This is a really good read. I shit on the Gold package games but the reason there is still a team in a town that is 100k is because the were able to split games with a second and much larger city.
Listing to the Playcallers pod on the Athletic The third episode is how all of the Shanahan descendants hired DC's that were built to stop their offenses (Staley, Saleh, etc) 1. Lol LaFleur is not featured on this one despite trying to go to the Fangio tree like the others. 2. That failing seems almost entirely due to the lack of a Derwin James/Fitzpatrick hybrid type player that hides the defenses intention
you telling me that Savage hasn’t lived up to his billing!!??? (when he has been good the defense is good, so the above makes sense, even if he tackles like booty hole)
This Playcallers podcast is both amazing and depressing. That Super Bowl 56 should have been ours. We would have beaten the Rams and Bengals easy. This article went over the highlights related to LaFleur The big takeaway in this is that these offenses are living breathing beings that are constantly evolving. It's no surprise that 2022 went the way it did with the constant flux of injuries at wr and Aaron mia in the off-season. I'm sure he had the true collaboration with Hackett, Getsy, Davante, Stenavich, etc happened in 2020 and 21. When most of those guys are gone, and Rodgers is doing whatever the fuck in the off-season - it's no wonder they went through periods of being lost on offense and Saleh made them their bitch at home.
Joe Barry is an oldhead who struggles to adjust. That's the biggest problem. Hiring Joe Barry expecting Vic Fangio results is like the Dolphins hiring Joe Philbin and expecting their QB to turn into Aaron Rodgers. Fangio, Staley, Saleh, etc can adapt. Adopting the defensive meta is great but as soon as offenses adjust, the DC needs to be able to react as well. It took Joe Barry until after the bye to start mixing up coverages and looks.
I'm guessing that a long time ago LaFleur and Barry worked well together in Washington challenging each other with play design and game planning. I just don't think he has it on game day, and I think we are missing some elements personnel wise to make it work. There have always been weak points on the defense to attack (DL, LB before Campbell, S, pass rushers last year after Gary went down). And we don't have a an ass kicker like Bosa or Donald up front to cover for that.
Hopefully Luke Musgrave can become consistent. He has potential to be a difference maker at TE with how athletic he is.
Be an ‘average’ blocker and put some 12 personal in there and go from there. Watson won’t be stopped if he can catch the ball, he has way too much movement on short routes and able to take to the house (disrupting entire coverages). Love will struggle, but you are seeing WAY too many people (against a good secondsry, they suck ass at run defense but the secondary was really good!!!) say this isn’t bullshit. It’s there… He doesn’t have the velocity of Favre or Rodgers (that’s close to impossible as both were top 10 guys all time) but it’s insanely good and he moves and throws on run REALLY good. It’s the footwork and mental side. Footwork leads to accuracy, mental side leads to right decision for easy completions. He has talent to make weird shit happen. That was evident forever.
Adding a few middle linebackers, an ok wr, and a rt doesn't take you from the worst roster in the league to anything to worry about.
I think the only surprising outcome in the North this year is the Bears winning it. I think the other three are going to be bunched up pretty tightly despite everyone anointing the Lions.
I feel like Musgrave being a starter on the first depth chart is a good sign, plus having Deguara listed at fullback means there is no second guessing putting him out there.
Anders should absolutely scare you and 100% they have back channels to Crosby going. Sounds like both sides of the ball played pretty well today. Love missed a few it sounds like but his reads were correct and he made one GORGEOUS throw to Doubs on sideline. Int sounds like a lineman got trucked and it was a screen that isn’t really on him (according to reports).
I watched the whole game. Outside of that Pick 6, Sean Clifford looked like a viable 2nd option for you guys
Why in the hell did he not stay with the Packers if his so interested in every damn Packer player to come play with him
So, flat out ignore anyone that suggests the Packers would consider trading Bakhtiari to the Jets 1. Packers aren't going to want to help the Jets win games 2. Packers would get practically zero cap relief, either this year or next 3. Jets don't have a first rounder to give up (I can't imagine that they are allowed to offer a pick that is already offered in a conditional package) 4. Love would benefit from an elite LT in his first year Maybe if they have an extra safety they could trade Yoshi for a 3rd or a player+ a later round pick.
A young qb and arguably the best left tackle in football (when healthy) is a godsend for avoiding the creation of bad habits. Trust your draft ability for the future and keep Bak for the reminder of his contract. Somebody in the AFC (that’s absolutely not going to be the Jets) going to have to come in with a can’t refuse offer. Seriously, Bak is a top 10-20 player in football when healthy. You could argue there were years he was the best player on the Packers.
I do hope the Jets pick up Jason Peters for Rodgers before he pulls a Varsity Blues Billy Bob right after Rodgers gets to that 65% threshold and the Jets lose every game after.
I sell liquor, beer, and wine into bars/restaurants. So I see plenty of get up floating around on TVs. The amount of Rodgers stuff and trade for Bak I’ve seen is insane. Even more funny when Dan Orlovsky just laughed at Greeny one morning like, ‘yea, none of that shit is going to happen.’
its hardly ever mentioned that why would Green Bay do this. Just lots of talk about how good NY would be if they did it. Like there are actual trade talks
like, what the hell are the Jets going to give us? A guaranteed 1st regardless of playing Rodgers does, that 2nd and other draft picks? I feel other teams needing help, with playoff aspirations could bring a more complete package to Green Bay. Also think nobody will because of the injury nobody is going to actually offer more than a meh package. It’s just better to set Love up, even if it doesn’t technically help us with super hopes. Think it’s more beneficial 4-5 years down the line unless somebody is desperate and throws out a stupid offer.
I fear that Anders' career could mimic his brother's where he sucks for us, we let him go, and then he is great with the next team
there seems potentially to be 2-3 late steals for us. Both interior d-lineman have been playing outstanding. Some guys stepping up at end will allow LVN to develop and come in and go balls to the wall when he does.
They are potentially deep at this spot. Legit are going to have to think about 6 at the spot (Cox). I…I think the roster is set up pretty damn well for the future imo. Going to have to be some guys that go away but the young talent is as spread out as I remember and IF Love hits…holy fuck. The positions that are most unstable are safety and running back going forward imo. Safety is a bit rough, but (and I love the guys we have) running back is a great spot to have good guys NOW in the transition… I’ll never trust special teams because it teases me when we suck (last year) and hits me with an anvil the other years. edit: running back is set this year, of all spots on roster this is one I’d be least scared about in future because of the shelf window…
