Glad for him. Especially with the way NBC/golf channel trashed him after the Mexico Open I've been rooting for him to win. It was a little uncalled for.
Played with Knapp on Wednesday in the Pro Am. Was pulling for him. Cool to see Aldrich pull it out after all of those misses.
They basically trashed him for his play most of the final round and then kept going during the postgame. I get it's the the Mexico Open but the kid is 20 and they're saying shit like "that's just not a shot you see on tour" and while it was bad, let's not act like he's the first guy to flub a shot on tour. It really rubbed me the wrong way.
Aldrich is gonna be a double digit tour winner with a major or two sprinkled in. Big upside for corporate sponsorships to latch on to a rising star.
I was playing one of the hardest courses in my area, warmed up like shit at the driving range, then went out and was playing the best round I have ever played. Was looking at a chance to break 80 for the first time. Skies opened up (even though there was a "0% chance of rain" all day) and washed out the back nine :( Hit 7/7 fairways!
By the way, look at this wild hole they have. Par 5 surrounded by marsh on all sides. From the tee box (far left) to get to Point A you need a drive of 230/250 depending on the box. If you have a perfect shot you still have a 176 carry into the wind to skip the third segment and head straight to the green. So for almost everyone it's a really tough game of Frogger
I threw it in quotes for a reason! And while I know there's no such thing as 0%, I don't think I've ever seen a forecast go from that unlikely to rain at all to 2+ hours of torrential rain without a break in sight. The pro shop couldn't believe it either The Gods didn't want me to get a 79 yet
Oh wow, I remember that now. I literally remembered the shot they said that on and went to the Shot Link and verified it. It was on the first playoff hole - he pulled his second shot on a par 5 into a far greenside bunker, then on his third shot, he left the runout well short and they were acting like he was a high schooler. Checked the Shot Link and he was 40 yards away in a bunker and hit it to 19 feet and they were destroying him. That's not awful, tour pros consistently say 40-50 yard bunker shots are some of the hardest shots there are. Good for him
weird that shotlink has it in the bunker, it was definitely in the rough also forgotten: campbell hit the ball like 50 yards OB but it hit a tree and bounced back. he easily played the playoff better
Target golf isn’t for everyone but recently played Sequoyah National in the Great Smoky Mtns, super challenging Mtn golf and the views were incredible. Zoysia fairways and Bent greens that were in awesome shape Only hit driver on 3 holes, a 230-240 yard tee shot is the smart shot on most of the par 4s and 5s. It was a fun and interesting test compared to my normal driver-short iron rounds
Played Rustic Canyon with ZeroPointZero today. My first time around that track, ZPZ used to be a regular so I told him I was definitely going to lean on his local knowledge for help. Ended up shooting 78 with two double bogeys that should've been bogeys. We teed off on 10 (which is the tougher of the nines) so scraped my way to 41 on that side and then shot 37 on the front. My goal was to come in under 80 but it wouldn't have happened without ZeroPointZero essentially acting as a caddie and giving me lines off the tee and advice on approaches. Just a great day in good weather with good company on a fantastic course for 85 dollars. Highlight of the day for me... 6th hole plays 200 on the card but actually was about 188 adjusted. I hit a strong drawing 3 hybrid that left me a severe downhill breaking putt from 30ish feet. Picked a line easily five feet right of the hole and it trickled in for birdie after making an awful double on the previous hole. edit: As mentioned, we started on #10 a 546 yard par 5 from the blues. I step up and pipe one right down the middle, ZeroPointZero hits one 35 yards past me. I wipe a 3W to about 130 in, he hits something leaving himself a hundo. I hit my approach to 16 feet and feeling good. Dude stuffs it to 3 feet. I missed, he made and all I could do was tip my cap. Great start to what was a surprisingly nervous beginning.
i shot 82 but finished with back to back birdies to at least send me off on a high note. I think I had approximately -17 strokes gained off the tee and couldn’t stop missing right into hazards if my life depended on it. I hit 3 on the first nine, plus another one OB. Most weren’t even that egregious of misses either which made it even more frustrating. Big time bummer considering I shot 75 and 74 at the Muni this weekend, was hoping the momentum would continue but Rustic is an entirely different animal. Still my favorite place to play. fish on the other hand was a generational driver of the ball moving it right to left on damn near every starting line I pointed out for him. He would be a GOAT scramble partner as you can set your watch to him keeping the drive in play for the group.
