not better.
You gave 2 examples. Webb Simpson won a major with a long putter so doubt this qualifies as his “best”. Langher uses a modified version of his old anchored style and has done well. Adam Scott is in the witness protection program now. Craig Stadlers son is off the tour after moving along at a pretty good trajectory and winning a tournament or two. If you ask the guys who were anchoring that can’t now I would say they wouldn’t brush it off as no big deal. Your comparison doesn’t fly.
The biggest problem with the new anchoring rule is that is still requires “intent” for a guy to be penalized. So say someone clearly anchors their putter on a 15 footer to win The Masters, and makes it. It’s not considered a broken rule unless the player admits to consciously doing it. So some guys (Langer has been plain called out) have been anchoring, gotten caught, and then just plead ignorance. That shouldn’t be allowed.
Excited for The Open. Not much rain in the forecast with relatively low winds. The course is apparently baked out and the players can't get the ball to stop rolling in the fairways.
This thing may be setting up for big cat. I don't have the balls to pick him. May throw some change at Stenson.
Tiger should just not carry a driver and fire stinger after stinger. Would go nicely with this special shot tracer that's going to show the total rollout
He’s an Italian who just won his first ever PGA Tour event. Although he’s older than 40, correct? If so, that’s a positive.
Planning on waking up at 4am to watch tomorrow. Can't pull the all nighters like a young Cole Trickle did back when this board started.
