In the last three years, she’s had five top 10 hits and two number one overall hits. It’s unbelievable to me for an American aged 12-40 to say they’ve never heard of her.
I couldn't even tell you the fm numbers of the local radio station that people like Halsey have their songs played on
Halsey is in a commercial that I think plays one of her songs. That's the only time I've probably heard her music. I've seen her referenced several times on the interwebs, that's how I am partially aware of who she is. It's really not hard to not keep up with pop music.
I probably heard one of her songs in passing but would have no clue. And I also don't pay attention to the Billboard charts so her being on there doesn't mean shit to me.
I had never heard of Billie Ellish (sp?) until she was on an episode of Hot Ones. it's super easy to be disconnected from pop music especially these days. XM and Ipods and Spotify, it's not even on my radar on local FM radio.
I don’t keep up with pop music either, but I do read the internet often and turn on my tv from time to time. She’s been plastered everywhere for the last couple of years. Have these people not heard of Lady Gaga either? It’s not that I’m saying I don’t believe these people don’t seek her out. I’m saying it’s very difficult to be on the Internet often and have never seen her referenced before. Maybe people are less observant or maybe they are being intentionally obtuse.
You don’t have to listen to someone’s music to have heard of them. As someone who I know keeps up with politics, I also don’t believe you haven’t seen her name in regards to her political activism.
Is it? What websites do you often see Halsey featured on? No one is saying they've never seen a reference to her. But when you read something like "Halsey" and don't know what the hell someone is talking about you move on. Just like I assume a shit load of people would if they read the names Austin Riley or cam reddish
Same. I also saw a news article that said this Bille person was headlining Coachella. So I did what normal people do and I googled who this person is. Since that time, I’ve noticed her more and more on tv when in airports and the like.
At least for me, it’s pretty easy to tune out things I don’t care for DJ Khaled really triggers me for some reason though
Trumptards havent heard of non white people too so I can see how Arkadin could have never heard of her
This is precisely what people are saying and what I’m taking umbrage with. I think the Riley guy is a baseball player? And Cam plays basketball. I can’t say I know much about either beyond that though.
I think everyone who doesn't know who she is would probably acknowledge it's possible they've seen a reference to her at some point that they don't remember. That doesnt mean they know anything about her. How could you not know who Austin Riley is? I just don't get how that could be possible unless you're intentionally being obtuse
Good point. Austin Riley and Halsey share a similar level of name recognition. Just admit you’re being a fucking idiot.
comparing an internationally best selling pop artist to a random baseball player on an irrelevant team you keep being your dumbass, obtuse self Arkadin
I do not go to music websites unless it pertains to a band/artist I like, and the only TV I watch live is sports. Everything else is either via streaming or off a DVR where I can skip the commercials. None of them discuss music.
I had to Google the name. Baseball player. I only pay just a tad bit more attention to that than I do music I don't listen to.
There are guys who make like 500k a month streaming video games with millions of followers you should know exactly who they are because other people are interested in them
Honestly, other than now Austin Riley, I'd struggle to name 20 current MLB players. 10 might be a stretch too but I think I could do that if I really put some effort into thinking about it. If it's something I don't really give a shit about, I don't waste any of my time or energy knowing or learning much of anything about it.
[citation needed] Jeep plastered the MLB playoffs with commercials featuring her name, her face, and her song. Don’t think I’ve seen Cam on a commercial during the NBA playoffs, much less the Grammys or AMAs.
The internet is great though. Where the same people will tell you you claim to know everything and then also tell you that you're lying when you say you're not familiar with a whole genre of things
Well how much do you know about Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister of India who has over 47 million Twitter followers?
Born to a Gujarati family in Vadnagar, Modi helped his father sell tea as a child, and has said he later ran his own stall. He was introduced to the RSS at the age of eight, beginning a long association with the organisation. Modi left home after finishing high-school in part due to an arranged marriage to Jashodaben Chimanlal, which he abandoned, and publicly acknowledged only many decades later. Modi travelled around India for two years and visited a number of religious centres before returning to Gujarat. In 1971 he became a full-time worker for the RSS. During the state of emergency imposed across the country in 1975, Modi was forced to go into hiding. The RSS assigned him to the BJP in 1985, and he held several positions within the party hierarchy until 2001, rising to the rank of General Secretary.
I don't blame anyone for not knowing who she is, I learned of her from commercials and a friend in CA that sometimes hangs out with G-Eazy. using that random ass player is weird though. I think a more apt comparison would be some one like Baez.
but Arkadin couldnt tell you who Baez is because he doesn't play on the Braves so it wouldnt fit his point
A top prospect who just made their debut and homered in their first game this week would not be random to someone who follows baseball or fantasy baseball.
If anyone needs me I'll be in my Master's Chamber listening to Mozart, this whole thread hath confused me.
