An I the only one that still listens to at least parts of the soundtrack? I have 6 or 7 of the songs on a playlist that I listen to all the time
1. Alexander Hamilton 2. Aaron Burr 3. My Shot 4. Helpless 5. Satisfied 6. Wait for It 7. Cabinet Battle 1 Will be on rotation for awhile.
Any of the Burr songs, Guns and Ships, Alexander Hamilton, Yorktown and It’s Quiet Uptown always have a spot in the rotation. Sometimes I’ll just throw the Hamtilton Sountrack + Mixtape Spotify playlist into shuffle for a few songs or a car ride to/from work.
Buddy of mine got hooked up with 5th row tix bc an old friend of his is playing Hamilton I was super jelly
Patiently waiting on tickets to go on sale at the Fox in Atlanta. Probably going to pay too much, but it will be worth it. Matt Foley did you buy the season ticket package? I think we had talked about it.
Nah, I decided not to. Right or wrong, my interest in seeing this live fell off once the original cast called it quits.
FWIW I saw it in Chicago so without original cast and even had a few understudies for my performance (so no Wayne Brady) and it was phenomenal. The Burr left some to be desired from Leslie Odom Jr, Joshua Henry or Wayne Brady but I didn’t feel like I missed out with the other parts especially Hamilton.
I still want to see it when it's in Orlando but I have to admit my desire isn't as strong since the og cast left.
Anyone able to get tickets in Atlanta. It says tickets are available but every date I search for two seats it says they arent
I did. Got two for July 2 at 2 PM. I only bought them to sell them but now I'm super into this girl and thinking about taking her instead of making triple my money.
Wife and I are Fox Theatre season pass holders, so we got four 10th row seats a few months back. Could probably sell those for a fucking mint right now, but I won’t.
What time did you start waiting in the Queue? I just had them send me an email when it was my turn, took about 45 minutes and only 2 dates were sold out at that point.
I got in the queue at like 9:45. It said only 2 shows were sold out, but every time we tried to add tickets, it told us now seats existed. I called the box office and they told me to keep clicking until I get a ticket
Fiance couldn't get them but two friends got 4 apiece. She was in the queue at 9a before her friend and never seemed to move. She saw it in NYC last Christmas so wouldn't have been too upset if they had struck out.
Went to the Atlanta show on Wednesday. 11th row center. Was awesome and even better than I expected despite listening to the soundtrack several dozen times before seeing the show. King George and Hercules stole the show.
Went last Sunday in Atlanta. Though Jefferson was amazing. Was a little disappointed with burr on “wait for it” but he killed it on room where it happens and a bunch of other songs
Assuming it was the same dude, he made Burr as a person so much less likeable than Odom does. Like you can’t even sympathize with him.
Im sure this is a common thing in theater, but new to me since Hamilton is really the only play Ive seen with common knowledge of the original broadway cast. Ive seen it 3 times in Chicago and it always takes a little getting use to seeing others play the characters. Part of it is Im sure they're putting their own spin on the character and shit, but when youre jamming out to the soundtrack, then go see it live the actors put maybe a different emphasis on a word than youre used or inflection on a note that youre not expecting - it takes you out of it a bit. Wayne Brady played Burr two of the times. He was good, but when there was times where Burr had a coy smile that Odom pulled off so great, Brady had the goofy Wayne Brady smile that seemed out of place. But that's really nit picky on my part.
think brady may be a little different cause we all know him from several other things. When I saw it in Chicago I was extremely happy Brady wasn't performing. A) I liked the guy we had but B) i didn't have to deal with separating him from other characters he has played
i'm sure he was fine, I just liked going in having no expectations and not knowing any of the cast members from anything
Saw it last night in D.C. Tough for it to live up to the hype but I thought it was very good. Listened to the soundtrack on my way in this morning. My girlfriend listens to the soundtrack on repeat so I was familiar with a lot of the songs and agree a little about other people putting their own spin on the characters. I thought our George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr were really good. Hamilton himself was tough to get used to after hearing LMM in the role so many times.
