I was just joking, he's just the only one whose name I've heard heard at this point due to all his damn commercials.

Closed on the place in Berkley today & move in tomorrow. Adios, racist-ass-hillbilly-fucking-dogshit-Livingston-County!
How was this? Would you recommend? Any other thoughts form the scUM/Fartans fans? I'm sure Torch Lake is a "touristy" type of place but I'm just looking for something different to do here in the next few months. Things I enjoy: water, kayaking, dogs, craft beers, pelicans, recruiting, pretty much all food
Northern Michigan is a great place to check out during the summer. Torch Lake is stunning. However, there are a lot of little cities up there that have fun downtowns.
I go every year... definitely worth the trip. It is not touristy. Touristy I guess would be staying in downtown Traverse City. You would have fun bouncing around different towns in Northern Michigan. A lot of good breweries as well.
I have a convention at Crystal Mountain at the end of July then right after taking a week vacation in Elk Rapids. Cannot fucking wait, love it up there that time of year
Access to northern Michigan during the summer is one of the reasons I am moving to Chicago from the east coast. Looking forward to having that location as an option for summer excursions this year.
We used to stay on Elk Lake when I was younger which is right next to Torch Lake. We stayed on Grand Traverse Bay 2 summers ago in Elk Rapids. Both were really nice but I liked Elk Lake a little more. Elk Rapids is a pretty cool area and it's a short drive from all the things you'd want to do. We went to the Short's and Hop Lot breweries when I was up there. Both of them were good. I thought the food was better at Short's, but I actually liked the beer better at Hop Lot.
Cool. We are in the early stages of figuring out where to stay exactly. No clue exactly what towns or areas to look into exactly but all of it looks pretty cool based on what I've seen.
I'm staying in a town called Bellaire. Apparently it's like 2-3 miles from Short's Brewery and less than ten minutes from Torch Lake.
Tried to go there yesterday actually and it was closed, went to Chomp instead. I moved downtown last Winter and have been trying to hit up everywhere now that it's nice out.
Lipumas is great, but cash only. Can’t go wrong with any of the restaurants downtown either. Never been to Chomp
I got married at the Lakeview Hotel at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire. Great brunch spot on the weekend. Had lunch at Short's the day we got our marriage license - it's downtown Bellaire and also excellent. Our rehearsal dinner was at the... wait for it... Blue Pelican Inn. About 10 miles north of Bellaire. It was great at the time, but I think it might have new owners and can't vouch for it now. Awesome area for lake activities and an easy drive to Traverse City, Charlevoix, Sleeping Bear Dunes and other great spots. Lovely part of the state; you'll have a great trip.
Caught my first King Salmon out of Lake Michigan today! Went out of the Pentwater harbor, about 30 mins off the shore. Growing up in Alaska, I caught more salmon than I can remember, but I've never caught a freshwater salmon out of Lake Michigan. Felt great again to see that pole hit and the line run. Took about 25 mins to get the fish into the boat, put up a good fight and it was just under 18 pounds. First time to Pentwater as well, a hidden gem of Michigan. Great inland lake with a channel out the big lake. Nice little downtown with some good restaurants and bars. Don't go there, no need for it to get any busier.
My only concern is that some of the Torch Lake shit I'm reading is making it sound like you'll want to have a boat. I do not have a boat and don't plan on renting one or anything when I'm up there.
I met Cliff Robinson at the Antler a couple years ago, apparently he's a regular up there. We used to go up there every year until it just became a weekend for my MiL and my wife's aunts and uncles to get hammered and cause multiple "scenes" and make us loathe going there. Nice little town for sure.
I'd bet you'll end up at Shorts multiple times, they've got great food/drinks/atmosphere. I've never been on Torch Lake, though I have heard it's gets nuts on the sand bar, supposedly a spring break esque vibe. I'm sure you'll have a great time. If you need some weed for medicinal purposes of course, my cousin just built a grow operation up there called Cherry Bud Farms.
Torch Lake is great and the sandbar is a blast. That said, you dont need a boat, but it is obviously better. Torch Lake doesnt connect to Lake Michigan so it kinda sucks that you cant take day trips to other sweet ass beach towns. You can definitely walk out to the sandbar with a floating cooler and booze all day. Fourth of July wk/wknd after will be nuts, but other than that it will more low key. If you dont feel like parking and walking out to the sandbar you could hit up Dockside in Alden for a bit. That is a bar/restaurant right on Torch. Sit outside and enjoy.
Sweet. We are going Aug. 9-13 so not sure how crazy it will be. Probably will rent a kayak one day. Dockside, Shorts, and obv Blue Pelican are all on my early list of places to check out.
Rent a pontoon, you can go from the docks at Shorts to the Torch Lake sand bar all via lakes and rivers in a little over an hour
Moving back and will be living in MI again for the first time since graduating college. I’m leaving Colorado/the west... help me cope please
