Man this coverage is as bad as I can remember. Missing shots, tons of commercials that really disrupt the flow and no continuity following the golfers around.
He threw his retirement out the window on a Killhouse episode a couple weeks ago. The new Trap Draw podcast is awesome. The actual ideas discussed were zany but they did call out some major issues that most golf fans don’t even understand are major issues.
Just looked back at Duvals scorecard from round one. Starts off birdie birdie, couple pars, has to be feeling pretty good and then...a quad, a bogey and whatever you call +9 on a par 5. That is brutal.
Part of me wishes I hadn't listened to so much of their coverage criticism because I hardly noticed any of it.
Does Phil win another major? Last W was 2013 British Open and he seems to be trending in the wrong direction/competition with younger guys is way up.
Pretty wild hole he posted. Par 5, I could be getting part of this wrong: questionable tee shot so hit a provisional. Couldn't find either so had to go back and re tee. Then some how plays the wrong ball all the way to the green. Then he had to back and play part of that again. I would have probably walked home.
Bunch of loopholes guys use to keep their Tour cards, particularly faking injuries. Using not great golf courses and locations for Tour events based solely on money. How stupid some of the WGC events are and how they’re almost exclusively played in North America. Slow play was also a big one, albeit a much more obvious problem.
Started listening on the way to work this morning. Laughed at the no yardages anywhere on the course or scorecard. "Heres the fucking hole, go get it" That would be fun to watch.
Listened to a little as well. Loved the idea of penelizing players for slow play in the tent. Hey, so congrats on the 64 but you have 12 strokes added for slow play, congrats on your 76.
I love the idea of having the 76-100 PGA Tour guys going up against the 1-25 Web guys in a 36-hole match play for a Tour card. Would be wildly entertaining.
So they’re tearing out the fairways on 1 of our courses and resodding with TifTuf Bermuda, and everything is supposed to be done in a 2 week span. Seems absurd but what do I know
Hopefully they are getting commercials out of the way now so we can see some golf when the contenders are on the course.
The thing that annoys me the most is they will show a drive and then skip the approach shot, which is the most interesting part of links golf and what we don't get to see every week.
im a fan of Royal Portrush, would hope they come back to this venue. the players seem to be taking kindly to it as well. does anyone know what is the delay with getting the Open to Royal County Down? is it a deal where it can't deal with the crowds?
Sounds like Portrush has already been confirmed for two more Opens. Not entirely sure when though. Not entirely sure on RCD. They’ve held European Tour events there in the past, so the infrastructure is there. Not to mention, it’s a lot closer to a major metropolitan area (Belfast is 25 min away, compared to being over an hour away from Portrush) so being able to handle accommodations isn’t an issue. The R&A is super conservative with opening up their rota. The only reason Portrush even got into contention is because Trump bought Turnberry. And the fact it already hosted an Open made it easier for them to justify - at least compared to RCD.
I think it is the general uneasiness of playing the Open in Northern Ireland. This tournament going smoothly bodes well for RCD in the future.
I also wonder if politically being further away from Belfast is what the R&A wants. A bit less likely you’ll see some sort of Troubles-associated act way up on the North Coast where there’s a lot more tolerance in general. Granted, it’s not like it’s still terrible in Belfast. But there are still some crazies out there.
Would have to believe its infrastructure, tho they will cite there already being enough courses in the rota. Dont think County Down has a Rail Station going directly to it, which would be the biggest issue.
They just showed it's 15 over by 7 and 8 and half that on the inland holes. Even so, that's on the low side for places like this if it's soft.
What if Lowry just stood over his ball on the first hole for 5 minutes just to get them put on the clock?
