We're -9 through the first 18 and leaders in the clubhouse so far. I eagled #18 by myself. We got a bogey on #7 (our finishing hole) which really pissed me off. There's apparently some sort of Calcutta auction to buy teams so we'll have to spend to keep our team. This is all a fundraiser but the winning team splits around $1800.
I'm out here working. I'm positive we crossed paths. I rode out and watched Spanks and Jimmy play a couple of holes
Finished up early and headed over to my old course for a quick round. 38/42 on punched greens. Last hole hit it to 5 feet and it bounced 6 times on the way to the hole
42/38. Best round of my life. Earned every stroke including a lost ball rehit triple on the only par 5 on the back.
Took my new irons out to pop their cherry at Iron Horse in KC. Shot a 46 on the front thanks to some exceptionally shitty putting, but the irons acquitted themselves well for their first time out. The hybrid is going to take some work though. That thing is alien to me.
You're probably hitting it like a fairway wood instead of hitting it like an iron. Not being sarcastic. Hth.
Finished day one in our Ryder Cup style match yesterday. Our team has a two point lead going into singles. My partner and I got smoked in the 2-man best ball match and had two chip in for birdie on 18 to halve our 2-man scramble match. We shot a scrambled 66. 8 matches today. I tee off at 10 AM.
What's the easiest way to take a video on iPhone and post it here? Need some feedback to bring down my 25 handicap.
Oh I know. Same thing the pro advised me of when I got fitted. Just going to take time to actually master it.
Take away may have been too steep but hard to tell from that angle. I would try to flatten your backswing until you hit a hook and then start adjusting the angle until it straightens out. Obviously something you will need to work out on the range.
I've been struggling lately in tournaments to get out of the mid 70's. Granted these are typically courses with rating at like 76+ playing under tournament pressure with tougher pin placements but it sapped some of the joy out of golf just grinding out 74s. Been playing the white tees at my home course recently. Takes a 7200 yard 76 rating to like 6200 and 72.0 rating (laughable should be like 70) that I can make tons of birdies on. It's nice not to have 6 iron into every par 4 and to play holes where I can just blow driver over trouble. Goal is to shoot 64 or better before moving to blues then back to tips. Shot 69 first attempt and 66 today. Made just one par on the five par 5s and a lone bogey misclubbing on a par 3. Much more fun too, tee off super late and just fly around in under 2 hours.
Played an easy ass course this morning (6200 yards 69/123 Rating) 39-38 with 4 birds. Only hit 1 F/R but the misses weren't as bad as they normally are... Still had clean looks at the flag and the rough wasn't too thick. Made about a half mile worth of putts. Probably hitting the flat stick the best I have in my life. Don't think I had a round in the 70s last year. Feels good to get one before football season
Doing a little projection and Thoros of Beer is gonna clip me for the W this week if Reed outplays Keegan by 7 shots or more. Currently Reed is at -3, Keegan at +2. Get it together, Bradley.
We won our Ryder Cup today 32.5-31.5. That shit was so much fun. I won my individual match 4-0 this morning and shot 78 in the process. Holed out from 175 for eagle on the par 5 12th. It was a good day.
This was our hardware for winning. Warning: some of my friends are huge Auburn fans, hence the Cup name. Still a great time and a great format.
They did a Nassau scoring format and gave 2 points for winning the overall. I wasn't a big fan of it, but it worked out. We played three different formats fore three matches, and they wanted to try and keep everybody competitive for as long as possible.
From the final score, sounds like it worked. Would be awesome to participate in something like that. Congrats.
After talking to you about the shanks last week, I got them on the range this morning. Every iron was right or way right. I'm pretty sure I hit one like McAvoy across the range tees. Then I get on the first hole and shank one into the hazard. Ended up scrambling for bogey on the first hole and figured it out on #2. But it was a miserable/scary feeling going into a match knowing you're shanking everything on the range.
Thanks! It was a blast. Came down to the final match. One of our players made a birdie on 17 to go dormie. They split the front and that putt put him up 1 with 18 left. He didn't know it at the time, but it ended up being a huge putt because he bogeyed 18 to halve the match.
Good work! The course I'm a member at has the same type of thing. There's 10 different qualifier tourneys spread throughout the golf season plus the 4 "majors" (Member-Guest, Match Play, Club Championship, Member-Member) for you to earn points to qualify for the Ryder Cup type event. It's a hell of a good time.
Each qualifier event has 10 possible points for each group. Majors a possibility of 15. The qualifiers are all a different format to keep things fresh. If you beat the other people in your group that day then there is a "playoff" for all of the group winners immediately following the round. Basically all of the winners tee off on hole 1 again (usually 10-14 guys) and lowest score gets an automatic qualifying spot in the Ryder Cup. So there are potentially 14 total automatic qualifiers for the Ryder Cup then the rest of the qualifiers are the highest points guys left on the list. The top 2 overall points guys at the end of the season are the Captains and they get to draft the teams. I'm trying to be a captain. Currently 4th overall in points with 1 qualifier and 1 major (Member-Member) left.
Riverside. Would give it a couple months before going out there. $37 for that place is robbery. Greens are bad. Bunkers are cement tier.
