Took this baby out to the range for the first time. Going to take some getting used to with an extra stiff shaft, larger grip, and heavier shaft but I was surprised at how well I was controlling it. Can’t wait to take it on the course for the first time and get frustrated with it.
Larger grips have been the best thing to happen to my game in a decade. I went with the jumbomax xl's on everything but my putter. I've kinda got bear paws (size 14 foot as well) and a guy I was playing with who is scratch told me that it looked like I was holding pencils in my hands. It's taken so many regrips and wondering about it completely out of the equation. Now, I just get up there, set up, and hit the ball. I've been telling everyone that I know that is working through grip issues to size up.
I just did it for my driver but I loved the feel on the range for the little bit of time I was there. I don’t know if it’s just mental but being a baseball player most of my life, it just felt more natural having the bigger grip.
I definitely need new grips but I am planning to purchase new irons in the not-so-distant future (next 8-12 months) so I am holding off for the moment. Bad decision on holding off?
You can get new grips for something like $4 a piece, maybe a little higher if you have someone else install them. If you truly need new grips and aren’t planning on buying irons for a year then it’s a not too expensive option to prolong the life of your current set

I’ve got to get new grips. My dritacs are beyond embarrassing. Even though i love the feel of the dritacs they just wear out too quickly now that I’m Not getting them at cost anymore.
Was in Ft Myers over the weekend and played 9. First round since November. I couldn't hit a single drive. If I actually hit one decently solid, it was a burner like 15 feet off the ground it seemed. Everything else was like it went straight into the ground. Guessing I was skulling the shit out of it? It's frustrating not knowing how to fix things on the fly. Immediately went to the range after the 9 and hit the first drive really well. Then continued to skull them, with a random good hit mixed in there. Borrowed clubs, was hitting a Burner.
I'm a big fan of Adam Young and his book. Really good insight to understand ball flight and the causes.
I guess I haven't been reading our newsletters, but was pretty shocked to see that this is going down at my club. Excited to see what they produce because we just finished a huge tree removal project.
I can never get enough of this stuff... Website of Golden Ocala where they are playing the LPGA event this week Click on the Murifield link
Golf is a funny game. Played Saturday and I only hit one half decent shot all day. Everything else was terrible. Not getting off the ground, couldn’t get off the tee, etc. Just went to the range and I was striping everything.
Shot a 74 Saturday morning, followed it up with a 91 the next morning at the same course. Went OB off the tee 4 times Sunday and think I only missed 1 fairway Saturday
Its also dumb to me how adamant the sandbagger group I play with is about re-hitting instead of taking a drop when they go OB. I'm always asking why they dont just take distance and go drop in the fairway like the new rule says but old people are stubborn.
Have a guy like that in our group that plays. He’s the guy that’s always talking about people not following the rules when they go OB or in a hazard. He also got onto a guy bc he teed his ball up about 3 inches in front of the tees.
Got a buddies dad that plays with us and always plays the ball up. Loves to text us his scores whenever he plays well and we aren't around and it grinds my gears to no end. I'm on his ass in the first fairway about it anytime I'm playing him in a match.
My favorite lineup is Davis/Hoffman/Hovland/NeSmith/Spieth/Tringale. Have first round leader bets on Kirk, List, Nesmith, Shelton, Burns, Hoffman, Hoag. I think Hovland could run off with this thing by several strokes. My player pool: Rory Hovland Reed Im Spieth Homa Davis Burns Tringale Lanto Hoffman Conners Norlander List Kirk Clark NeSmith Percy Stanley Hoag Shelton
Getting fitted for new everything today, from a top 100 fitter. Pretty excited to start the golf season out like this. Trying to get back to single digits after not playing much the past 5 years.
I want to see someone drive it up the hole that goes along the other side of the lake. Someone mapped it out and with a like a 280 carry drive you would have a wedge into the green
Used to work in a local golf shop, probably regripped thousands of clubs. Just haven’t done it at home before. Unfortunately I’ve moved or i would just go to shop and done it there.
