My opinion is that he loves them but is constantly disappointed in them. I think he just wants one of them to finally out-think him and they never do. He probably feels if they can beat him then they can beat anyone. Maybe he has finally given up or this is another test for them to fail.
“Have a problem buddy? Can’t find a vein?”-Hugo Tom on phone “Hang on” then yells “Watch it, fuckhead.” I love this show so much
yeah, the drama is excellent but the show seems stuck in a loop. I guess you could say that Logan has finally lost control, but not to the kids. So I guess that is actually a pretty big change, though I'm sure he still has an ace up his sleeve.
Not entirely sure why Josh is leading them all over the place while they're out hiking in the middle of nowhere.
S3E5 when Tom has to keep taking Logan to the bathroom and then Greg makes the mistake of asking if they’re going to the bathroom
Binged s3 the last two days. Other than Tom winning the day I was completely let down by the finale. Rest of the season kicked ass though.
I took it as the kids thought they had their mother’s support in the bag meaning she would vote with them to block Logan, and Logan made a deal with her in exchange for her vote. Not that they got cut out completely. Kind of tracks the arc of Murdoch selling off a huge chunk to Disney instead of letting his kids take it.
His Cousin Greg in the original is perfection. “I have, uh, low blood sugar. I’m feeling kind of faint. It’s not serious but I could pass out and hit my head and die.”
I dont get the hate for the season finale or that the kids keep getting fucked by Logan. its totally believable that Logan who has spent like 5 decades fucking people over and being “the shark” keeps fucking over his dumb children who are so blinded by “what is rightfully theirs” and the status they want from it and most of all being noticed and loved by their dad. Most good shows repeats themselves because they have a baseline theme and storyline. Sopranos, the Wire etc etc. look at real life how many people cant get out of their own way eventhough they want to change their life for the better. This show would be way worse off if these 3 idiots actually managed to fuck their dad. it would be totally unbelievable. Its the repetition that shows us why they’re so broken. they’ve tried all their lives to get their dad to notice them, they’ve never even come close and thats what they truly care about.
I'm with you there. Nothing else would make sense IMO. I do think Succession is more repetitive than some other shows. There's the tweet about the guy accidentally skipped ahead to S3 from S1 and didn't notice. I would have been hopped off if it was just a "plot" show. It's mainly a comedy where the same basic story repeats like Silicon Valley. If you're not watching at least in part from a comedy angle, show would make no sense
Both can be true. It can be a quality, hilarious, even somewhat believable show… that is also very repetitive. I also loved Silicon Valley but at some point you need to move the ball down the field and progress the plot or you’re gonna lose steam.
It depends if its a story or character driven show, this is not a story driven show, this is about how the abuse, the grabbing for power, the constant scheming etc etc affects the people in the show. the plot is that the kids keep thinking “this time it will be different, we now know this this and that” but it wont. Sure it doesnt work for 10 seasons but it works for 3 and even more. Maybe they do eventually get one up on Logan, but its not gonna be worthwile if we dont see why they are so broken, why its so hard to win and the list goes on. I’m 100% sure this show would feel like shit in season 4 if now the kids are running the show. Sure it would give us some satisfaction at the end of season 3 but season 4 would be worse because of it.
Maybe it could also be called a "workplace" show? Certain shows I get into because it's a work fantasy basically. Mad Men, Parks and Rec, shows that make it seem fun to be at work. This show makes you glad you don't work anywhere near this kind of thing, so same effect in reverse
Yea Mad Men made it seem like it would be fun to be there. But its also a show about people who keep making the same mistakes. Look how many times they restructured the company and didnt get better off doing it, because it was still the same people making the same mistakes over and over again and thats a huge part of why that show was so fucking good.
I guess I don’t really care about the pathology of the Roys deep down. They’re very far from anything I can relate to. I assume people that rich and powerful are assholes, not a lot of new ground broken there
And thats fair although i will say the dad (parents as a whole) dynamic we see in succession is there in all different levels of soceity. its just more flashy and fun when its rich jerks. Youd have a lot more empathy had it been poor people, but thats why its more fun when its people who “has it all” Its way harder to have sympathy for these people and its up to the writing and storytelling to make us feel both sympathetic but also like oh look at this rich asshole. it gives it more layers imo.
I think they nail the little details too. How the houses look, how the PJs look, the tech they use etc. So that’s compelling from a “window into the subculture” standpoint
It’s a 5 season show called “Succesion”, it would be just fine if the kids take over / Logan is not in charge for the last 20-40% of the show. I agree that the striving done by the kids has been the central force of the show. Now the show has exhausted them. Kendall is a broken shell of a human (and IRL), Shiv has been dunced by her lap dog husband, and Rom is a pervert moron with no future. Great, we’ve peeled the layer back. There is no onion left. We know them entirely. Either change the universe they live in or treat them like the discarded pieces to the succession plan they are.
