Speaking of bad, what happened to Endseeker? After two albums of classic Entombed worship on FDA Rekotz they get signed to Metal Blade Records and immediately turn to shit.
you've always had a weird thing about them. i suspect it's because you can get their music in ways other than some obscure mail order catalog
Dude, it's just not good. The music started out so-so, better than the first song, then I heard some lyrics about tickling. I think it was in the chorus, something about tickling you. I know I can be an elitist cunt sometimes, but I don't think I'm being unfair about this new Ghost album.
i feel like we do this tired dance every time they release new stuff i mean the silly lyrics have been there since pretty much the beginning. literally the first lyric of the first song on their first album is him yelling LUCIFER. there are references to dicks and fucking in like half their songs. the guy dresses like an undead pope and then changes into a tuxedo halfway through their concerts. maybe next we can talk about how Kiss wears too much leather
And yet... this new ep and the last album are significantly worse than their previous material. I love the first few ghost albums. These new ones are just awful by comparison.
But he's just playing stuff he likes. Kiss and AC/DC are in this playlist. Pretty sure Mayhem was like the second song
We can talk Kiss anytime. I have a love/hate relationship with them. Heard my first Kiss album in 1980. First Kiss song I heard and I loved it.
My friend’s band Wrought of Obsidian is about to drop their new album sometime this fall. This new song rips and the album artwork is sweet. I can’t wait to hear the album.
I've been listening to a lot of Yes lately for whatever reason Things kind of go off the rails in the mid/late 70s but Fragile absolutely rips. I'm kind of numb to the skill tricks (blast beats, weird rhythms, mega guitar solos, etc.) because any decent band can do them now but for 1971 their playing is ridiculous. Plus I love Rick Wakeman
One good thing came of it though, it turned a lot of new people onto Camel. You look at the comments in that video and you'll see a lot of people mention Opeth. My favorite Camel track.
Late 80s Senior year we had an astronomy course, most of it was boring math but a few times a year we would go to the planetarium The one class was a star ride and for fun at end of year and we got to pick the music Buddy picked a yes tape We planned it so we took hits and would be peaking while class was on Starship troopers came on and I could see the notes, taste the riffs etc Will always think of that whenever I hear it
sign me up btw recent discussion has driven me to bust out some Still Life, and while other Opeth albums I've enjoyed have fallen off a bit for me, and I haven't really enjoyed their deep end dive into prog, I'm pretty sure as I think about it now that Still Life has been my most played album of the past year, so I'd still consider that a victory Joe
also team Yes - Gates of Delirium, think it's *probably* my favorite prog epic, only because Cassandra Gemini falls a touch flat on the backend after hitting what feels like the climax halfway through, what a climax though
while we're on the subject of ripoffs though, this one will always be dear to me in the weeks leading up to The Mars Volta's "Bedlam in Goliath," somebody leaked a version of this song transitioning into their already released "Wax Simulacra" single, and it fooled many a hardcore fan (including myself but don't tell anyone) I still bump this EP every now and then with no regrets, it fuckin rocks the socks off, shame they never recorded another album
This reminded me of a file that floated around early filesharing platforms as something like "Joe Satriani and Metallica" or "Metallica instrumental" or "Metallica guitar solos" when really it's all from Satriani's album Crystal Planet. I had no idea because I was a teenager and just trying to find any/all Metallica stuff on Limewire or whatever, but it was a pleasant and bizarre surprise when I was making my way through his catalog and listened to the album for the "first" time some years later. Fwiw I still love Crystal Planet. It's like the Dream Theater album I wish they would have made. And I've never played any instrument so whether he has credibility as some kind of elite guitar player has never really mattered to me.
have you listened to either of the tracks they already released? this album is going to be pretty good if they are indicative of the rest of the album. if nothing else his voice sounds great -- and not just great for a prog metal band
There is a lot of stuff going on, like a Van Der Graaf Generator album or something Not sure if it's good or bad at this point
Yeah, in a dumb down 192 bit rate. That might be fine for you kids and your Fisher Price stereos but I require a more refined bit rate.
True story, I have Fisher speakers that have been in the family for nearly 30 years. They'll knock shit off your wall and crack your foundation. At one time they made serious shit.
This Opeth better get better real fucking quick. So far it's been a waste of opiates. There's a chance I don't have enough drugs to enjoy this.
