I wish I had time. I start work again tomorrow and have my last semester of grad school starting next week. Between work, school, and my usual hobbies i never have time to read. Perhaps in May.
I'm trying to read the first book after watching all of the show. I absolutely love how faithful they were to the original story, but it makes it kind of hard to read. I read it at the station and can only get about eight to ten pages at a time before before falling a sleep for the night. Gonna have to make more of an effort to read earlier in the day. I have to finish before season two starts.
as a former showfag, I can't recommend reading the books enough. the show was great, but there's just so much more there.
Once you finish the first one you'll literally go right into clash of kings and not want to put any of the remaining books down (except for maybe crows)
I agree 100%. They are just very tough to get through when you don't really have the time because you just want to avoid everything else and keep reading. Kind of stuck on how quickly I want to start up AFFC with school starting back up and an internship, plus a part time job. Thinking about saving it for the summer since I am finishing up the awesomeness that is ASOS over the winter break right now.
HBO replayed Episode 3 tonight...forgot how amazing this episode was...they could not have done a better job casting Syrio they do a great job of foreshadowing future seasons as well now that I have read the other books, always subtle but there in plain sight (kind of like how martin wrote it in the books)
Not that it would take much more, but the Old Bear commented on Tarley's intelligence on the TV show.
I was saying I based his dumpiness on the way he looked and cowered during training. I wasn't saying there were any similarities beyond that.
There's a season 2 thread we are using instead of reviving this thread which is tainted with bitching and moaning.
Bill Simmons wrote a column today using GOT quotes. Just started watching it a month ago and is already caught up. Good take on Ned dying - The most famous beheading of the show doubled as one of the most shocking TV moments — when Ned Stark, the star of the show and a dead ringer for a medieval Triple H, got beheaded for "treason" (terrible call, by the way — I'm convinced Danny Crawford and Marc Davis were involved) near the end of Season 1. As a society, we've done a superb job with this whole "spoiler alert" thing, because when I watched that moment well after it happened, I had no idea it was coming and nearly passed out. Now I'm prepared for anyone and everyone to die. Effective plot device. He knows nothing.
