Seems like a little extreme of a request due to one person getting infected. That sucks that mosquito exists tho.
Also a random group of counties to try and shut down One guy has it in Barry County, which apparently is north of battle creek and they want to limit after dusk gatherings in Oakland County and Clare County...
Just picked up an absentee ballot. Vote. It probably won’t matter, but you can at least be a smug asshole about it for a month or so.
I went in and picked it up. Find your clerk online and contact them. Edit- https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index
They are available for pick up at your clerk etc. I believe they mailed them out today so we should see them soon.
I'm definitely dropping it off with the clerk, just thought they'd at least have the decency to deliver it to me.
You guys likely know but michgan.gov/vote allows you to see when your ballot application was received, when your ballot mails, when it is received, etc. Mine will be going to the drop box when I get it.
https://www.clickondetroit.com/news...-exceeded-powers-during-coronavirus-pandemic/ Michigan Supreme Court strikes down Gov. Whitmer’s virus orders LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Supreme Court on Friday struck down months of orders by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that were aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus, saying she illegally drew authority from a 1945 law that doesn’t apply. The court said the law was an “unlawful delegation of legislative power to the executive branch in violation of the Michigan Constitution.” The decision is an extraordinary development in a monthslong tug-of-war between Whitmer, a Democrat, and the Republicans who control the Legislature who have complained that they’ve been shut out of major orders that have restricted education, the economy and health care. Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for right now, for your sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality item from me.
Does "Ballot received" mean it was actually counted? Nothing I can do about it at this point, but all this talk about signatures matching and whatnot has me wondering if mine got rejected.
probably. I logged in a few weeks ago before I got mine and it had fields for applied, sent, and received. I've heard people in other states say they got confirmation that theirs had been counted but maybe thats a state-by-state thing.
I'm pretty sure they cannot count any ballots in advance. Not sure whether they could validate signatures in advance and my city clerk was unwilling to shed any light on the subject.
Yep. They passed a law that allows jurisdictions with more than 25,000 people to start counting early/mail-in votes on November 2 (during a specific 10 hour period of time only). All other jurisdictions can’t start counting them until November 3. EDIT: “They” being the MI state legislature
seems like restaurants are exempt as they have fixed seating Gatherings at non-residential venues that do not have fixed seating cannot exceed 50 people.
I would imagine they would also risk suspension or revocation of their licenses it they fail to comply.
Good news: You don't even have to wait until February! January is brutal too. I highly recommend picking up a winter hobby if you live in Michigan. Like skiing or snowmobiling or something. Gives you something to look forward to every weekend and makes the winter go by faster imo.
The cold is more enjoyable once it snows, but by February you're going to be miserable. We all are, so you've got company.
Really interested to see the snow difference between our new house in Grand Haven, when I've been in Michigan I had always been in metro Detroit. Need to get on buying a snowblower asap
Since the court ruling Whitmer hasn't had much to say it seems. Has there been much meeting in terms of her and the legislature since that was their whole agenda was getting to have a say?
Honestly, this is the balance we should have gone for in the summer. Younger kids in school, HS and up virtual and close indoor dining. Just sucks that Congress can’t get its shit together to help out the restaurant industry in any meaningful way. We just have to gut it out for four or five months then we can start getting things back to normal.
