“I was wrong,” Chamblee said on air. “I didn’t think he’d come back with this much speed. I didn’t think his swing would be this good. I didn’t think he’d look this good. I didn’t think his irons would be this good.”

    Two questions still linger...

    - Can he stay healthy?
    - Can he get his short game back in order?

Granted, the tight lies and grain were pretty much the worst conditions for a balky short game this past weekend. Lots of guys chunked a few. But Tiger had 7 scenarios where he missed the green, then needed two shots to get on the green this weekend.

If he can figure that out, he’ll legitimately contend again.

Anyone (IrishLAX2) have a website they use for golf trips? My buddies and I are trying to plan a trip for March and want to check out best deals.

I’ve used Golfbreaks.com before. Have nothing but good things to say about them.

Though if you’re going with a group smaller than 4, it might actually be much cheaper to do it yourself. You need to understand that they’ll upcharge you for booking things for you. So in essence, everything they can do you can likely do yourself without the upcharge. But there’s the convenience of them setting it all up for you that has value. They may also have more access to tee times at places than the average person does, which also has value. So if you have a big group, it makes sense to get some help.

When I go with a couple buddies, we just do it ourselves. It takes more work but we end up saving a lot of money. Once you need to start booking more than one foursome, having a company book it can make things simpler.

Got it -- appreciated. As of now it looks to be about 4 of us so we will look into booking ourselves.

Thinking either the Carolina's or some place in Florida. All of us are younger and want to just try an extended weekend type of trip.

Yes. If the balls are acrylic, don’t bring your good woods. Saw a driver face get caved in. Wasn’t good.

    Otherwise it’s pretty fun.

Done it a few times, was par 3 only with 4s and 5s concerted to par 3s. Pretty cool to have basically live tracer vision of your shots.

A pure long iron is one of the best feelings in the world.

Anybody that loves to golf knows you have almost zero room for any bit of mistake on a long iron. Everything has to be almost perfect and you have to be able to have the clubhead speed to make it work.

    When it does, it's amazing.

I've had plenty of shots get lucky with other clubs in my bag. You never get lucky with a 2-4 iron. You either do good or, most of the time, don't do good. When you hit a great shot with a 3 iron it feels like the moment when the hot girl you have no chance with takes her clothes off.

Yea I had a low piercing 4 that I carried over a creek 215 yards straight into the face of a green sloping towards me with the pin below. Ball ate into the slope and trickled back down. Felt like a million bucks.

Unfortunately haven’t played/don’t think I will play enough to keep my swing consistent with them. Don’t get me wrong they feel phenomenal, and I hit them really well when I play a lot, but I went with JPX 900 Forged to get a little more forgiveness.

Not new, but has been hit less than 50 times. At close examination you can tell it is used but at address it looks new.

It has a Fujikura Speeder 661 stiff shaft (I might have an X flex as well). The loft is adjustable from 7.5 to 11.5. It also has some movable weights to effect launch height and fade/draw.

That is a steal. I might take it if Goose doesn't want it.

    Edit:
Just not sure I could hit the shaft.

Goose has got it. But the 900 is the new version of the 850. There are coming out with a ST180 that I think is a super game improvement driver.

I want to get something else in my hands so bad. I played 9 yesterday and made some really good driver swings with just such limited rewards.

Anyone have experience tipping a driver shaft on the handle end? I found the shaft I am fitted for on ebay for $40 -- tempting to grab it and do a little experimenting, but don't want to deal with the trouble of having to have the adapter removed and tipped from the bottom.

So you need to cut down the ebay one? How much?

Tipping is cutting from the end that connects to the clubhead, which will make the club play stiffer with less torque. Cutting from the butt end really just changes the length. If you were cutting down to like a 42 the weight will likely be off but just an inch or less will be fine.

Was thinking of just taking off an inch or inch and a half off the butt end. I usually choke down some but thought for the price of that shaft I could experiment. It's already an x-stiff so I wont need to worry about flex, and any swing weight that is off I could always add some lead tape.

Played oak hills on that Friday. It’s slightly annoying because they’re tearing up the back nine so the front nine has two pin locations.

I’m a 15 hcp who has really been struggling with my irons. Practiced at the range with presetting my wrist hinge and it worked really well. Walked nine today and used the drill all round on iron shots. Shot a 38 with 5 GIR and two others on the fringe.

Lets see if i can keep it up for another round. I shot an 80 this summer on a decent course I had never played (wild dunes links course) and then went right back to shooting in the 90s like it never happened. Feels good to know my ceiling is pretty good golf, though. Unfortunately, my floor is still pretty bad.
