Off duty cop waddled into our daycare with a gun on his hip for a teacher meet and greet thing. Slacks, golf shirt, and gun on his hip. I went to the owner and expressed my concern bc of shit like this. IT'S A TEACHER MEET AND GREET AND A DAYCARE. You can leave your gun in the car, hardo.
Not trying to start a ruckus here but are you sure he was off duty? The way you describe it sounds as if this officer is a desk jockey. Its plausible that things are done differently wherever it is that you live, but it's been my experience that off-duty cops conceal carry, if they even carry at all.
He was at a school meet and greet. In no way does that fall under his job description. He was a dad at a school function with his kid.
I mean if you were uncomfortable you probably should have shared your thoughts about this with him face to face rather than with the owner of the daycare. I can guarantee you that you'd have gotten farther doing that. Do you really expect the daycare owner to say something? Still it really sounds to me like he was on just on shift and wanted to be there to meet with his child's teachers the same as you. I cant fault anyone for being a good dad, God knows the world could use a few more.
It's not my position to enforce the daycare rules, one of which is no firearms on the premises. He addressed it with the guy and the owner later called me to let me know the guy will no longer be carrying on premises. I wouldn't have my daughter at a facility that allowed firearms on their premises. It's something I checked for when looking at facilities. I'm not trying to have a confrontation with a hardo that needs a gun on his belt to feel safe in a daycare. I took a break from work to be there as well. I left my work utensils at work. There's no reason he can't do the same. While there, he was just a dad. What he does before and after he's there is not relevant at all. I mean I'm trying to be civil here but IT'S A FUCKING DAYCARE. There's zero reason to carry a fucking gun. If you're that petrified to walk into a fucking daycare, stay at home. Bc I don't want this affecting my kid:
You left out some pertinent details in your original post. One actually. And it was a pretty big detail. Had you have included that little detail to begin with, then I'd have absolutely agreed with you in the first place. Have a great day.
The fact that it is a daycare means nothing to you? If they dont have a specific rule you're packing heat?
Honestly it's sad that a daycare even has to have that rule. It should only take a little common sense but unfortunately a lot of people don't have that. If you feel the need to carry a gun when at a meet and greet at a daycare, you're a pathetic person and should just stay inside your house and clutch your guns tightly.
Not particularly, no. Two months ago there were two officers at my granddaughters school during a little career day thing that they hold where parents talk to the kids about what they do. Nobody thought twice about the police officers wearing their guns. I mean, It's kind of what they do. However, if there is a specific rule that a private business owner has about firearms on premises, then I dont think it's too much of an ask to have them left outside. And that's where our hangup was here. You left out the fact that the daycare is a gun-free zone. I don't own any guns. Question does not apply to me.
Cops in uniform for career day might be a little different than a guy in plainclothes at a meet and greet, He could have easily left the gun in his car.
You have no idea what people thought. Nobody said anything to the cop at our daycare. 3 people later went to the owner. The fact that you thought nothing of multiple men having guns around your grandkid says a lot about you. Normal people assume this.
It does, but it's just strange when polar opposite ideologies intersect like that. Particularly in such a divided atmosphere that we currently find ourselves in.
Maybe they are just better marksmen than us and dont need a semi automatic rifle to take down a moose or a deer.
Being a Trumper and a "I need all these guns to be ready for when the military takes over the streets!" guy has to be quite the conundrum right now.
Hey THF how is the hunt for heroin going Also curious if your thoughts have changed since you’ve become a dad and care about someone other than yourself
I would respect the gun owners more if they just were honest. Just say you want to keep your guns because you think they are bad ass or it’s cool. Don’t give me the whole protection shit, etc.
A guy on a Dolphins forum I used to post on used to frequently post "my rights trump your dead" any time gun control would come up after mass shootings. It's incredibly stupid and callous but in a way it was refreshing that he skipped the tyrannical government or "guns actually make us safer" spiel. It's exactly what every person against gun control thinks but won't say.
I think my view points on a lot of things have changed significantly over the years as I have gotten older and over the seven years since this was posted. The addition of a kid has absolutely contributed towards that. I also concede the heroine analogy was a terrible one. The point I was attempting to make was that a determined individual who is looking to harm others, will find a way. My viewpoint today is the second amendment should be treated like the first amendment, with restrictions. No one argues someone should have the ability to scream “FIRE!” in a crowded theater, yet some point to the second amendment which specifically mentions “well regulated” and claim that gives them the right to own anything they want. The first amendment doesn’t include any language around regulation, yet we all agree that one’s freedom ends when it becomes a risk to others. Firearms in this country are a clear and present risk to others. Full stop. I hope that answers your question.
It seems insane to me that you guys can't even have a vote in the Senate on any gun control measures if you can't get 60 of them to agree to it. Even if it takes 60 to pass it seems insane that it can't be put to a vote. Get motherfuckers on the record and make them justify it. So cowardly how they can hide behind some bullshit rule and not have to own it.
It's just an arbitrary Senate rule that could be changed, but the Ds don't want change. They like things just like they are.
