I forget who it was (Keith Law maybe) who said we're trying to be both buyers and sellers. I'm assuming that means trading off garbage arms
Didn't realize that he's the same age as our super young pitchers like Allard and Soroka. He's a baby and one of the best players in AAA.
He still needs time (which is fine because I love Brandon Phillips) but it'd be nice to ease him along and he's already better than Emilio and Santana
So are we all in agreement that the Alex Wood trade was the worst of the Coppy era? The Braves are on the verge of consummating a 3-team, 12-player trade that will send starting pitchers Alex Wood and Bronson Arroyo, relievers Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan and infield prospect Jose Peraza to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In return, Atlanta would receive third baseman Hector Olivera, reliever Paco Rodriguez and pitching prospect Zachary Bird from the Dodgers. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/07/braves_to_trade_alex_wood_jose.html Also, are they just trolling us with Emilio Bonifacio? It definitely seems like it. It can't be serious keeping him in the bigs.
In the Braves defense, we did flip Hector for Kemp and still have Bird tooling around in the minors. The Braves still could be proven correct on Wood with his mechanics and injury concerns.
I dont see a problem with the trade since we got a cleanup hitter which we desperately needed out of it. Might even get more out of it if an AL team wants to pony up for Kemp
Hector was merely the piece we used for Kemp. He hasn't necessary to make it happen as the Dodgers didn't actually want him. Getting him and his huge salary were such a fuck up on our end in the first place.
I think the Wood stuff is unfair to Coppy. The concerns are still there despite him having a nice start to this season (in only seven starts btw). As for Oliveria, he was meant to fill a big need but the knock on him was age. No one could've predicted he'd be arrested for domestic assault two weeks into the season. We took a risk and got burned but we kind of mitigated it because San Diego was willing to swap bad contracts (although Kemp has been great for us). We also unloaded Arroyo in the deal who brought in Touki. In short, I don't think Alex Wood is not going to come back to haunt us like Dansby/Ender will Arizona or Crime Dog did SD.
No or even Wainwright for us. It's just the worst trade of this current regime that has seemingly hit home runs at every other turn.
I obviously don't like that we missed all of those great Wainwright years, but it did give us a replacement for Sheff to keep Bobby's streak alive and Eli Marrero was a pretty good utility player for us. I'd liken that to trading Jermaine Dye. Not really considered highway robbery because Tucker and Lockhart were good but not great either.
Bowman is saying that Rio is going to get the majority of the starts even after Adonis is activated. This pleases me and makes us a better team. Sounds like Emilio is the odd man out.
I always assumed Emilio was just a sacrificial lamb waiting to be DFA'ed when they needed to add someone to the 40
Phillips gets the tying run & Kemp plates him for the lead. The 8 fans still there are in for a real treat tonight.
It was awesome. My ass has been waking up every day at like 2 am lately for some reason and watched it. Matt Adams has been a fucking gem for us so far. He did like a little yelp right after he got the hit too which was fantastic.
