IMO the argument about how/why posters don’t know a specific celebrity is typically more entertaining than the actual content in op, so I say we keep it up.
I don’t think it’s the not knowing that annoys people, it’s the weird air of superiority some people have over not knowing something.
You can keep claiming you didn’t say you didn’t know who she was, but here’s your post stating otherwise. I’ve never once said people need to know or like her music. I’m saying she’s everywhere so it’s shocking to me that people who have the internet or consume other forms or media say they don’t know her to be a famous singer or have at least seen her name mentioned somewhere in the past few years. This is especially true for the posters I know participate in the political threads on here, where her activism has been mentioned.
I know I said that. I didn't come in and say "who", I engaged in the conversation I literally said I pulled up her music to see if I recognized it and then said I believe I heard her name previously. I admitted in that post you quoted that i had some familiarity but it didn't come to me without some sort of help The fact you can't understand there are tons of people who don't know who someone like this is off the top of their head is mind bottling
There have been a bunch of threads started about people I’d never heard off on here. But, instead of posting “who is that” I’d google that person to see why a thread was started.

Well that one is easy. One invented a genre of music and to which a direct line must be traced in order to be considered a member of that genre. The other one is for cult-ish stinky people.
I loved them at one time. I definitely bought Mezmerize the day it came out. Possibly Hypnotize later on too.

I've had former student employees who worked for me on a regular basis throughout the school year who I can't even remember when I get a call because they used me as a reference, but I'm supposed to know who every pop star is?

Well I had around 25-30 student employees every year so it's easy to forget them when you can't put a face to a name.
I've kept in touch with a large # of them, will be attending the wedding for one that graduated a couple years ago. One actually reached out to me for a graphic design project because I recently started up my own freelance graphic design business on the side.
