true dat. if the OWGR thing doesn't go in their favor, it will become increasingly more difficult for them to recruit new talent though imo.
Chase Koepka, who couldn't get starts on the PGA Tour unless except as an enticement to get Brooks to play, is getting top 10's at LIV which is something Brooks can't even accomplish.
In the "big winners" of LIV, I think Koepka and Pat Perez are near the top. Koepka's body is pretty much falling apart and he probably cashed in on $100m guaranteed to finish T33 at LIV events for the rest of his life, and obviously Perez has already made more money on team wins for the 4 Aces than he would in like 2 PGA seasons. If there's any "losers", I'd probably say HV3 and Gooch. HV3 lost a lot of political goodwill and probably isn't going to make a ton more on LIV events than sponsorships + PGA Tour earnings since he probably missed the huge gold rush. Gooch was playing himself into stardom and now nobody really cares on the LIV Tour and rumors were he got a pretty small advance
Gooch is a moron who thought he could play in a LIV event and would be welcome back on the PGA tour the next week.
except that somewhat turned out to be bullshit because he signed a three year deal with LIV before his first tournament. His whole “I was just going to play one” turned out to be not true.
Brooks being ass now makes him taking 9 figures from these people pretty savvy. It’s not like anyone ever mistook him for a moral character.
I have never been to a golf tournament before but have tickets Thursday. Any advice on how to properly enjoy?
Something like the presidents cup is going to be way different I would think. But usually I’ll park on a hole for a bit and watch as many groups as I can and then I’ll pick a group and follow so I see more holes. That’s assuming I don’t have access to a club/suite, otherwise free beer! And I’m going nowhere but with presidents cup, there’s only 5 groups out there and most of them won’t reach 16-18 (which is also I why they rerouted Quail for this week) it’s hard to say what to do. I’d probably try to do the same if I could. But not sure if that works as well
I have been fucking terrible around the greens so I finally bought a 52* wedge. I only play with 8 clubs at a time so I think it'll be a big help. Any suggestions on bag setup? I'm planning on rolling with Driver Hybrid 4i 6i 8i PW 52* Putter
why do you limit yourself? but as to your question, that makes as much sense as anything. I’d question whether you need a hybrid and a 4 but that’s going to based so much on the course and what clubs you hit more often than others.
I use public transportation and carry my clubs, it's very hard, annoying, and limiting, to have a full bag I also really struggle with "analysis paralysis" on the course and have found I'm much better with my irons when I don't have to debate clubs. I'm enjoying my progress with a limited bag besides my struggles from under 100 yards
Tho maybe I should try those clubs cause my irons have been complete dog shit the past couple rounds.
My 7 was always my warm up club. Then got new clubs and my 8 was the same * as my old 7, so now my warm up club is an 8.
I've recently subscribed to the knockdown method of play. Has helped a ton with accuracy. I'm not trying to kill and my swing is much more fluid and relaxed.
I love me a knocked down 50*. Want to start playing around with that in longer irons. Only thing is that it brings the dreaded s-word into play for me.
I thought about trying this, and other approaches to my follow through. Never go to the range and don’t have the confidence to try it on the course. So I stick to my usual BS and just lose all enjoyment during the round, lol.
4/6/8/PW feels like it gives me more options than 5/7/9/PW for some reason even though the latter makes more sense from close range. I hit my 9i and PW closer than any other two clubs in my bag
That seems less than ideal. edit: unless you mean you hit them closer to the pin than anything. I was thinking gapping.
Speaking of gapping, I currently have a 50, 46* PW, 41* 9 and 36* 8. It works ok but I think I’m gonna bend the 50 to 49 and 46 to 45.
You can't fit six more clubs in your bag or is the weight of six more clubs an issue? If you aim to improve you will need every weapon at your disposal, sooner rather than later.
It's just annoying to have a giant bag on a crowded bus so I'm scaling down to a "Sunday bag" and only doing 8 I've been hitting the irons better this way surprisingly. I'm never going to be a scratch golfer
You strike me as a dude who doesn’t choose half measures in life. If this game truly gets it’s hooks in you, you will grind over it like everything else that interests you. Enjoy the chase, whatever it may be.
Anyone wear Peter millar polos? How does the fit compare to other brands like puma, Oakley, footjoy or under armor? (Just the brands I have).
I'm getting geeked up for the President's Cup! I don't care what the actual activity is...when it's those stars & stripes on a uniform vs anything else, I'm all in. Sure, this event could be 100x more interesting and competitive if they made it a mixed gender event but whatever, for now, I'll still watch every second. I'm expecting us to absolutely decimate them no matter how pairings shake out because woof at the International roster. More than anything I'm just happy for Max and want him to play well in this so it hopefully sets up a great chance for him to make a RC team.
I saw it thrown out that President's Cup should be co-ed... The reason why that won't happen (at least as the President's Cup) is because the whole reason it exists is because the PGA Tour saw what the PGA of America was making on the Ryder Cup and wanted their own cash grab. They have no interest in splitting that with the LPGA. I acknowledge that is shortsighted because the opportunity is there to be something greater. Part of the reason Tour is under attack is they always stick with status quo and money in hand.
The problem now is we’ll see how valuable the Pres Cup is going forward without the top international players
It hasn’t truly been competitive in forever. Changing the format entirely was likely needed regardless.
Man they are really stepping up the whining on the OWGR. On one hand, they probably should be included in some form or fashion. On the other, there’s an OWGR process and their outright refusal to follow it shouldn’t be rewarded. You guys knew what you were getting into. Live with it. But I think the new PR blitz is not helping them (arguably my bias creeping in)
