It was really fucking packed last year when I went on Saturday or Sunday night. Going up North so I wont be attending this year. Took a look at the bands performing. HIGHLY suggest Laith Al-Saadi. Dude can play some fantastic guitar. Puts on a really stellar show.
Just got back from a quick weekend trip. Grabbed a couple pounds of kielbasa from Frank's on the west side of GRap. So good. Frank's is the best.
Have power, lost cable/internet for most of yesterday, but it came back last night. No power at work.
Any of you guys worked with Lombardo Homes by any chance? Wife and I are thinking of building with them.
So sad that blinded by the magnificence of the sunset, he stumbled into one of our many beautiful lakes and drowned.
Sup Heading to Detroit for the first time. Staying in Greektown. Aside from the casino what else should I do
Going there on the wknd of 8/18. Golf in the AM at Arcadia on Friday and Forest Dunes on Saturday. Sandbar in the afternoon.
Looks like the only day this weekend the sandbar will work out weather wise is Saturday. Will be making the annual trip to Crossroads on Friday night.
Eat at Selden Standard and then stumble over to Old Miami after. I also enjoyed my meal at Chartreuse. It looks like you're from Miami so it probably doesn't compare but Vicente's is a fun Cuban restaurant downtown. You should also check out Motor City Wine -- it's a hipster wine bar with a great selection of wines priced very reasonably. What kind of spots do you like?
Detroit's a pretty good place to do it. Recommendations I've seen so far are good, can't go wrong with any of them. Don't venture North of 8-mile, nothing worthwhile up there. Here are the mandatory stops: 1. Lafayette Coney Island - lunch, get a coney dog with everything. 2. Loui's Pizza (Hazel Park) - go to Buddy's if you must stay in the city, but Loui's is my favorite Detroit style pizza My recommendations by area: Eastern Market - This is a good area to check out on a weekend morning, huge open air market. Early-mid stages of redevelopment at this point, but there's definitely some cool stuff happening there. Trinosophes - coffee/breakfast, one of the more underrated (and my favorite) spots in the city. Inner State - Art gallery usually has an exhibition worth checking out Stache International - Great place for lunch, get the house made bologna sandwich if you go Detroit City Distillery - good spirits and cocktails Cutter's - Some of the better burgers in the city Antietam - nice restaurant for a dinner, beautiful room and atmosphere with good food and good cocktails Midtown - this was one of the first areas to redevelop. Wayne State University is located here and there are still a few remnants of cool things Bronx Bar - great semi-dive bar, good burger as well Jumbo's - Not going to list cass corridor separately so I guess I'll include it here...dive-bar, great music Garden Bowl - oldest continually operating bowling alley in the country. Fun atmosphere later in the evenings. Good pizza as well. MOCAD - solid art museum, bar inside as well Detroit Institute of Arts - Worth going in if just to see that Diego Rivera murals Grey Ghost - One of my favorite new restaurants in the city, meat oriented menu Peterboro - chef-driven take on American Chinese food, fun to hang out as well Corktown - some people think this is where the food scene was re-born. That's not really true, but there are a bunch of decent restaurants and bars here. The ones I like: Nemo's - old school sports bar Ima - udon noodles are good Sugar House - some of the better cocktails in the city Lager House - good place for live music and neat little bar anyway Bucharest Grill - if you don't get much middle eastern wherever you live, it's worth grabbing a schwarma at some point I guess. Mudgie's - Great sandwiches Batch Brewing - beer Two James Distillery - they give a tour/tasting during the day I've done Downtown - greater area where you're staying Golden Fleece or Pegasus - get some lamb chops or a gyro or something The Skip - unique frozen cocktails in a unique alley Standby - right next to the skip, great non-frozen cocktails and an interesting menu Royce - wine Parks n Rec - good for breakfast Cafe d'mongo's - fun spot at night, dive-ish bar, it has become pretty popular now Bon Bon Bon - expensive funky little chocolates (factory is in Hamtramck but they have retail space downtown) Checker Bar - decent little dive bar Stuff in other locations: Any dive bar in Hamtramck (Bumbo's, Kelly's, Painted Lady, etc.) Polish food in Hamtramck Kuzzo's Chicken and Waffles Sister Pie Andrew's on the Corner - decent bar Any real deal middle eastern food in Dearborn (Al Ameer gets the most press)
