Mikael Åkerfeldt could (and has) shit all over a plate and some people would go on and on about how "genius" it all is. Opeth now sounds like circus music and (some of) you guys are the clowns. Most overrated band in HISTORY
High Command was released a few days ago. Enjoying it, has a Power Trip feel to it, especially this track. Brought to you by the same record label.
I liked that In Mourning album still not sure what to think about the Opeth album. it's too disjointed for me to really enjoy but the review sites seem to love it so
In Mourning has a bunch of good stuff. I haven’t heard that whole new album but I like that song. Pulling some up just because I want to listen.
Not sure how I feel about the new Opeth. "Heart in Hand" is sick, has probably one of their cooler intros ever imo. "All Things Will Pass" is so weird I like it, especially the little drum break/ vocal transition into the outro riff around the 6 minute mark. Album has one of the best intros and outros of any Opeth song, besides that I'm not sure.
siap: I haven't been listening to much metal lately but I thought this Disillusion album was pretty damn good
Good band and they fit right in on the Prophecy roster. They sometimes lose me on those 10+ minute songs.
long songs, lots of technical wankery, decade+ gap between releases it's like the new Tool album, but not lame edit:
not really metal, but i set a goal of getting through the prog-archives top 100 like 5 years ago and i've gone back to working on that lately. the ranks change based on new user reviews, but i assume overall the stuff in it stays more or less the same. i'm into the 70s rankwise now i've really enjoyed the Gentle Giant albums. it seems like they are somewhat underrated compared to bands like Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, etc the experimentation by those 70s prog bands veers off into silly territory sometimes but their playing is incredible. tbh i'm a lot more impressed by it than the djent or tech death stuff going now
Gentle Giant had a bunch of fans in my high school, plus an art teacher. It never made me interested in checking them out though. I did check out Blue Cheer.
Really good for the most part. I was out of town the past couple weeks visiting the lady and that was great. My super sick friend ended up at my house so that’s an issue. He can’t stay long term and his own dad won’t help him. What a POS. I don’t need to get into all that though. My buddies thrash band I posted a while back is playing with Warbringer and Enforcer tomorrow night in OKC. I might go. I haven’t been to a show in a while. Any new music recs?
Thankfully someone posted a Carcass cover to wash that garbage taste out of my mouth before bed. Worst part is that's the best Voivod has to offer (album & track).
It's pretty good, I can't say anything bad about that (and you know how I love to be negative). Bit more of a Cap Crim style myself but that certainly didn't disappoint.
apparently it has people in it from Year of the Goat and a Swedish band called Night who released an album a couple of years ago that I liked a lot
