The bar itself was whatever and the food wasn't great, but the scenery was pleasant for a random Tuesday in February and you, in particular, would have liked our waitress.
Thr food there doesn't do much for me and the clientele has always been douchey. Your description of the waitress makes me want to give it another chance, though.
Next time you're in Royal Oak for a night out, hit up Vinotecca/Bastone/Monk.
I don't expect to be back in Royal Oak anytime soon.
Is Cherry Wine any good? I always see it up north and in TC. What's the best Cherry Wine brand?
Grew up in Wapakoneta, OH. Have lived in the Cbus metro area since college in 2000. Currently live in New Albany, but the wife and I close on a new house in northern Westerville next month.
"Run For Your Life, Honkey"
Y'all been Fowling yet?
See the name for location. Went to Ferris, used to stay in Fenton a lot.
Woodrow, StinkusP1nkus: Have either of you eaten at Kruse & Muer on Main in downtown Rochester? The ornate wood carving above the door has me intrigued.
I wouldn't say it's good, especially if you are looking for wine. That said, it makes damn good sangria. Mix a bottle with some ginger ale, some brandy, some fruit...and that shit is on point.
None, they pimp the fruit wine to tourists. Season is too short for really good reds up there, but they do whites really well.
Tall Ship Chardonnay, Trillium and Black Star Sauvignon Blanc were three of my go to ones. Anything from L. Mawby is awesome, is all sparking wine, but is amazing. Tandem has the best cider in the area. Old Mission has the better tasting rooms and 2 lads has probably the best reds, but they are pricy.
If you're set on a sweet fruit-based wine, Icebox Apple from Gill's Pier or Black Star Cherry Wine. Adding to that, if you can get your hands on some Ice Wine, it's worth trying. Small batches and expensive, save some grapes into the fall and harvest them after the first frost to make it.
My buddy has had a UofM-themed fowling set that we use when tailgating. It is a blast. Never been to that place.
I can't fuck with white wine. Too sweet for my refined palate.
Grand Haven here. Please dont visit during May, and then from mid August till the end of Sept. Those are the only times the locals have left.
Is it true that every teenager from Grand Haven does hard drugs, or just most?
It's a tremendous restaurant.
The right sauvignon blanc can be a delightful pairing with with certain lighter entrees. Although I'd suggest one from the Marlborough region of New Zealand over one from Leelanau County.
Any time I hear or read the word 'tremendous' it makes me think of a Donald Trump speech
Yes, they have good pizza. Their other stuff is hit and miss. Not bad, maybe a tad overpriced. My favorite places in downtown Rochester are Kabin Krusers (if you like seafood) and Sumo Sushi. Kabin Krusers is the same restaurant group as Kruse and Muer but they have better food/atmosphere for the price, imo.
Fuck New Zealand, they are still raking in that Lord of the Rings money. Buy local.
I remember my roommate in college came back to our dorm room and said "that chick from Grand Haven on the 2nd floor just pulled my pants down and started sucking my dick in front of her roommate"
That's all I got about people from Grand Haven.
Grew up in Grand Haven, surrounded by Fruit port and Fairysburg.
Family gathering for a landmark birthday.
Haha, I would say there is some truth to that. Pretty affluent community with lots of teens with disposable income and lots of freedom...
Is your replacement hip turning 50, old man river?
Used to hang with a few girls from Spring Lake way back when. Fun crew.
Will anybody be going to the Winter Beer Festival this weekend? I am going Saturday. There are like 8 million beers to try which will probably be very overwhelming. I think my strategy will be to hit the small lines/try new stuff. Guessing the lines at the Founders/Bells tents won't even be worth it.
You should try all 8 million.
Yeah, had a great time.
Livonia checking in. I've gone from Wyoming -> Byron Center -> Macomb -> East Lansing -> Macomb -> Detroit ->Royal Oak -> Livonia. I'll be moving back to Macomb as soon as possible. I actually lived at 11 and Campbell in RO but that was like a year and a half ago.
Which street? I'm on Kenwood, just moved here in July
I was on Edgeworth
I went last year. Spent about 15 tokens at the Rochester Mills tent. The lines in the Bells tent froze, so they ended up being a bust. Pretty sure it was them anyway. Thats all I really remember. Oh and if it sounds like it could be nasty, it will be nasty. learned that the hard way with some red pepper beer.
Same. Way harder than it looks. And you have to watch out for all the other footballs bouncing around from other lanes. I went on a Friday night. Which I would not recommend at all. Place was packed and had to wait for lanes. Good place to go during the week. Watch a game, drink and play.
It's nice that you can bring your own food in. My fiance and I and 4 other couples reserved a lane, and it wasn't busy so we ended up playing on 2. I thought I was going to go in there and dominate and was humbled real quick.
Having gone to the one in Columbus last weekend, I'll give you the advice of not eating a big dinner beforehand. This seems like it may be bad advice, but all of us had a full/bloated feeling within the first half hour. A better option might be, which I saw a ton of people do this, is make a necklace out of a shoelace, and thread it full of pretzels. Snack on a pretzel or two after every beer. Also works well to cleanse the palate. Also, I recommend trying at least a sip of one of the sour beers, just so you can taste how terrible they are.
They have great bread. If you like seafood, you'll probably find something you like there.
Well I think you should stop in and say hi on your way through.
Coming up 75. Easier to say hi to herb.burdette than you.
I can be there with him waiting for you. Inlaws on cinci
Sounds great. Will be rolling thru Cinci about 6am on Thursday. We'll grab a beer.
I didn't know you were in Oakland County. Used to live near Adams High School.
I'll waive to you while I pass you in the right side lane on I-75 north.
I think I'm the lone GR resident since CZA moved a few years back.
Flipping me the bird?
No, only if you have Michigan plates on your car.
Who's doing Opening Day this year?
