The question is not really how much you know about Modi, it’s whether you’ve ever heard of him. It’s an absolutely astonishing claim to suggest that Halsey and Cam Reddish are in the same universe with respect to cultural awareness.
I'm not trying to suggest that they are. I'm just simply trying to point out being well known and having a lot of Twitter followers doesn't mean every single person in the USA is going to know who they are.
The point is that it is entirely possible to not know the names of people who sing the commercial jingles or dance around in the background while you wait for the game to come back on. Cam reddish is about to be a top 5 pick and played on a team that had every single one of its games televised in prime time this year. I don't expect everyone to know who he is because I, unlike some others, realize that people don't pay a lot of attention to shit they don't care about and unless someone is just overwhelming shoved down your throat (Kardashians, Kanye west, Tim tebow) all of the shit doesn't stick
Right but you are ignoring that one is an established presence and one is so far a one week wonder. I get where you are going, but your comparison doesn't match up.
It's about the genre, not the specific people. I don't know shit about Halsey because I don't know shit about that kind of music. As is the case with lots of other people
Dude, I'm agreeing with your premise, I'm simply saying it was a bad comparison and another baseball player should have been used.
I am not a teenage girl and do not have teenage girl music or media tastes. I had no idea what a Halsey was until this thread was posted. Apologies for anyone this offends, but she does not pop up on my Head and The Heart Pandora station or on my Netflix commercials. I also don’t tune into the Top 100 countdown. It is not obtuse to not know who she is. There are broad outlets for direct and tailored media and entertainment consumption in the 21st century that allow you to not have to wade through the crap you have no interest in. As an aside though, now that I know who she is she is easy on the eyes.
I picked two athletes who have appeared numerous times on ESPN in the last week. It wasnt anything other than the largest media outlet in the country talking about them
How long are you guys going to argue about whether or not you’re trying too hard if you haven’t heard of a singer?
Done after this, but you just made my point. She has been in mass markets in her genre for several years. You cited a week. That does not compare.
I cited a week because I was giving people the benefit of the short term recall. Like I said, I know everyone has heard her name at some point but if you generally don't give a single shit the "who is that" reaction is a totally normal one
I would argue he is fully embracing being old: He is unaware of culturally relevant people He is yelling at others because the world has passed him by He is refusing to adapt to the times He is making absurd analogies that aren’t even remotely appropriate He doesn't appear to know how to use Google He believes it is ok to be ignorant of the world around him yet have strong opinions Hopefully his secret Santa gives him a year supply of Metamucil so he doesn’t kill people driving to the store to buy some.
I know who Halsey was cause I heard her in a chain smokers song and googled her to see if she was hot. AMA. PS, she is hot.
Add Chainsmokers to the list of names I've heard and know they make music but know nothing else about them Thanks
Not knowing who Halsey is seems reasonable and fine especially considering the demographics of this board. However it is weird to me this tendency people have where they pop into a thread about a person and be like, "Hey everyone guess what I don't know this person." Like I don't understand what the point of that is. If you were looking to learn about them you'd just Google it so obviously that isn't the motivation. Is it some kind of self-gratification that I'm missing?
Some people use every possible opportunity to tell the world about a rookie third baseman with 2 home runs. You can’t knock the hustle.
OK, so you know of them but because you don't follow the genre you don't know their work. Cool, this is where things fall apart I don't follow baseball closely aside from the Cubs and I have never heard of those guys you listed. This is where it gets different You have heard of the Chainsmokers and what they do, so they being around for some time has leached in. See where I am going. I really am done now guys. Have to get fertilizer on before the rain hits.
It's possible to have more recognition for one name, like the Chainsmokers, than another, like Halsey.
I had never heard of her before either but I'm sure now that I have I'll see or hear her everywhere now. Same thing as someone else mentioned about Billie Eilish. Before that Hot Ones appearance I had never heard shit about her and now I hear her name a lot.
I’ve heard the name Chainsmokers, but didn’t put together what songs of theirs I recognized until I played them on iTunes. I don’t recognized the name Halsey, but I do recognize her music when I play it. I think she’s pretty and does not have as many horses in the back as I like, but that’s okay.
I would probably recognize her song if it was in some big commercial but it's also hard for me to wrap my head around the assumption that everyone consumes the same media content in the age of Netflix and Spotify
I'll check her out when angrymetalguy.com reviews her newest album. But only if it scores a 3.5 or above
I never asked who she was. I actually even stated when this thread was created that I shuffled her music on Spotify and recognized some of her work. I responded specifically to the wild ass claim that if you aren't familiar with the name Halsey you're either lying or completely oblivious to the world.
But that’s why I come to tmb. Ethan Edwards keeps me apprised of who’s hot and who’s not in Hollywood
