We moved here with one car and got the spectacular peninsulas plate. We leased a second car and they stuck the standard plate on it at the dealership. When my lease turned over they did it again. I could probably get a different plate, but who cares.
Met a few people earlier this week who told me they were from the thumb... And I was pretty confused until I realized it's a region of the state. I'm slow
Driving here pre-legalization would've been scary because everyone drives a Chevy or Ford that looks like an unmarked cop car in the rear view mirror
Pronto Pups are just ok and the owner is a giant MAGA chud. Learn to drive on the Lakeshore grid as leaving town on 31 is an absolute shitshow all spring/summer/fall. I prefer Spring Lake to GH, just so many less people in and out during peak tourism season. Scribs > Fricano's and punch Tom Izzo in the dick if you see him out and about.
Coast Guard festival season makes life damn near unbearable. Fuck Pronto Pups. Swim parallel to rip tides, not against. Oddsides Ales is a must visit if you are alcohol inclined.
Oh yeah, Kirk Park > Grand Haven State Park. I think they have a dog-friendly area still and JW's was my locals dive spot to grab a cheap drink and avoid tourists. As a disclaimer, this info is all 5 years old and I haven't been back since.
Haha, the Pronto Pups guy is a double asshole because he posted this nonsensical diatribe on facebook and let his high school aged employees deal with the fall out. He showed up a few days later but people protested his spot the next day after the rant and all these HS kids were over there trying to keep the peace and sell below average corn dogs. Shame on him.
Local dive bars are on the east side of town or venture to spring lake and go to Stan’s(which is awesome) For the cheapest drinks downtown join one of the clubs(Eagles, Elks, VFW, or the Legion) Oddsides is cool in the summer, kinda outgrown the locals a little though. Check out Burzurk on the east side, becoming the cool craft place for the locals meant to quote Cza lol... I don’t post
I'm actually related (by marriage) to the owner of oddside, used to be able to drink for free there but that was before I moved out here. Not sure how that'd go now. Places around here the wife and I have found and loved since moving in October (so we've only done take out) is El Burrito Loco up in Norton Shores, JW's Food and Spirit, Paisley Pig and for sandwiches Toasted Pickle and Electric Hero. Paisley Pig is a little pricey, but their pulled pork sandwich is great
We had Fricano's last night. It was good not great. Haven't had Scribs yet Can't wait to be able to visit
Skymint dropped rec prices on all the products they make. Gonna try and get a med card in the next few weeks
One of my best friends and old college roommate is one of the managers at oddsides and know a lot of the staff. The expansion has been cool to see, space is huge in comparison to what it used to be.
What I did in MA was find a doctor who specializes in prescribing marijuana. Looks like there are such entities down near Ann Arbor and Lansing. They complete the paperwork for you after a short consultation where you explain what you are suffering from and how you use weed to manage that condition. Anxiety and pulsatile tinnitus don't show up on the list of qualifying conditions here but my guess is these weed docs push you through anyway by fudging the paperwork. I've meant to ask someone at a dispensary for a doctor rec. Might be easy to find on Reddit
I used to work at Great Harvest summers home from college and they always offer free slices of whatever bread they made that day. They have all kinds (sweet for breakfast, sandwich, cheddar garlic, etc). Bumming around downtown I can’t say I never stop in for a quick snack. Those are all good spots tho. Righteous Cuisine is another one to check if you haven’t, great tacos
It’s super easy Just keep your paperwork so you can re-up in 2 years through the state and not whatever shyster you get your card from.
It was one of the dank juices but I don't see it on tap rn. Which isn't really helpful so I apologize but pretty much everything I've had there has been at least solid to very good. If you like sours their offerings are top notch. Also, I don't really like seltzers that much but I thought theirs was pretty good if that is up your alley, same with the fruitsicles.
Ya - those are legit. I'll drive up from Holland every few months to grab some. Usually involves a hike in Rosy Mound.
Yeah well Michigan doesn't fuck around about registering and titling your vehicle upon establishing residency here. There's no grace period. And I am too big a King of the Hill fan not to satisfy the requirements of my local government. Living in a legal state is so sweet because I break zero laws. Clean living. So get a license and take full advantage the Secretary of State website makes it a breeze, really good info there so you know exactly what documents you need
I'm only here until April at the earliest or September at the latest. My permanent address is still in Tennessee
Hey I am pretty smug about it tbh. I'd been to Michigan a few times as a kid and teenager. But cannot wait to be up here during the summer as an adult with the lakes at my disposal Want to get certified as a soccer ref up here sometime soon too
Find a way to stay through September. Summer time in northern Michigan is pretty great (source: Kid Rock)
After living in GH for 15+years, the 2nd week in August through 3rd or so week in September is the best time. All the annoying Chicago tourists are back home after coast guard and the weather is still good enough to enjoy tons outside. Labor Day, start of college football...best time.
May be moving to Ann Arbor this summer. This talk has me excited even though I will absolutely hate winter
I heard a terrible rumor that The Curragh changed their mozz sticks recipe recently and besides showing soccer, that was the only redeemable quality of that entire place.
They've offered my wife an extension through September. If we find good housing, we're staying. I agree, it would suck to only be here January through April. I'm looking forward to playing golf and fishing up here
Probably heard about it, but Jack Nicklaus’ group bought the Grand Haven Golf Club and it’s been closed for 2+ years for a full redesign. Supposed to open this spring and supposed to be beautiful. On the southern end of town. https://americandunesgolfclub.com/
