Spoiler Yes. Rhaenys single-handedly battles the two of them and their dragons and ends up burnt to a crisp
Which is why not including this dumb scene would have made a ton more narrative sense. It felt like dipshit tv writers trying for a viral social media moment and justifying it after the fact with the weak-ass “she didn’t want to do that to another mother” rationalization.
It was 100% the showrunners decision to have her escape in the middle of Aegon’s coronation, kill 100 people in doing so and put her in a position to end the war. They should’ve left that dumbass scene out of the episode but they needed a big scene in their penultimate episode (their words, not mine). It was dumb as hell.
It’s like when Drogon melted the Iron Throne after Jon killed Dany instead of killing Jon. Except this was dumber. Why not have her attempt to kill but being forced to flee due to a volley of arrows?
a lot of people will bitch about there not being anyone likable on the show but man, if you're Team Green you're just the worst kind of person. no secret love child and wedding here, they're straight up usurpers.
If you book nerds wanna spoil stuff, there should be a Fire & Blood book thread, don't bring future stuff here as this is very clearly about the show It can be difficult to tell what's marked as a spoiler from the episode that just aired and what's coming down the road.
Not only that - they’re making the Rhaenyra much more likeable than she is in the book Also - i need to sleep on it, but this is the first ep I really hated the changes/ choice of direction from the book.
Where is that established? I must have missed it. The show is called House of the Dragon and so is this thread, so you can see why it might be confusing. It would be easier if there was a show thread and a book thread just like GoT/ASOIAF.
Originally there was just one thread but then someone broke off and made a tv only thread and this one just kind of became the defacto book thread. It's not really labeled as such though unfortunately.
I've enjoyed what they've done with Alicent, really seems like she's been getting pulled in multiple directions this whole season, she's been great. I loved that this entire episode was about the Greens with the exception of Rhaenys. They're probably going to make Alicent and Rhaenyra better people than they were in the books just because viewers tend to need someone to cheer and/or empathize with as they watch. It's a lot easier to write a book where everyone is a jerkoff, making a show is hard. the men of this show, next season especially, turn into even bigger pieces of shit than they are now and nobody is going to like any of them.
I updated the thread title. I too keep going back and forth between the two threads which is probably just my own fault.
I knew this episode was gonna be on some bullshit when this happened. The idea that they’d have some super secret treason plan in place ready to go as soon as the king died but wouldn’t either bring in the Lord Commander or have a plan to deal with him if he wouldn’t go along is just stupid. Just another example of them not sweating the details of the story in exchange for presumed drama and spectacle. The same shit that plagued season 7&8. This was easily my least favorite episode of the season so far. the next episode will probably be as good as any we’ve seen so far based on what we know is coming, but for the love of God I hope they go into the season 2 writing room understanding that these huge moments won’t land the same if they’re not working to make them make sense.
I enjoyed the episode a lot and I am able to enjoy the final scene (beware the beast beneath the boards). But the explanation of it by the show runner was lame. Like D&D season 8 level terrible reasoning.
Spoiler: Book stuff questions Are the 3 dragon eggs Elissa stole that were “just stones” the same ones dany gets in GoT? man the sea snake is a badass in the book and the show doesn’t do him much justice. Show didn’t do a good job portraying just how much overwhelming support viserys got compared to the valarins at the council
So, in next week’s preview - that is Vhagar at storm’s end right? I am assuming they’ll end at Spoiler Luke dying and jace showing up in winterfell? Maybe luke dying as the final scene?
isn’t the sea snake getting his own show? and I think you are correct regarding the eggs. Think that is widely accepted as the most reasonable explanation. Also, there is a possible connection between those two people you mentioned. I prefer the MF is Quaithe theory in my head.
Well for one, Selmy didn’t quit, he was fired (which was seen as one of Cersei’s many blunders). He also wasn’t privy to the small council’s treason plan that they were actively trying to keep secret. Even still, when they knew Selmy wasn’t going to quietly retire, they sent gold cloaks after him. He had to kill them and escape the city.
Yeah I guess it is different. But KG is for life. I don’t think the show showed BS having to escape just him saying he’d cut through joffrey’s KG like cake or something and walking out
The funniest thing about last night is that Larys just blows a load into his cloak, leaves and presumably walks around in his own splooge. Lmao. Also funny - it took me way too long to realize what was happening. At first when Alicent was taking her shoes off and putting her feat up, i thought It was a bit of a power play. You’re not worthy of me being so formal around you. Then when she took the stockings off.. i was like ohhhhh. I am Dumb
no clue about sea snake. I basically just got to thhe death of jhanerys (Alicent was bathing his ass too). I decided to stop reading until the end of the season. But tbh few parts about the sea snake and I’m like damn he was a badasss but get the show doesn’t show that well.
All that badassery was before the events of the show. But I do think the show does a good job of presenting how much of a legend he is, and what an enormous reputation he has.
Otto Hightower is a detestable character. all the cunning and ruthlessness of Tywin Lannister with none of the charisma or gravitas.
Seemed like early on he really wasn't that bad but he's definitely become a massive cunt here lately.
What skill level we talking for the two brother KGs that are jumping ship to team Targ? Between them and Daemon do we have a pretty badass trio of swords?
Yea I didn't ask if how and when they die in the books just are they some reasonably good fighters or not. I don't need any other information whatsoever, ie - if they don't end up joining team targ or any of that.... don't see how my question could result in spoilers unless someone responds with a lot of extra information I didn't ask for. Figured this was the thread to ask about their talent level
Storm's End is the house seat (castle) of House Baratheon. Or were you looking for why Storm's End is important for this show?
Not really without spoilers. Other than it's a major house and seat. It's proximity to King's Landing makes it even more important to get them on your side. So when they mentioned House Baratheon is a maybe - it's important to win them over.
Some further context - Rhaenys' mother was a Baratheon, so on top of her blessing on behalf of Corlys, it would have gone a long way to get the Baratheons too. That's why getting her on board was so important.
Ill just pass on this as I don’t know how good they are at fighting to be honest. I was referring to another part of your original post
