I know exactly the fanfic that they're talking about. It's super old, one of the first big trilogies in fanfiction. It's the Psychic Serpent trilogy by Barb. Of course she's named Barb. I didn't read the whole twitter chain but it only took me about 3 screenshots to piece that together.
Just read through the tweets. They're hoping for a conclusion to the series in the alternate timeline. The second and third fanfics were stupid, Harry gets an opportunity to go back in time and stop Voldemort from killing his parents and he takes it. So he wakes back up as a 6th year and lives with his family and siblings in Hogsmeade, but Voldemort is alive and well and pretty much controlling Wizarding Britain. Sound familiar?
So September 1, 2017 marks the official epilogue date "19 years later" part in the Deathly Hallows final chapter. God I feel so fucking old.

Not sure if anyone has played Harry Potter and the Battle of Hogwarts game. It's a cooperative deck building game. My buddy brought it over last night and we had a blast playing it. Up to 4 players. We did through the first 3 books/movies and won fairly easily with my wife as Hermione using lots of spells, my buddy as Neville healing us and me as Harry fucking shit up then we went to 4 and got our asses handed to us. I immediately bought the expansion and looking forward to playing more and then mixing that in
I have it, it gets nigh impossible in games 5-7. It's all about what villains you start with. If you get a bad draw there's nothing you can do.
What he said is right. You can but that'll make it difficult. Even playing with 3 could be difficult, seems it's definitely best with 4
bought the game. been playing the early games with just me and the GF and we are hooked. so much fun. Doing a game night tomorrow with 2 friends and gonna go for games 4+. Such a fun game.
We played again on Monday and beat game 4. When we played it a couple weeks ago game 4 wrecked us and we fucked it up this time but struggled badly on game 5. Game 5 you go to 3 villains instead of 2. We got through a few but were scratching and clawing to get there. Really want to play with a 4th
we beat game 3 last night just the two of us but got real lucky that all the game 1 villains were the last ones in the draw so 2 dark cards per turn didn't give us many issues. Can already see how the villains can really fuck you up if they get the right pairing.
I think it's Barty Crouch Jr that won't allow you to remove the doom counters or whatever they are and then Lucious removes the lightning bolts. They were a rough pairing. We've only gotten Dumbledore once, he's amazing to have in your hand
got dumbledore last night. was smug as fuck about it and had a great hand to use him with and then got shredded by Tom Riddle and dark actions making me discard pretty much my entire hand by the time it was my turn.
Who've you been playing as? Did Harry 2 weeks ago when we played and Ron the other night. Loaded up on cards that gave me lightning bolts My wife loads up on spells with Hermione and my buddy loads up on healing with Neville

We discussed this. We decided not to the first try at 5. I could see next time trying again with 3 and if we fail, adding a phantom 4th person
thought of a way to play via skype. 1 person is "in charge" of the game and everyone else mirrors their board. ex. shaun is in charge of the hogwarts cards and villain cards. he flips them over and everyone else adjusts their board to match. if someone on a screen buys a card, shaun pulls it off the board as normal and the person pulls that card out of their hogwarts deck and puts it in their hand. probably would be a complete cluster fuck but im down to try if anyone else is
About to play game 5 again. My buddy’s dad is playing with us also so we’ll have a 4th. We’re beating this thing tonight
got our asses kicked by game 4 last friday. death eater event cards were brutal. all the draw again cards kept getting shuffled close to each other so there would be turns with 4+ event cards drawn, multiple stuns, and 2+ dark marks on the location
We fucking crushed game 5. Never got off the first location and finished the game with only 3 tokens on the location. Got lucky having Barty Crouch Jr as one of the first villains so blocking the removal didn’t have nearly the impact as it would later in the game (plus had Draco so a weak one out there and could focus on Barty, forget the 3rd villain). Having 4 also gave us more chances to play cards that gave extra coins and one of us got Dumbledore early and he is amazing. We had one run where we all had things where everyone could draw a card and had hands of like 8-9 cards and then just fucked shit up. My buddy had 11!!!! lightning bolts he could play on one turn
Tokens are added to the location, when you hit a set amount you move to the next location. There are cards that allow you to remove a token from the location. Harry’s power allows you to give any player a lightning bolt when a token is removed (though it can only be done once per turn).
right. but once removed, does harry get to give a bolt out every turn or just every time its his turn. does he get to give out 2 bolts once a token is removed from the 2nd location? does his power "reset" once the location is defeated. etc
I don't have it in front of me but you may be overthinking this. It's just a standard if you remove a skull on anyone's turn (pretty sure on this) he can give a person of his choosing a lightning bolt. Just one regardless of which # location. We play it that if a remove a skull card is played and there are no skulls to remove, no lightning is given.
How do you mean? We've always taken it as any card played that removes a token, like if you play Moody or Dobby or whatever the spell is that does it, etc., his power is activated and a bolt is given.
but the card says the first time a token is removed. wouldn't that mean you only give a bolt on the first time and not every other time?
Ah got ya. I guess we've always interpreted that as the first time per turn. Like if you remove two tokens you only give out one bolt. Or if you kill a villain on your turn that removes a token or two it's still just one bolt. I guess our entire run of wins could be built on a lie ):
yea, its confusing. my one complaint with the game is that there isn't specific descriptions of how some cards are supposed to be interpreted.
I take it was each time 1 person plays, it’s a turn. I can see how it would be interpreted as each time you make a full rotation of players playing it would be 1 turn but I don’t see how it could be interpreted that turn means once per location.
It’s cooperative so as long as everybody agrees, it isn’t like people are going to have hard feelings about things.
If you think the way you played it made the game too easy, you can always change your interpretation of the rules for the next time you play.
