Documentary on HBO now
Actually appears to be divided up by episodes
Just starting ep1
Excited to start. There’s a great long form article if you google “McDonald’s Monopoly”. Won’t post here since the title has a spoiler.
Saw Mark Wahlberg is involved in the credits too.
I remember reading the article. It was incredible. Excited to see this.
Yeah this is a fascinating story, can’t wait to watch it.
The long form on this was amazing
I believe this is the case that brought down a guy who owned a bunch of bars in Orlando.
I remember the article too, loved it and was all-onboard for the doc.
First ep was p good, the goofy FBI agent is cracking us up.
First episode was great. Looks like it’s 6 episodes over the next 6 weeks. Wish I could just binge it this week rather than drag on but I’ll watch since there’s nothing else on Monday’s.
Isn’t a movie being made about this too? I read the long form. Not sure I need the doc
Still such a good read
That guy is great.
Doug is hilarious but also seems like one of those people that are exhausting to be around after 10 minutes
I was wondering why I had never heard about this, then I saw that the trial started September 10th, 2001.
yeah i remember that being the final twist from the longform article
it was a big story and got a bunch of coverage apparently but it just disappeared immediately for obvious reasons
Finished the first episode, really enjoyed it. I haven’t read the article and don’t know much about the story so it’s all basically new info to me
Had it not been recorded, I would have never believed some beach bum swiped the giant check only to be tackled by Doug.
I was cracking up. That was unreal.
Imagine being that wasted and thinking about stealing a massive fake check off someone.
Don’t click Whammy’s post above fwiw (not blaming you whammy)
The junior agent is great
Solid start. I’m also rewatching The Wire (s2e1) and was amused to see more actual wiretap action in a show about McDonald’s.
S2 was my least favorite season of the wire. I don’t care about Potapsco
I felt the same on my initial watch and mostly still do. Like it more after rewatching though and sorta feel like it helps to tie the entire series together. Thought Sobotka was a great character. His son not so much.
Why didn't you tell me this before?
Here I thought that’s what the spoiler function was for!
Pretty much this. I enjoyed season 2 on the first watch but even more so on rewatch.
Watched the first McMillions last night. Wife and thoroughly enjoyed.
That’s also the date the Rumsfeld said the pentagon couldn’t track $2.3 trillion dollars in transactions. Haven’t heard much about it since
Both this trial and the trial highlighted in the plot for the movie Spotlight all disappeared due to 9/11.
bump because I'm about to start ep2
Not enough Doug frankly. Should be in sales or like Joel olsteins Vice President
Episode 2 was boring
That dude's wife is amazing. The cast on this is so good.
Ep 3 is depressing.
That was a buzz kill.
It would be cool if someone did a show on like the 5 biggest news items going on at the time, how 9/11 impacted those items, and how those stories eventually ended.
like I remember the chaundra levy / Gary condit thing was a huge story, then 9/11 happens and it totally disappears from the news until months later when some other dude confesses to killing her.
Columbo's ex wife seems like she would've been annoying to be around for more than ten minutes.
Matthews makes this documentary. Laugh my ass off every time he's on screen
HBO puts out a short podcast after every episode that's pretty good w additional information. Last week they interviewed the wife. This week they interviewed the woman that 'won' in last night's episode
I feel dumb I instantly forget these peoples names after I watch
The dude ordering coffees at mcdonalds with 10 creamer and 5 sugars was incredible TV.
My goodness I didn’t see that ending coming at all...fuck
My gf and I were both like wtf. Amazing order tho
My wife hates him so much
Team Matt 4eva
If you didn’t laugh your ass off at
him chasing down the guy on the beach who tried to steal the check
then you’re dead inside and have no soul.
I was young at the time but the church of the fuzzy bunny stuff was all over the news for weeks. The location is about 10 mins from where I live now and I pass it on my way to work. It was funny to see the same news anchors we have today from 20 years ago.
Interested to hear what came out of that accident. They implied maybe a mob hit between the two Jerry's hating each other. Also, I dont believe half of what Colombo's ex-wife says in this doc.
devine seriously does this too
