Sounds like they consider Rasheed Walker an option at LT long term. Yosh is probably the swing tackle this year and we will get a nice comp pick when some bad team overpays for competence, but Walker got reps with the 1's when Bakhtiari rested and started against the Pats. They wouldn't do that unless they had plans for him.
But at the same time, it’s preseason and Bak was out/resting, somebody had to play meaningless LT snaps.
Yosh would just be the next guy in in that case. LaFleur said that the Pats playing their 1's also played a part in it. Might be nothing, but being signaled out by the coach for a good week and being rewarded is about the best you can hope for in a 2nd year 7th round pick. The way I think of things like this - (same goes for Love or any young player) - you are going to hear good and bad updates. Sometimes a player that starts well falls off and bombs, sometimes a player struggles early and figures it out and improves. In any case, it's always better to hear positive things along the way.
Walker's upside was pretty high for a 7th rounder. Prior to the 2021 season he was (I think) projected to be a day two guy with the potential to play himself into the first and went the other way due to inconsistent play, laziness, and I believe an injury. Flashed a lot of potential at PSU prior to that season.
Steno is also one of the best line coaches in the league. There would be a ton of teams that don’t have a better tackle than Yosh and he is our swing, 3rd guy.
That’s how he was at auburn. Make a 55 yarder dead center that was good from 65, then shank a 27 yarder like a drunk uncle
He's just not one of our best 5 lineman. Tom is probably better than him but he might be better utilized at right tackle
Whelan has a much stronger leg and they save a bunch of cap money as well. I know he was great at downing it inside the 20, but think this is a smart move. Take a chance at a dude with a strong leg in a notoriously tough area to kick and save some cap space if a tight end or any other spot, which will happen, comes open. edit: it’s also clear as FUCK with the roster cuts and keeps today they are embracing the youth movement with them expecting Love to be something and when he does, they will have guys hitting their peak. These moves are ‘look out in 3 years.’
Feel like Gutey is like Stearns was in that they get involved with every conversation at some level. The amount of big trades that were close that didn't materialize is a long list.
that completion to Herbert was such terrible defense by him. He was right in front of him and just let him run to the flat so Quay could drop where there was no one in sight.
Not only that, he assumed he was going out of bounds and gave up 8 more yards than it should have been because he had a half assed finish
I was at the game boys, and let me tell you… those fuckers are SHOOK Love came up huge when the stadium was the loudest. Every fucking time. He had one drive where it was 2 drops, 2 bad passes I seen all night. Let me also tell you with the all 22 view…that fucker reads his progressions. He is going to have ups and downs, but the kid can play. It was loud as fuck and he would just go through his progressions smooth as shit. The fans were absolutely floored at the end. They looked defeated as fuck.
Aaron Jones gas and will be the most underrated player in the nfl. They had no answer for him, he burned them in the slot, backfield, everywhere.
The most concerning thing from today might be AJ Dillon. He always seems to get less out of touches than he should.
That td pass to Jones was a staple of NCAA Football 200x with Armando Allen and then various recruits. Get man on the linebacker and it's over.
Looked pretty shitty looked good 4th, we were wondering why they weren’t running Jones but it’s kind of clear, imo, that Matt knows that’s their ticket and isn’t trying to run it out.
If you look up best Packers performances up the last 5 years the common denominator is an Aaron. And it’s as much the one with the last name of Jones. he is underrated as fuxk
Watched the first half and then went to a concert and had no service. Finally got some bars and saw the score and just laughed. Saw a bunch of Bears fans (which was kind of odd for New Haven, CT) and they didn't look completely crushed so I don't think they knew yet.
I have no idea if Love will be a dude… but he made their entire fanbase want to die today when he had the crop of rookies/second year players he had and still was so calm. You find an Adams in the group? Fuckkkkkkk
You give him and Adams and a Jones and it’s the same shit going forward. I’m telling you fucks, he read and went through progressions so good. I EXPECTED him to run several times and he just didn’t…and then threw a pass to where the dude was.
Results like today make me miss boers and McNeil even more. These new money fans are thinking about the USC qb and Harrison Jr with the panthers pick. I need the drive time pain and suffering lol
I mean, just looking at the offense that he ran vs their scheme is comical as hell. I don't even know what the fuck they are trying to do on offense. Thought they did a good job on the play calling and was happy to see him unleash some longer passes.
I did think we finally have some depth, and good depth, on the d-line. It was apparent that guys were able to go all out. looking at the play % and Kenny Clark wasn’t even 50%. That’s massive going forward.
