One of these times I'm going to get burned, but so far my philosophy of doing absolutely nothing to prepare for the annual storm of the century has worked out just fine.
Yeah I was just out and everything is soaked...that flash freeze around midnight is gonna be rough for people out and about
Nice evening skating at Campus Martius and dinner at Parc. Sat down inside before it really started raining.
The wind is pretty nuts right now. Lights have flickered once; ready for emergency generator protocols.
Losing power would suck today. The saving grace might be that we didn't get much snow on the trees before the wind started.
I’m not going back to read the thread but my old coworker used to read these off to us and after about the 3rd time we started making fun of him because it was clearly clickbait. Why would anyone play for a weather subscription
It's the best resource for timely updates re: snow forecasts in the area. Way better and more info that you get from tv or the weather services. Think it's $1.99/mo...so 4-6 bucks for the season.
My favorite time of year is right after the first snow/snowstorm of the year and everyone in the state (except me of course) completely forgets how to drive and follow the rules of the road
Does anyone have options for rec sports in the Detroit area (I’m in oak park specifically)? Something I’ve been trying to find for the last few years since I moved here, nothing I like so far, and a shoulder injury is keeping me away from weightlifting right now. On a semi-related note, if anyone ever wants to drink a few beers and watch a game, let me know. Been tough to meet people the last few years, I moved right when Covid started. 29 yo (height and girth available upon request ); not sure if there is a smaller Detroit group I’m not privy to.
You're not far from the Detroit Curling Club. That seems like a fun time in the winter. If you like overpriced donuts, DeToxRox is your man. Some of the guys that post in this thread live in your area; hopefully they have some recs for you. I'm pretty far west and am old with kids.
Open to pretty much everything, basketball right now is probably off the table until I get surgery or rehab it.
This is a good flag football league: https://www.detroitsportsclub.com/ I played 4v4 in that league many moons ago. IMO 4v4 is the best league because it's 100% non contact and had a much lower ratio of hardass douchebags than most flag football leagues. They had competitive and rec divisions back in the day. Not sure about now. I would check Oakland Yard in Waterford for soccer and/or volleyball leagues if you're into either of those things. Also the JustPlay app has a bunch of pickup soccer options in the area. Been a while since I played softball but last time I played was in a Royal Oak city league which was pretty fun. Let me know if you have anything specific in mind.
I used to play in a basketball league through Stay and Play Social Club a few years back, I think they run quite a few rec leagues for adults
I’m also old (late 30s, not as old as taylor) but I like beer and don’t have kids. I’ve been meaning to check out that brewery on 11 mile, so I’ll send you a PM if I make it over that way.
heelfan I am practically a neighbor but I don’t leave the house. That said, if you like Indian food, please indulge yourself with Pink Garlic. It’s the best.
Every time I see the word "Freep" it reminds me of this one time at work when I was walking past some guy's office and I hear him on the phone with IT: OK, listen, I meant to type in freep.com but somehow freeones.com came up. I have no idea how it happened and I'm sorry, please don't report this.
It has been snowing all day. Probably only a couple inches total, but there have been flakes steadily coming down since I woke up.
Sitting at about 35 is nice, we had snow on ground in morning but it's been snowing all day but the snow on the ground has melted and none of new stuff is sticking
It's 31° by me, we definitely got 2"+ and it's all sticking on the lawns. My SUV just slid down ice on a neighbor's driveway when I parked it on their hill a few minutes ago. I didn't expect it to be icy.
