Alabama did produce arguably the defining American novel of the 20th century Granted, it largely centered on the pervasive and systemic social, political and economic flaws of the state, but hey, it’s something!
Texas fucking sucks. I broke my lease and moved away at the first opportunity. The only things I miss are Tex Mex and lack of state income tax.
The major difference in Texas and Alabama is that Alabama has some self awareness and doesn't think it's super special. Texas tends to have a lot of people that genuinely think it's the best state in the country.
I lived in that hotel for 8 months. Best hotel in Pecos. Swiss Clock Inn https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/b...stern-swiss-clock-inn/propertyCode.44203.html
I think this is my overall issue, I was born in Mississippi, grew up in Tn, and live in Alabama and I’m acutely aware of all their flaws Texas is convinced their shit don’t stink
And it's public knowledge that Auburn graduate (which contrary to popular belief is located in Alabama and not Georgia) was the real brains behind Apple, and not that overrated hack Steve Jobs.
I disagree somewhat here. I think that the only thing bad about Texas is the Texans. It's otherwise a pretty awesome state, but its primary export is douchebags.
And I’d argue the worst Texans are the ones who move here and become a caricature of Texans. Most people who have been here don’t act like that.
Adding to this, we implemented a dress code at work, no more business attire, we were to wear only Wrangler jeans, boots, and a polo shirt or casual button up. Owner felt it would make us more relatable to Texans when we approached them for land leases.
For sure. And a great anecdote of this dynamic was the 2018 senate race, of course. All you heard about was “California Soros money is flowing in to prop up beto (a like seventh gen Texan) to keep his socialism campaign afloat against Cruz (a Canadian whose slogan was “tough as Texas”). Polling showed Cruz won transplants and beto natives. What I’m saying is propaganda is great.
I've spent a decent amount of time in Dallas and San Antonio and enjoyed myself. Didn't like Tyler but I also don't like rural areas in general. I try Whataburger every time I'm there and every time I'm disappointed. Don't understand the obsession with that. Doing a project in Houston starting in August so pretty excited about that because I haven't been there before. I'd consider living there
I can’t tell if third sentence is serious but if so I have some bad news for you. Houston in August is the suck. As for the fourth statement not if your first visit is in August.
Of course you will live just not happily or comfortably until November. Point stands everywhere in Texas in August. Don’t get me wrong I like Texas and have lived in Houston for many years. August is just not one of the reasons.
I grew up in Texas, moved to Colorado for 12 years, then back to Texas before this election and voted for Beto. Do I count as a transplant or native for this discussion?
I've not spent any extended time in the state but the people that have left Texas for Colorado generally suck. I've met one person from Texas here that doesn't suck. They have this weird thing where a significant bunch of them have moved to Colorado but they won't shut the fuck up about how great Texas is. Yeah, a lot of people move here from somewhere else that isn't as good as Colorado and they recognize that but not people from Texas. Also they're shit drivers. Final Decision: Net Negative I don't like agreeing with Alabama hillbillies ever but they've nailed this.
As someone whose spent 10 years off-and-on living there, I disagree. There are plenty of native Texans who are insufferable about it. There are good things in the state but the two major turnoffs are a) the terrible summer weather and b) the insufferability of many of the state’s residents (native or move-ins).
People forget that in elementary school Texans learn Texas history before US history. They should only get 2 members in the House of Representatives until this is rectified. Or they should go home to Mexico.
Nevada has Vegas and Reno and lots of great outdoors and it doesn’t have Texans. Arizona has a great climate and also mountains and snow. Phoenix is p neat. Florida has all the horrible people of Texas but also a much preferable terrain and climate. Miami is cooler than any Texas city. Georgia has Atlanta which is better than all Texas cities combined.
Spoiler obviously I’m messing around, two of my best friends are from Texas It should truly have to apologize for Ted Cruz though
Cruz is like our former governor Rick perry I can never seem to find anyone who actually voted for him, yet somehow he keeps getting elected