I'm hoping the next time him and I link up we’ll get to play his old home course Santa Anita to complete a true “home & home” scenario. It really was an awesome day out there, even if one of the guys paired with us looked like a poor man’s version of Charles Barkley at his worst
Chuck can stripe it now apparently, but I get what you mean I look forward to more updates from your journey. But eventually want to see you guys scramble
Played at Aviara in Carlsbad a few weeks. Beautiful resort course. Picked a bad time for me to play my worst round in years. View attachment 263582
I am not good at golf but I like to play. I played in our Wednesday game last night and I accidentally hit the wrong ball. My tee shot hit a tree and came right down I thought. After I hit my shot I saw another ball just past the tree and didn’t think twice. When I got to my next shot I noticed it wasn’t my ball because it had a line on it. So I went back and apologized. The guys ball that I hit was in a match, and so they both were so pissed at me. I was in the rough on my hole his ball would have been in a hole over. The reaction after i apologized was insane to me, and i am friends with these two guys. Also the balls were both titleist 4s. ( I shouldn’t be hitting titleist but I digress). Really discourages me. I was in the wrong but damn I just didn’t expect that type of reaction. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Dudes get so unnecessarily aggro on the golf course. I wouldn’t sweat it bc they were in the wrong imo. An honest mistake if you had the same brand and numbered ball. That’s why I buy unique numbered balls (24 of course) and put more marks on my ball than I’d generally prefer. Would rather play an ugly ball that I know I can’t miss than a good looking one that might be ripe for getting scooped up or hit accidentally.
Yea it’s so wild. I offered to pay the loser of the match entry fee after I saw how pissed they were. I had a different ball to start the round ( I alway do that when I play in the game) but I hit into the pond on 3 holes earlier. So I just got a new one out of my bag and it wasn’t unique.
What a bunch of bitches, outrageous behavior. Mistakes happen, if someone is owning it then move the fuck on like big boys
especially if the only mark on the ball was an alignment line. You’re playing the most popular golf ball brand on the planet with a default number and you don’t put any type of mark by the number or Titleist logo? You’re kind of asking for it at that point
And I would have noticed if I rolled it. But everyone is so serious and play the ball as it lies. I just saw the 4 and the tree and moved on. I am self conscious when playing, so I play fast because it takes me a few more strokes then the others I don’t like to hold people up. It just pisses me off because I want to be able to play and gamble a little and not care about the winning or losing just the fun. But when dude have to be that serious fuck that.
Since you played the wrong ball, the guy in the match simply replaces his ball once you pointed it out and they play on without penalty. What could they possibly be so pissed about? Fuck them
Agree and that’s what I did. I went back right to where it was, which I knew because of the tree. When I was apologizing the other guy wouldn’t even look at me. He was so mad at me. So when the round was over I just went to the locker room grabbed my work pants and left. 10 minutes later they both started texting me. “Where did you go?” “We werent really mad at you we were just in a tense match”. I just responded that I went home, I felt bad that I made them mad and just didn’t want to be around people as they talked shit about me in the clubhouse. And to clarify, when I say they are my friends. They are my friends on the course not guys I hang out with anywhere else.
He probably could've given himself a better lie/line with his free drop too. He was helped in this situation and ruined a friendship over it
Hit 6/7 fairways today. Also ended up in greenside bunkers on 8/9 holes. The one i didn't end up in, rolled through and ended up with a 6ft birdie put, which I promptly missed. Fuck this game.
