Makes me shake my head every time I see the projected scoreboard going into East Lake. It would obviously take a lot, but it looks like if Tiger is able to sneak his way in he'll be just inside the 30 spot meaning he'll start at even. How quickly will the Tour change up the playoff format if Tiger started at even and has the best gross score, but this format prevents him from getting number 82?
It’s so dumb. I get what they’re trying to do but there has to be a better way. During the broadcast yesterday one of the announcers said they love the new format because it gives anyone in the field a shot to win so crazy things can happen. No chance someone is making up 10 strokes on Brooks
This is the dumbest thing ever. If you want the person who wins the tournament to win the whole thing then just make the purse of this event 15 million dollars.
It seems like they're confused on what they really even want it to be. They call it a season long race for the cup, but then these playoff events largely distort how guys have played all season (Reed being second is a joke if we're comparing seasons). The Wyndham Rewards makes sense to have it be a season long race but then if they want the winner at East Lake to also be the FedEx Cup winner, it would make sense to start with a clean slate in the playoffs or have each event build off the last to see who has the actual best playoffs. The cash distribution is way off base too. $2MM for first place at the end of the regular season, but then $15MM for winning at East Lake is insane. In a way though that makes sense and more similar to other playoffs; the team who has the best regular season isn't guaranteed to win the playoffs and become national/World/whatever champion.
Networks don't want to roll the dice on that. Two primary concerns for them....1) you get a final of something like Adam Hadwin vs Patrick Cantlay. Sure they are good players but the casual golf fan has no idea who they are. 2) The finals and even the semi's are blowouts. I understand this one moreso than the first point. It's not exciting watching a match dominated by one player ultimately ending in a 5 & 3 result.
Watching a single pairing of match play is super painful too because there’s so much downtime between shots.
Sure, it definitely has some pitfalls. Make it so that match play isn't straight up knockout like it is at the Am, that way there are still matches going on to sort out the remaining places to finish overall. This would be similar to how the brackets work in the NCAA wrestling finals, losers continue to play so that you are able to place people 1-32 or however many you go with. I don't think I necessarily buy point 2 as much as point 1. A match being dominated by one side shouldn't be a concern because even if one does end early, you should have all these other matches still in play
It also sucks for the corporate partners/sponsors when there’s only action on one hole and the VIP sections are just sitting around waiting for the match to arrive
With this week being worth 2000, like half the field still has a chance to pass Brooks. I don't care for the 2000 points thing. Someone posted it but Rory has had an amazing year and read passes him with one win.
Watching the US AM. I apologize to our Mississippi posters but I'm pulling for the kid from your state to lose in the worst ways. I just can't cheer for a kid named Cohen Trolio.
mal630 do you do many wedge fittings? What are your thoughts on the stock Vokey shafts vs matching the shaft with the irons? I have C Taper Lites in my irons and like the heavier feel in my two Vokey shafts, just curious what kind of differences there could be, especially in some of the wedge specific shafts out there like KBS makes
I'm not good at golf but I've improved lately...except on the green. Only play casually. Have a Bocciere Heavy putter and the grip is shot. Looking at the Oddyssey White Hot 2.0. Thoughts?
If you like your current putter, you can get a new grip for just a few bucks. Even someplace like dicks has a bunch of different kinds and will install them.
Longest tenured putter I've had. I always talk about looking at getting a new one but everytime I do, go out and have a great putting day to change mind
That guy appears to be nuts. He has one tweet about Brooks and the rest are about some invention to prevent rapes.
This course/set up is trash. Course record has been broken back to back days and there are a few more guys that would have broken it.
What's everyone hit here for drivers? I hit an old as hell Cleveland Hibore and am thinking about an upgrade.
I gamed a Cleveland Classic for 7 years before getting a new driver this year. It is/was a great club. Now gaming the Ping G400 LST w/ Kuro Kage Silver Dual Core shaft
G400 Max with an Even Flow Blue. Upgraded to it from a Titleist 913 and it’s been night and day for me. Messed around with a G410 and liked it a lot as well
Had a g400 max that I really liked. Beat it to hell and had a chance to trade even for a new Cobra F9. Both are great. Cobra is only like 299.
