According to the US Census Bureau, Detroit’s population increased last year - the first time it has increased since 1957. It is now the 26th largest city in the US (up from 29th). In the 1950s it was the nation’s 4th most populous city. When Mike Duggan was ejected mayor in 2013, he said this during his victory speech - pretty incredible it happened:
For all of the Michigan bros (and anyone else with a Meijer nearby): They have a hell of a deal going on for the latest AirPods Pro’s (2nd Gen USB-C) until Sunday. You should see an $80 off coupon at the link below. I think you need to have an MPerks account and be logged in, and it’s store pickup or Meijer home delivery only (so no shipping if you don’t have a Meijer nearby, basically). Also, for whatever reason, when I clipped the coupon below, I didn’t actually see the savings applied until I also added the “SHOP15” promo code as well, which saves you another $15. So $95 off total and final price of $154.00 (before taxes). https://www.meijer.com/shopping/product/airpods-pro-2nd-gen-usb-c/19594905248.html
Well that’s fucked up. Are they sold out? Try pickup at a different location. I got mine in Petoskey, which is probably low traffic compared to everywhere else, so I can see lots of stores being out.
Was just a bad shooting in Rochester Hills at the Brooklands splash pad about a half hour ago. Was at Culvers waiting on some healthy food and cops were streaming by...like 20 cars total just when I was int he drive thru Start driving and the entire Brooklands sub on Auburn is blocked off Active shooter might still be loose...have seen conflicting reports
The shooting suspect died by suicide after being "contained" at a Shelby Township home for several hours following the attack,
Who is currently without power? I’ve survived so far but everyone west of my block is currently without power.
Power is on in Ferndale, although it went out just long enough to have to reset all the stupid clocks. Our AC stopped working on Tuesday and it got to 83+ in the house, which sucked. Thankfully, it was up and running again within 24 hrs.
Our power went out for like 30 seconds on Monday, but we’re good since then. Getting the new AC last summer is definitely paying off this week.
Price escalation in HVAC the last few years has been nuts. I spent $35k, but for dual systems. Got a BIL in the biz. He ended up specing Rheem and it has absolutely changed the comfort level in the house both during heating and cooling seasons.
I’m determined to suffer through this summer with my somewhat functioning unit and then will probably pay 40k next year
Both my systems were like 35 yo...tho still functioning, they were crazy inefficient. BIL was selling his company and retiring very soon, so it was time to get ahead of it.
Matheson Heating, Air and Plumbing out of Commerce. It was 20k less than that quote and financed through Carrier for 18 months. My house isn’t small and we got new Carrier HVAC system: AC, furnace, etc. A buddy just did his 3,000+ sq ft house for like $13k in West Bloomfield a couple months ago with another company. $34k is insane.
That's just too simplistic. Massive differences in HVAC system pricing based on capacity needs (volume rather than SF and adjusted for sf of glass on the house), SEER rating, technology (single-stage vs two-stage vs continuous), and need to replace ductwork. For example, my first quote was a good manufacturer (Lennox), but was underspeced by a ton, two-stage, and contemplated reusing my terrible 30yo leaky flexible ductwork that could barely transport air from one end to the other. It was over $40k... $10k more if I wanted new rigid ductwork. That's when I called my BIL and got a real quote.
Ductwork would certainly be a big added expense. My company also didn’t recommend a 2 stage (or more), because I have a couple hard to cool rooms and they felt a workhorse single stage would work the best at keeping those rooms cool. They basically a just pulled the old equipment out, installed the new equipment, and fixed some small things. If I wanted to add zoning or another system upstairs it would have certainly gotten been on the 30s or 40s. At the same time, it’s very possible the quote Lip got was from a guy who decided he could charge more in that area code and worked it up real nice. I got this guy: Carrier Performance 16 SEER 1-Stage Air Conditioner (24SPA6)
Im pretty sure I could install my own for that, including paying for HVAC trade school and fixing all the screw ups I had.
my house doesn’t have ducts so I think it fucks me that I have what is called a UNICO system that will need replacing soon thinking about just putting mini splits all over the house and making it hideous inside
Probably don’t have to replace HVAC for a couple of years (I hope) but had 3 quotes to to replace our roof and they were so vastly different that I had to call all of them and make sure we were talking about the same services. Literally a range of 15k to 30k for essentially the exact same process. I’m convinced half of these places are just throwing out random numbers and hoping to get a bite.
Going to a Sunday wedding in Charlevoix this weekend and it’s looking like we are gonna blasted severe weather. Serves them right.
There is both a dump and a pigs farm near the highway in coopersville. Yes that part of the highway always smells
Back for the first time in 2 years. Currently on pace to break personal records of cannabis inhaled(the prices are insane, I haven't seen my dollar go this far since I was in Eastern Europe 20+ years ago) and online poker buy ins. You all do not know how lucky you are.
Working from the lake today so we could drive up yesterday and beat traffic. I think my work day will end right around the time the clouds disappear.
I need to get a lake spot...really the one thing I'm missing for the #Puremichigan experience. Heading out to Omaha and Minneapolis for some zoo shit
In my best Scblue voice… Been WFH from Lake Tahoe since last Thursday. Beautiful weather and it’s been pretty quiet. Did run into Zuck and his family at West Shore Market yesterday, so I’d guess the onslaught of Bay residents for the holiday weekend is now upon us.
Christ looks like they are calling for almost 2 inches of rain around here Tuesday night through Wednesday. I assume it won’t be that bad but basements will be flooding (please not mine)
