Wait there are Harry Potter fans whose only exposure to the franchise is through the movies? What in the actual fucking fuck?
Like I understand there are people who only watched the movies, but how the hell did you become a fan of franchise with just the shitty ass movies being the only source material?
I just finished the books a few days ago. Any of the other prequel/ancillary books worth reading and/or should I watch all the movies?
I'm sure there are a lot of fans who watched the movies first, but they're doing themselves a great disservice if they stop there.
I watched the first movie then read the books available at the time (1-4 if I’m not mistaken). Midnight book releases from then on out.
Watched the first 3 movies as they came out. Started on book 4 in college (summer of 2005) to see what happened next and really got hooked. Subsequently read books 5 and 6 since they were available, then read the series start to finish for the first time in preparation for book 7 in 2007. Have re-read the series multiple times since.
I watched the first four movies then read the whole series over the summer waiting for movie 5. I re-read them every couple years.
I had all the books at the time, I think through four when the first movie came out. Thought the series was going to be lame, wasn't huge into fiction or books really. Then saw the movie around Thanksgiving and read all the books in like a month. Finished 5-7 as they came out and have done multiple re-reads like you.
My complete and utter disdain for Dolores Jane Umbridge has caused my reading of the fifth book to stall.
I read all the books that were out before the first movie was even a thing. OG HP fan (I was like 9 and someone happened to buy me the first one)
Joined after 3 was released. Ordered 4 on Amazon pre-release day delivery and made my dad by me a copy from a bookstore a few days after release because I wasn’t waiting 4 more days to start the Amazon one
Those release days were so fun. Like literally not putting the book down until I was done. Always in the middle of summer vacation. Great times
4 took me some time because I was still young. 5 and 6 I got the day it was released and one shot them. 7 I got at midnight and made it to the end of godrics hollow before passing out from exhaustion at 6 am. Woke up at 11:30 and was done by 6pm.
I started after the 2nd book was released right before the 3rd I think. I was 10 and read the first two in about two days because our family was at Disney World and unless I was physically on a ride, I was reading.
I was 20 when I got into it. I had a friend that was going to see Goblet of Fire and I went with him. I’d never seen or read anything prior. Thought it was cool and my now wife (just a friend at the time) was interested in them so I wanted more. My sister in law told me I could watch the first 2 movies but she wouldn’t let me borrow the movies for anything after that until I borrowed the books and read them so I flew through the books. Got multiple copies of DH at midnight and went to my brother’s house. Gave 1 to my SIL and we both read until we passed out and kept going the next day to finish. Was dating my now wife by this point and gave my copy to her to read. Have now read them countless times
There should be a badge in our handle sections for HP book OGs. DAOG or OOTP. GoodForAnother please advise
The Hogwarts Legacy video game is delayed to 2022. Whatever it takes, just make it not a buggy fucking mess.
Have had the HP movies on in the background all weekend. Wish they’d remake them as a HBO series or something cool like that.
It's always funny and the most obvious karma/likes grab when someone posts to reddit or twitter, "Would anyone watch a HP tv series where they did every scene from the books?" It's like, duh motherfucker?
I’ve thought about rereading since I haven’t since each book was released. A tv series would be so cool to see them really flesh out the world around them.
Here's the best rant from the reddit thread: Now let's talk about my S.P.E.W. literature. Can we talk about my S.P.E.W. literature, please, Harry? I've been dying to talk about the S.P.E.W. literature with you all day, OK? "Dobby and Winky," these names keep coming up over and over again. Every day S.P.E.W. literature is getting sent back to me. Dobby and Winky! Dobby and Winky! I look in the mail, and this whole box is S.P.E.W. literature! So I say to myself, "I gotta find these guys! I gotta go down to the kitchens and put these S.P.E.W. Badges in these elve's goddamn hands! Otherwise, their never going to be freed and this literature is going to keep coming back down here." So I go down to the kitchens and what do I find out, Ron? What do I find out?! There is no Dobby and Winky. These elves do not exist, okay? So I decide, "Oh sugar, buddy, I gotta dig a little deeper." There's no Dobby and Winky? You gotta be kidding me! I got boxes full of S.P.E.W.! All right. So I start marchin' my way down to Dumbledores office and I knock on his door and I say, "Albus! Albus! I gotta talk to you about S.P.E.W." And when I open the door what do I find? There's not a single goddamn desk in that office! There...is...no...Dumbledore in Hogwarts. Boys, half the employees in this school have been made up. Hogwarts is a goddamn ghost town - excluding the actual ghosts that live here.