Tried to get tickets for Orlando. That went as expected. Site crashed and now queue is full. I hate resellers/bots. https://www.drphillipscenter.org/events/tickets/2019/hamilton-2/
Oh, forgot to post it... but I saw the show in Chicago last week. I'll return with more details when I have a moment.
I just saw him on TV a couple days ago thought something about him seemed different. Maybe it was Burr scratching away at how super approachable and nice he seems.
If any one in the nyc area hasn’t seen the show yet, I just put four tickets up for next friday (11/30) at face value. They’re currently $200 cheaper than the next cheapest tickets on the same night. We may be able to figure out a way to sell them outside of one or the sites and avoid fees too.
Oh man so many thoughts. Can't wait to read through this whole thread. I went into the play fairly blind as far as the music. Obviously I knew the style and heard a couple of songs but I didn't listen to the whole soundtrack or anything. I also hadn't watched any videos. I just went in with a basic understanding of the history and Hamilton. Obviously the music is pure genius but what really stood out to me was the amount of passion and energy into an American history story. We simply have not been taught our own history like this and you almost wonder why. I don't mean it always has to be hip hop but we should be able to tell the story of our history without using "old English" and being boring about it because... ...This story is absolutely insane. And the fact we don't know more growing up about a guy like Mulligan is a shame. Just everything around Hamilton's story is bonkers. It should not have taken a genius Puerto Rican to bring this out but here we are. Plus this really shows how you can tell a compelling story, accurately, without worrying about people "looking the part." One of the biggest strokes of genius is how the show looks and how it doesn't take away from the story or the history. If anything it helps you focus on the story itself even more. If the soundtrack was released on its own without a play it would win Grammy's anyway. So much of it is stuck in my head. And bonus: it's on Amazon Prime so I could download it for free. The choreography is amazing too. I loved how much of the show involved the whole cast and people playing multiple parts. I wasn't prepared for how fast the show is. It doesn't stop. It's 2:45 with intermission and the intermission is the only pause longer than 5 seconds. Didn't know that going in. Then at the end it really felt like you saw him grow up. Ending is also more emotional than I expected. Favorite songs during the show (sorry don't know the names): The first with the sisters ("Greatest city in the world"), the one where they explain the rules of the dual, the one at the beginning where it intros Burr, Lafyette, Mulligan, and Laurens. EDIT: Oh and the cabinet rap battles were the best.
Yea they aren’t releasing that until it stops making insane money. If I’m not mistaken, there’s still no recording of wicked and that released like 15 years ago
I've heard LMM talk about it though and isn't it his goal to get the story to as many people as possible from an education standpoint? Hence stuff like his $10 tickets and trying to make it more accessible with the tours, etc. For whatever reason I would actually expect it to be one of those 'live' network performances that NBC is doing before it gets released in 4K DVD.
One more thought: I loved how he weaves the songs together and calls back to big lines from previous songs. "Not going to waste my shot" "How lucky are we to be alive right now" "Telling your story"....I know there are a couple more. But it just helps with keeping his mentality and drive consistent so you understand his decision making.
They recorded a live show, with the original cast, before they all moved on to other projects. I fully expect it to be released once the regional shows/touring company packs it in at the end of 2021 (I believe Chicago is going to close at the end of 2019, same with San Fran).
Yea I remember reading that somewhere, maybe itt. I figured they would have released it by now. I guess it's a fine line between releasing it too early and costing themselves ticket sales and waiting too long and people not caring about it anymore.
Got to see the show in Greenville back in December. Had upper balcony seats which weren’t great but what we could afford and the show was phenomenal. I registered for the lottery every show and about 4 days later I get notified that I won two tickets for $10. Wife and I considered going again but decided to give the tickets to family who had really wanted to see it but couldn’t afford the prices. I joked that these seats would end up being front row. I went to get tickets and sure enough they were front row middle seats. Needless to say, they were blown away.
but would it really cost them ticket sales? I wonder how many people would want to see it live even more. Like name me one band who released a concert on DVD and suddenly people didn't want see them live.
